Chapter 3

Sophia thought she had this night figured out. Four rich, confident men, probably arrogant, overestimating themselves and she would survive it like any other Friday. She told herself that over and over as she wiped down tables and rearranged glasses. But the truth was, she hadn’t counted on them.

From across the club, Luke’s gaze swept the room like a hawk. He noticed everything: the way Sophia’s hands moved as she polished glasses, Lila’s subtle smirk at a nearby patron, Tess’s quick, darting glances toward the bar. Each woman carried herself with independence and sharp wit—exactly the kind of challenge that made Luke smirk under his perfectly tailored suit.

Duke elbowed Kyle, nodding toward the waitresses. “See them? That’s our fun right there,” he murmured, voice low, full of anticipation.

Kyle smirked, swirling his drink. “The game begins.”

Sophia’s attention was drawn to a movement she couldn’t ignore. Duke, leaning casually against the bar, made it clear he had noticed her. His approach was slow, deliberate, almost playful. He passed close enough that her arm brushed against his coat as he went to the table, and her pulse leapt, though she quickly tried to act unaffected.

“Hey!” she exclaimed, more sharply than she intended. “Watch it!”

Duke’s grin widened, mischievous. “Sorry… clumsy me. Or maybe it’s fate.”

Sophia shook her head, muttering under her breath. “Fate? More like arrogance.” She glanced at Lila and Tess, hoping one of them would act normal so she could follow suit, but the other two were watching with quiet fascination. Tess even smirked, hiding her amusement behind a napkin.

Across the table, Luke had noticed Sophia looking. A small, controlled smile played on his lips. She was cautious, wary, independent… perfect. He took a slow sip of his drink, letting her stare linger just long enough to make her feel it, then looked away, pretending disinterest.

Kyle spotted Lila next. She was refilling a patron’s glass at the bar, unaware of the way he studied her with calculated charm. “Excuse me,” he said as he stepped closer, his voice smooth. “Can I steal a refill from the most charming girl in the room?”

Lila froze, blinking at him. “I I think you might be overestimating yourself,” she replied, half laughing, half offended.

Kyle tilted his head, a playful smile tugging at his lips. “Overestimating? Never. Just being honest.”

Lila rolled her eyes, turning back to the patron she had been serving, though her pulse quickened, and she couldn’t help sneaking glances at him.

Dru noticed Tess watching him from the corner of the bar. He raised an eyebrow and leaned toward Luke, whispering, “That one’s watching me.”

Luke smirked knowingly. “Good. Let her watch. Make her wonder what she’s missing.”

Dru’s lips curved into a faint, rare smile. He wasn’t much for games, but he excelled at subtlety. He leaned against the table, letting his eyes meet Tess’s briefly before looking away. Her cheeks flushed slightly, and she looked down at her tray, pretending to be busy.

Sophia tried to shake off the strange feeling building in her chest. She had faced plenty of arrogant men before, but these… these weren’t ordinary. There was something almost deliberate in the way they moved, a confidence that suggested they knew exactly how to command attention without saying a word.

“What are they doing?” she whispered to Lila, eyes flicking toward the table.

“They’re… annoying,” Lila replied, brushing a hand through her hair. “But in a very interesting way.”

“Interesting?” Tess scoffed, smirking. “I’d call it dangerously attractive. And I hate it.”

Sophia rolled her eyes, trying to focus on the work at hand. “Ignore them. Just focus on the tables. Keep the drinks coming. Don’t get distracted.”

But ignoring them was impossible. Luke had noticed her glance, and when their eyes met again, he held it just long enough for her pulse to spike. She looked away quickly, heart racing, and tried to convince herself it was just nerves.

The boys’ subtle games escalated. Duke, in an unplanned “accident,” brushed past Sophia again, just enough to make her jump slightly. “Sorry, clumsy me… or maybe fate again,” he teased, grinning.

Sophia shook her head, feeling her cheeks warm. “Fate? Or just annoying?”

“Maybe both,” Duke whispered under his breath, returning to his seat, smirking.

Across the table, Luke caught the little exchange and gave a knowing glance to Dru and Kyle. “They’re already noticing. Keep it subtle. Let the tension build.”

Kyle laughed quietly. “Subtle? I prefer breaking the rules.” He leaned toward Lila at the bar, placing a hand gently on hers as he “helped” her refill a glass. She stiffened, a mix of annoyance and curiosity coloring her expression.

The three women huddled for a quick break, whispering in low tones behind the bar.

“I don’t like them,” Sophia muttered, glancing back at the table. “Something about the way they move—it’s like they think they own everything in here.”

Tess leaned closer, grinning. “Maybe they do. But… I admit, it’s interesting to watch. I kind of want to see what happens next.”

Lila rolled her eyes, though the corner of her lips betrayed a smile. “Interesting, sure. But don’t let them mess up our night.”

Sophia crossed her arms, trying to act stern, but her mind was betraying her. Each subtle glance from the men sent a thrill she hated to admit. There was a confidence here that was almost hypnotic.

Luke noticed her from across the room, leaning back and swirling his drink. He allowed just a small smirk, a whisper of challenge in his gaze, before looking away. This was a game, and he intended to win.

Dru caught Tess looking at him again, and with a small nod, subtly tilted his head. She caught it, blinked, and pretended to adjust her tray, though her pulse betrayed her curiosity.

The night’s tension grew thicker. Music thumped, lights pulsed, and the air felt charged with unspoken challenges. Every glance, every smirk, every accidental touch was part of a slow, intricate dance.

Luke stood, walking deliberately toward the bar where Sophia was cleaning. He stopped a few feet away, making sure to respect her space while still commanding her attention.

“Evening,” he said, smooth, teasing. “Busy night?”

Sophia blinked, caught off guard. “Uh… yes. Very.”

He gave her a faint smile, the kind that made her stomach tighten without warning. “I can see that. You’re good at what you do… but I wonder if you always look this focused, or is it just for certain customers?”

Sophia froze. “Excuse me?”

Luke’s grin widened slightly. “Nothing. Just an observation.”

Her cheeks burned as she pretended to busy herself with the glasses. Observation? That felt… dangerous.

From across the room, Dru, Kyle, and Duke were already in motion, teasing, flirting, and watching reactions with precision. Each woman had a target, and each target had no idea the game had begun.

Tess whispered under her breath to Lila, “I think I just got… hit with a full-on smirk. From across the room.”

Lila groaned, shaking her head. “And yet, here we are, watching them like idiots.”

Sophia’s hands shook slightly as she wiped down a glass, hiding her pulse. She didn’t want to admit it, but the four men weren’t just attractive they were electric, commanding, and… somehow, familiar.

Luke noticed the way she glanced up again, briefly catching his eyes. That was enough for him. The night was young, the game had begun, and he could already feel the sparks igniting.

The four men had returned to claim payback but the night was already changing the rules.

Attraction had entered the game. Hearts were about to be tested. And no one girls or boys was walking out the same as they came.
