Nikolai’s POV

I carried the barely conscious girl out of the shed, and I screamed at the Alpha, asking where the infirmary was located. I barely registered any location since we started the tour because the smell kept messing with me. Noctis won’t stop pacing in my head, and I desperately hope that she will be okay. I hurriedly followed the now stuttering Alpha to the infirmary, and I refused to hand her over to the nurses who rushed to take her from me. As far as I was concerned, all of them here were guilty of maltreating her, and until I found out who she was and how she got in that shed, I wasn’t letting down my guard for anyone.

An elderly doctor soon appeared and led me to an empty room, where I gently placed her on the bed. I looked around the room, it wasn’t the standard of the Capital’s hospital, but this would do. I stood firmly as I watched him examine her, before grabbing some supplies from the cabinet. He rubbed some alcohol on her arm before inserting a cannula, and I watched as he hung multiple liquids up the stand.

“Are you sure you want to stop the pack tour now? It won’t send out the right message, especially to your father.” Beta Williams mindlinked me, and I shot him a glare across the room. I wasn’t going to reply to him or anyone until I’m sure she is okay.

“Your highness, she’s severely dehydrated, and these fluids will help stabilise her, then I can run some more tests. She just needs to rest; she’s going to be fine.” The pack doctor explained in a calm voice, and something made me believe him. Maybe it was the sincerity in his eyes as he spoke to me.

“You heard the doctor, now go continue the tour. If it makes you feel better, I can stay here and watch her. I just don’t want anyone undermining you as an Alpha king.” Beta Williams mindlinked me again, and I tried to argue back, but he was right. I couldn’t just abandon everything for a girl I just met a few minutes ago, and as an Alpha king, my duties come first.

“I will continue the tour, but you mustn’t leave her side for even one minute. Send everything you can find about her to Thorson. I need to know who she is.” I mindlinked him back before slowly walking out of the room, after shooting her one last final glance. Noctis resumed his aggressive pacing in my head; he didn’t like that we were leaving the side of our mate, even if it was for our duty.

I walked out to the infirmary’s hallway, where Alpha Jeremy looked like he was a deer caught in a headlight as soon as he saw me walk out. He and his ladybug were probably whispering about something, and my guts told me it had something to do with my mate. It felt weird calling her that, especially since I never thought the moon goddess gave second chances, especially not to assholes like me.

“Where did we stop on our tours? I guess we can continue now, please lead the way.’ I said calmly, and he looked even more nervous. He nodded hurriedly before leading the entourage away from the infirmary into the packhouses of his pack members. Exactly what I needed to see.

“Your Highness, the girl in the barn was just an omega. I didn’t know how she ended up there. I don’t treat my pack members like that, and I promise to...” He started before I cut him off. I can tell he was guilty from a mile away, and I would rather save us both the time than listen to his shabby lies. Noctis didn’t appreciate how he was speaking of our mate either, from the way he growled in my head, and tried to take control. If I let him take control, Alpha Jeremy will probably be in shreds now.

“I don’t recall asking you about the girl, now, let’s focus on why I’m really here,” I replied coldly, and the walk fell silent again. I suspected he was mindlinking someone, but I didn’t care. Williams was watching over her, and I trust Williams even with my own life.

We arrive at the first packhouse, and Alpha Jeremy introduces her as a widow who lost her son to a rogue attack. He boasted about how they had been taking care of her after her son’s demise, but her eyes tell a different story. They looked hollow and pale, and her skin looked fragile, almost as if she would pass away from starvation soon.

I stepped closer to her and used my royal runes before asking her to tell me the truth. Nobody could resist the royal runes, and soon she was spilling the truth about Alpha Jeremy and how he bandoned them, despite promising heaven and earth after her son’s death. I turned back to look at him with a cold smirk, and he was turning red with embarrassment. These common Alphas never learn that you don’t lie to a royal wolf.

“He’s a liar and a cheat. We should tear him to shreds right now!” Noctis growled in my head, and I simply shut him out. This was my first outing as the Alpha King. I can’t afford to let my emotions control me; I would merely be proving my father right.

I decided to cut the tour short and save us both the embarrassment. I told him I was tired and that I would like to retire to my prepared chambers and rest before dinner. He looked relieved, and I couldn’t help the satisfaction spreading through me; he won’t know what hit him.

As we walked back to the main Alpha Quarters, Noctis started prowling even harder. He kept muttering they were going to hurt her, and I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me he was talking about my mate. I tried to reach Williams through the mindlink, but something was blocking it, and no matter how much I forced it, I couldn’t get through to him. I tried to keep calm, but Noctis was going crazier in my head, and my guts were supporting him every second.

I turned back from the entourage and headed straight to the infirmary, desperately hoping I wasn’t too late or that nothing had happened to her yet. I walked faster, and I could hear the others calling after me, but I had a mission. My Wolf thinks my mate is in danger, and that’s not an intuition I can ignore.

