The suffocating heat of the grand ballroom pressed against Jesse’s skin, but it was nothing compared to the sudden weight of the hand around his waist. Before he could understand the touch or pull away, Donato pulled him forward. Jesse’s chest hit the Don’s broad body, and in the next second, Donato pressed their lips together.
The kiss began slow at first, their lips moving together in a rhythm that felt almost predatory. But something suddenly snapped. The control disappeared, and the kiss grew hungrier and more driven by a desire neither of them could understand.
Donato’s tongue slipped past his lips, filling Jesse’s mouth with fierce heat that made the noise around them disappear.
Jesse’s fingers clenched in the expensive wool of Donato’s suit as the Don pulled him hard against his body, one hand firm on his hip, the other curling into his hair. His head tilted back beneath Donato’s grip, leaving him helplessly caught in the kiss.
His heart hammered against his ribs. Between the music and the murmurs of the wealthy guests, the wet sound of their mouths meeting seemed unbearably loud.
Jesse had never felt so exposed. Taking away what little dignity he had left.
Every pair of eyes in the ballroom followed their every move.
Especially her. Ginevra.
Jesse felt her icy, murderous glare across the room as they parted, her face twisted with shock and rage.
Donato didn't even look at her. His thumb pressed into Jesse's waist as he pulled him close and kissed him again, brief but lingering enough to make the entire performance look frighteningly real.
For a man who had claimed this marriage was nothing but a cold, bloodless business transaction, he was certainly good at making it look like an act of burning passion.
Donato was still dangerously close, his warm breath brushing Jesse’s swollen lips. Jesse struggled to catch his breath beneath the weight of so many eyes.
He looked down at his trembling left hand. The platinum ring caught the light, gleaming like a polished handcuff.
He still couldn’t believe it.
He was standing beside one of Italy’s most feared men, wearing his ring, carrying his family name, and pretending to be madly in love with him in a room full of people who could probably kill him without blinking.
How had his life changed so quickly?
Just three days ago, his entire existence had been consumed by the paralyzing fear of overdue hospital bills and the daily grind of survival. Now, he was legally and contractually Donato Del Sindacato's husband.
And it had all started with a job he absolutely couldn't afford to lose.

Three Days Earlier
The hotel manager’s door clicked shut behind Jesse. His jaw was clenched so tightly that a sharp ache radiated down into his neck.
The bitter taste of Cain’s release still lingered in his mouth. Jesse swallowed hard, his stomach twisting as he hurried toward the service corridor and wiped his lips until the skin burned red and raw.
He hated what he had just done. He despised everything he had to swallow to survive in this city. But desperation had a cruel way of drowning out a man's pride.
Cain had given him a simple choice weeks ago: keep his well-paying job by accepting the degrading arrangements in the back office, or walk away with nothing and face poverty.
Jesse had stayed. His family literally could not survive without the paycheck. His mother’s escalating medical bills piled higher each week. His younger brother’s university tuition was months overdue, and they are threatening expulsion. To make matters worse, his younger sister sat at home, seven months pregnant and abandoned by the coward responsible.
Jesse couldn't afford the luxury of pride. Pride didn't pay for chemotherapy or buy groceries.
He washed his hands thoroughly in the staff restroom, rinsed his mouth, and returned to work.
By late evening, his feet ached from standing for eight consecutive hours.
Then a frightened cry broke through the chatter in the hotel lobby."Please, sir. You can't do that. Let go of me."
Jesse stopped. He turned his head and saw Nathalie, one of the younger female servers, struggling against a wealthy regular named Mr. Gonzalez. Gonzalez was a notoriously corrupt businessman who frequented the hotel lounge. His thick hands was wrapped tightly around her wrist, pulling her forcefully toward his lap.
"Don't be difficult, tesoro," Gonzalez laughed, as he ignored her clear distress.
Jesse didn't hesitate. He slammed his silver champagne tray down onto a nearby table and stepped right up to Gonzalez
"Sir," Jesse said, his voice was low and firm.
The older man's head snapped toward him, his eyes bloodshot from liquor. "Mind your business, waiter."
