Lyla stepped closer, her eyes still fixed on the hallway, like she wanted to make sure no one was really there.

I caught her wrist and gently pulled her back until her attention returned to me.

“I’ll come to the party,” I said, redirecting her focus.

The corner of Lyla’s lips lifted into a slow smile. “You’re serious?”

I gave a small nod, slipping one hand into my pocket. “Yeah.”
