I kissed Gavin West!!
The captain of Wolveridge Knights and the Best friend of the man who had just shattered my heart.
The realization hit me like booze the same second our lips parted.
Gavin's jaw tightened beneath my hand. His body went completely rigid.
For one impossible second…. Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Then Gavin slowly lifted one hand. His fingers wrapped around my wrist firmly.
My eyes widened as he pulled my hand away from the front of his jersey and took a single step back.
Those icy blue eyes settled on me coldly.
His jaw ticked unnoticeably as he watched me.
“Don't,” he said evenly. “Ever do that again.”
I glanced around, and heat rushed to my face as the crowd started murmuring behind me.
The humiliation I'd tried to bury just a moment ago clawed its way back to the surface. My grip tightened around the strap of my bag, and I swallowed.
“I'm…” The apology caught in my throat, and I swallowed hard. “I'm sorry.”
He held my gaze for another second before looking past me. I followed his gaze, and they landed on Ana and Ethan.
She still wrapped her hand around his arm, glueing herself to him.
I sucked my teeth and screamed. “Your ever respectful assistant captain cheated on me with my younger sister! I hope it was worth it.” I said, and the hallway erupted into a fresh gasp as though they hadn't already figured it out.
I made my way through the crowd as Ethan shouted my name.
“Yuna…. Please stop,” he stammered, “you're embarrassing yourself.”
I stopped and looked over my shoulder. I smirked and arched my brows.
“It was supposed to be our anniversary today anyway.”
I slung my bag over my shoulder and walked away from the crowd.
No one tried to stop me as I walked out of the hallway.
I lowered myself beside a car at the parking lot, the tears that I had been trying to stop since Gavin West walked into the storage room fell over my cheeks in a mess.
I sniffled as I tried to wipe it away.
I pushed myself off the car and started walking towards the road.
I couldn't sleep in the same house with the same girl who betrayed me. I stared at the Nike Air Force on my feet and sighed, wiping my cheeks and under-eyes with the back of my hand.
I stood at the sidewalk, totally confused about what to do when my phone rang.
I reached for the phone inside my bag and stared at the screen.
I swiped the icon to the right and pressed the phone to my ear.
“Yuna Reed! Why is your face on Wolveridge Buzz?” Emma shouted over the phone. “Where are you?”
“I'm at the roadside in front of the arena,” I murmured into the phone.
“Stay where you are,” she said, her voice suddenly frantic. “I'll come and pick you up.”
Before I could answer, the line went dead. I lowered the phone from my ear and stared blankly at the dark screen.
Wolveridge buzz.
Of course. Nothing goes undercover in this school.
Two years of memories had ended in less than twenty minutes, and somehow the whole school knew about it.
The cool evening breeze swept through the parking lot and to the roadside where I stood, lifting strands of my hair to my face. I wrapped my arms around myself and looked back at the arena.
Players were beginning to leave in small groups; some glanced at me and whispered to themselves, others looked away the moment our eyes met.
They knew.
Every single one of them knew.
I swallowed as my phone vibrated again and the screen lit up with a notification from Wolveridge Buzz.
My thumb hesitated over the notification before I finally tapped on it.
The first thing that filled the screen was a blurry video with my voice in the background. A caption sat boldly above it.
BREAKING: ASSISTANT CAPTAIN ETHAN HOWARD CAUGHT CHEATING WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND'S SISTER.
HEARTBROKEN GIRLFRIEND KISSES CAPTAIN GAVIN WEST BEFORE WALKING AWAY.
My stomach lurched. Over two thousand views in less than five minutes. The school management would have found out by now, and my scholarship would be dangling over the ladder.
Comments kept pouring in, and I quickly threw my phone back inside my bag.
I couldn't read a single word of the comments. I couldn't take it.
Five minutes later, Emma's faded silver Corolla pulled over at the roadside.
She stepped out of the car, hurried to my side, then wrapped her arms around me, slowly tapping my back.
“I'm so sorry, Yuna.” She whispered in my ear.
I buried my face on her shoulder, and fresh tears rushed down my face.
I couldn't understand why I was crying even after mentally telling myself not to.
Emma rubbed slow circles on my back as she consoled me.
“He has been sleeping with Anastasia,” I mumbled, and she nodded her head.
“I saw the video,” she whispered. “Forget about him. He was only good at hockey anyway and not even as good as Gavin West.”