"You're holding one of our staff members, sir. Please release her."
"Who the hell are you to tell me what to do?" Gonzalez sneered, his grip tightened.
Jesse didn't bother answering. He stepped closer, grabbed Gonzalez’s wrist and squeeze with, deadly pressure until the man’s grip broke. "Go, Natty," Jesse muttered.
She didn't need to be told twice. She bolted.
Gonzalez's face turned deep purple with anger. "You little pezzo di merda—"
The slap landed before Jesse could even flinch.
Gonzalez’s palm struck with a loud crack that echoed through the high ceiling of the lobby. His head snapped to the side, and a flash of white pain filled his vision.
The entire lobby went silent. The guests stopped drinking and turned to watch the scene.
For one terrifying second, Jesse wanted to hit him. Every instinct in his body screamed at him to drive his fist into the man’s arrogant jaw. His fingers curled, his knuckles turning white. But he knew exactly what violence would cost him. It would mean jail time, a criminal record, destruction of his family's remaining lifeline.
Instead of striking back, Jesse slowly turned his head, and straightened his uniform collar. "That must be the first thing you've actually earned tonight, sir. Are you satisfied now?"
Gonzalez’s face twisted into an ugly, manic mask of rage. "You insolent bastard!"
Gonzalez raised his fist.
This time, Jesse caught his wrist mid-air.
"Sir, please! Put your hands down!" Cain came rushing over.
Jesse immediately released the man's wrist, stepping back. Gonzalez pointed a trembling, angry finger at Jesse’s face. "Fire him! Fire him right now, or I will personally make sure this entire hotel regrets the day it ever hired him!"
Cain didn't even ask for an explanation. He turned his gaze to Jesse, "Mr. Miller, I'm sorry. You're dismissed. Pack your things and leave the premises immediately."
Jesse stared at him. "What? Cain, seriously, after everything—"
"Jesse, please. Just go," Cain interrupted, his voice laced with an anxious finality.
Jesse clenched his fists so hard his short nails bit hard into his palms. "Fine."
He marched to the locker room, ripped off his uniform vest, grabbed his faded backpack, and had barely zipped it shut when Nathalie appeared at the door, tears in her eyes.
"Jesse, I'm so sorry. Because of me, you lost—"
"It's not your fault, Natty," he said softly, cutting her off. He gave her a brief hug. "He was a pig. Someone was going to snap at him eventually."
He slung his bag over his shoulder and headed for the exit corridor. He had barely made it halfway toward the back doors when a supervisor came running.
"Miller! Stop! The manager wants you back in his office right now."
Jesse closed his eyes, inhaling deeply to control the scream building in his throat. Of course he did. Cain probably wanted to twist the knife or demand one last degrading favor.
Jesse retraced his steps and walked back into the office, slamming the door behind him. "What now, Cain?"
The manager raised an eyebrow at the blatant use of his first name, but to Jesse's surprise, he ignored it. The man was visibly trembling, a thin sheen of cold sweat covering his forehead.
"You are to return to your duty post immediately," Cain said.
Jesse blinked, utterly confused. "What are you talking about? You literally just fired me in front of the entire lobby."
"And now I am rescinding it. You're back on the clock."
"Why?" Jesse demanded. "What changed?"
The manager slipped his hands into his trouser pockets. "A very specific VIP just arrived in the private lounge. He happened to witness the entire altercation in the lobby, and he specifically demanded your exclusive service tonight."
Jesse frowned, his brow furrowing. "Who is it?"
Cain's face drained of color. "Tell me the truth, Jesse. How the hell did you manage to get his attention?"
Jesse's confusion only deepened. "Whose attention? I don't know what you're talking about."
The manager looked genuinely surprised by his ignorance. "You really don't know who is sitting in our private room?"
Before Jesse could demand an answer, the sound of siren screamed outside.
They stepped into the lobby just as two police officers marched straight toward Gonzalez who was still loudly complaining to a bartender. Without a single word of explanation, the officers grabbed him, within seconds, the he was dragged away in handcuffs.Jesse’s jaw went completely slack. Nobody touched men like Gonzalez.