I walked past the reception and headed straight to the private room. I pushed open a door, and I saw a nurse holding up a syringe and attempting to inject it into her fluids.

“Drop it and step back away from her!” I growled loudly, and she shrieked when she saw me, making the syringe drop on the floor, and she looked like she had just seen a ghost.

"Who are you, and who sent you?!" I asked through gritted teeth, as she stepped back hurriedly till her back hit the wall. she was shivering from my alpha presence, but something sinister was in the air too.

  • The Crowned and The Rejected   08 - The Moon Trials

Zara’s POV We arrived at the pack’s courtyard, and I could feel all eyes on me. I felt like the ground should just swallow me. I walked to the vacant seat near him, and that’s when I realized this was the alpha king who was visiting. The cloak that was draped around me belonged to him, and he was the one who saved me from Jeremy. I kept my eyes down, and I bowed a little before sitting. My hands were trembling so badly, and I clasped them together to reduce the trembling. As I took the seat beside him, his scent came rushing back; it enveloped my senses, and it took all my willpower not to reach out and touch him. Did the moon goddess hear my pleas and grant me a second chance mate?He glanced at me briefly, but I was too focused on staring at my hands like they were the most interesting thing in the room. I felt his eyes on me a couple of times, and for the first time, I didn’t feel like the ground should swallow me. A woman walked to the center of the courtyard holding a white s

  • The Crowned and The Rejected   07 - Restraints

Nikolai's POV I paced around the quarters prepared for us, and Beta Williams looked irritated, standing by the door. The rest of the men who came with me stood in the sitting room, waiting to hear from us. I tried to control my anger, goddess knew I did, until I saw that bastard try to kill my mate. “Why didn’t you let me just rip out his stupid heart and feed them to the pigs?” I gritted out, and Beta Williams only sighed. He couldn’t come up with a defense this time for Alpha Jeremy. I knew he was unhinged; I didn’t realize he was that unhinged, crazy enough actually to try to kill her. The woman with the needle still hasn’t told us who sent her with the needle, and judging by her stupid alpha’s actions now, it’s not hard to connect the dots. “I finally got the information you need. The palace just sent a file on her, and I don’t think you’re going to like any of these.” Beta Williams cleared his throat, stretching the tablet towards me, and I took it from him. I skimmed through

  • The Crowned and The Rejected   06 - Heaven-like

Zara’s POV I tried to ignore the ringing in my head, but I couldn't. For the first time in a while, I couldn't feel the hard floor of the basement, and this felt like something softer. Like a proper bed, and I tried to move around, my head was resting on something that felt too luxurious to be used on me. My eyes fluttered open, and I shut them instantly from the intensity of the brightness. I tried to open my eyes slowly this time, as I sat up. I felt weak, but I have felt worse. I looked around, and I was in a room that I was sure was the infirmary VIP room. I tried to recall what had happened and why I was here instead of being locked up in another of Jeremy's dark rooms.I noticed an IV fluid attached to my wrist, and near the table was a covered plate. It looked like it was placed there for me, but I didn’t want to think it was meant for me. What if it was a trap from Jeremy? My memory was still a little fuzzy as I sat up and tried to recall the last thing that happened and how

  • The Crowned and The Rejected   04 - Second Chance Mate?

Nikolai’s POVI sat in the private jet thinking over last night over and over again, hitting every wall in my room till my knuckles bruised or sparing alone all night till my muscles ached, it didn’t help the dark thoughts. Anya really walked in like nothing happened, expecting me to jump into her arms and accept her as my mate.I would never forget the smug look on Nexus’s face when they announced their engagement at dinner, or the way she pretended like I didn’t exist. I cornered her in the kitchen, asking for some answers, and she bluntly told me she belonged to my brother now, and I'd better steer clear of her path. Now that same woman is talking about fighting for us.I let out an awry chuckle before gesturing for the hostess to bring me a whiskey. Williams looked up from the reports he was reading, a disapproving look on his face, but I wasn’t going to bulge.“Are you really going to show up to your first Alpha event drunk out of your mind? You want to give your father something

  • The Crowned and The Rejected   03 - The Fallen Luna

Zara’s POVI felt the water being emptied on my body, and that jolted me awake instantly. I sat up in fear and watched a grinning Karen stare down at me, holding an empty bucket. She looked satisfied with the reaction I gave her.“Since your alarm didn’t wake you up when I needed you, that’s what you get fr sleeping like a damn pig. Get your ass up, and follow me,” She said smugly, and I got up without another word. The cold wind hit my wet skin as soon as we stepped out of the room, and I wrapped my hands around me instinctively. It was night already, and I wondered what they needed me for again. Perhaps another round of torture.“The Alpha king is visiting our pack tomorrow for the regional pack visitation, and Jeremy wants you to prepare the meals ahead of time. Your special delicacies, and he said to mention that his mom would be in attendance too, so you better not embarrass this family.” She announced as she walked ahead of me, and I didn’t bother arguing. It would only cause mo