I pulled away from her, and she chuckled. “Yuna, did you really decide to kiss Gavin for revenge? What? Are you in high school?” She laughed.
My cheeks reddened, and I started walking towards the car.
“It was a mistake,” I murmured, and she hummed, her eyes twinkling and her lips spread in a smile.
“I'm not judging.” She winked and walked towards the driver's side of the car.
We entered the car, and I sighed.
“It is shocking that Ana would do that to you.” She said as she started the car and pulled away from the arena.
I stared out of the window and shrugged.
“She told me that he was going to break up with me anyway,” I said. “Those two have been talking about me behind my back.”
I hated the fact that each word that I said tugged at my heart.
They really want to be with each other and continue sleeping around?
Fine!
My phone rang inside my bag, and I glanced at Emma. My heart started pounding fast.
I reached inside my bag and grabb
ended the phone. I froze, my fingers trembling as I looked at the screen.
“Who is it?” Emma questioned.
“Dad.”
5YUNAIt's been two days since I caught my sister with my boyfriend, yet it feels like it was a moment ago.I hadn't set foot into the apartment; instead, I had been staying at Emma's since then. If the occasional shutting of my eyes counted as sleep.Every time I closed them, I saw Ethan and Ana in a promiscuous position, their voices echoing through my head until I was forced to peel my eyes open. And in the far corner, I'd see Gavin West.My lips tingled at the memory I had been struggling to bury.God. Why did I kiss him?I groaned loudly and buried my face in the throw pillow lying on the couch.“Still alive?” Emma's voice floated from the tiny kitchen.“Barely,” I mumbled and sighed. “I'm dying of embarrassment.” She laughed as she walked through the kitchen door. “I made pancakes.”“I'm too depressed to eat…” “ I also bought bacon.” She added before I could finish talking. “You'd better join me before I eat yours.”I dragged my hands down my face and groaned before dragging
4GAVIN “Mr. West.” Professor Igor called just as I reached for the exit.Around me, students slowed down. Some openly stared while others whispered behind cupped hands.I didn't need to guess why.By now, everyone in Wolveridge has already seen the video. The cheating scandal topped by the kiss. Every gossip page on campus had a field day.I ignored them and glanced over my shoulder. “Yes, Professor?”“Can I have a moment with you?”My hand tightened around the strap of my backpack, and I slipped one hand into my pocket and walked back to his desk, while the last few students lingered, pretending to pack their bags just so they could eavesdrop.Nosy bastards.Professor Igor waited until the room had almost emptied before reaching into his briefcase. He placed a single sheet of paper on the desk between us “Last semester's results for this course will be out next week.” He said calmly. “You failed the paper. Again.”I glanced at the grade for barely a second before looking away.“I
3YUNA Dad's name flashed across the screen for the fifth time, and I stared at it until it stopped.Of course, the whole campus knew by now. It was only a matter of time before my family did too.I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and swiped the icon.“Did you not want to pick up the call before, Yuna Reed?” Dad barked over the phone.“I've been busy,” I muttered under my breath. I wasn't ready for their screaming.“Busy embarrassing the family's name.” Mom shrilled, “And what is this news about you and your sister fighting over Ethan?” Fighting?Over Ethan? Really?A humorless laugh escaped my lips.“Who told you that we fought?” I asked calmly, my fingers tightened over the strap of my bag.“Ana called us crying!” Mom snapped. “ She said you slapped her and caused a scene at the arena. Why should you be fighting with your younger sister and even lying on her name? What is wrong with you? You are supposed to protect her!” I swallowed the thick knot that had formed like a rock

YUNAThe tiny velvet box in my hand had cost me two months of tips. It was ridiculous. I couldn't afford it, but Ethan Howard was worth every skipped meal.I smiled as my thumb brushed over the silver watch nestled inside."Ethan Howard," I giggled. "You'd better cry."We were two years old today. Two years of late-night study sessions, surprise roses, stolen kisses after hockey practices, and whispered promises about forever. He'd texted me an hour ago."MEET ME AT THE ARENA, I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU."Knowing him, he'd probably planned something cheesy. But no matter how cheesy it is, it would be made with love, which makes everything better. The Wolveridge Knights ice arena was surprisingly quiet when I arrived. No single soul was around.Ethan Howard was my boyfriend of two years, who happens to love hockey and is the best friend of his team's captain.I walked through the familiar hallway and smiled politely at the receptionist."Ethan is still inside?" I asked, and she nodded.