Someone infinitely more powerful had clearly intervened.Cain pointed a shaky finger down the hall. "Go. Don't keep him waiting."
Jesse found his way to the kitchen, his heart hammering against his ribs. Taking the food, he navigated the dim, secluded corridor toward the doors of the VIP room with the others.
The manager's terror finally made perfect sense. Two massive men dressed entirely in tailored black suits stood like stone statues outside the entrance. Both were armed, their hands resting casually over the dangerous, concealed bulges beneath their jackets.
The supervisor shoved a fresh silver tray into Jesse's hands. "Once that door opens, you're to lead the service Mr Miller. Whatever you see in there, whatever you hear, you forget it the moment you step out. Do you understand me? "
Jesse swallowed the dry lump in his throat. He balanced the silver tray on his fingertips, took a deep breath to steady his shaking hands, walked past the stares of the armed guards, and pushed open the heavy doors.
Donato Del Sindacato sat entirely alone at the long, polished table.
His personal bodyguards stood silently behind his chair. Donato himself was dressed surprisingly simply—wearing well-fitted grey pants and a crisp, white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The rolled fabric revealed thick, powerful forearms crisscrossed with old, faint scars. Yet, despite the casual attire, absolutely nothing about this man looked ordinary. He looked like an absolute king.
His dark, piercing eyes lifted from the table. They landed directly on Jesse, pinning him to the spot.
Donato completely froze. The air left his lungs in a ragged hitch as Jesse wrapped his fingers around his thigh for leverage. Slipped inside the unzipped trousers, Jesse’s palm found Donato's heavy weight. It felt warm against his hand. Locking stares with the Don, he used the tip of his tongue to lick the dark red head of his length.Donato shuddered vigorously, his head falling back with a sharp grunt. Then, Jesse rolled his tongue around the tip, opened his mouth, and took him all the way in.Donato completely lost it. “Ugh...” The broken sound escaped him before he could stop it.Ginevra could not believe her eyes, her mouth dropping agape in horror.Donato's composure shattered. A low groan escaped him as his hands instinctively gripped Jesse's dark hair, pulling him deeper as his body hardened.“Fuck,” he cursed under his breath, hating how strongly his body reacted to Jesse.Ginevra stumbled backward, her face twisting with shock and humiliation. Seeing the feared Don so affect
Donato gestured toward the chair, taking a seat on the desk.Ginevra ignored the gesture and remained standing. She raised both hands in frustration. "What is the meaning of this, Donato?"Donato arched his brows. "Make it clear."She scrunched her face. "Don't play dumb on me. You think putting a ring on some stranger changes what our families agreed to?"Donato didn't answer. He simply watched her. However, his silence was heavy, and she felt it—the shift in atmosphere. She hated the way he looked at her now, like she was a problem already solved.Something cold coiled in her chest. She had shared his bed. She had been patient despite how cruel he could be. Because she knew what was coming: the power, the fear that would follow her name once she stood at his side. And now? Now he sat there, unmoved, as if she meant nothing. The papers on his desk were perfectly aligned. His sleeves were rolled to his forearms. He looked like a man who had already moved on to the next problem.Donato
“My husband.”The entire room fell silent Jesse could almost hear his own heartbeat. The head of the Cascio family glared at Donato, his expression hardening into stone. “Your husband?”“Yes.” Donato placed a possessive hand against the small of Jesse’s back, returning the lethal stare. “Meet Jesse Miller.”The silence shattered into utter chaos. Shocked, angry voices rose from every corner of the ballroom.“You made a decision like this without consulting the Commission?!” an elder Capo from the Sindacato clan raged.Donato stood perfectly still, letting the noise build around him, as though the chaos meant absolutely nothing. Then he spoke. “Distinguished guests.”His voice boomed through the grand hall, cutting through the uproar with terrifying authority. The voices gradually died down.“I am canceling the political alliance with the Cascio family,” Donato announced flatly. “There will be no marriage between Ginevra Cascio and me.”A collective, horrified gasp echoed beneath the h
Donato stayed true to his word.It came as a shock to Jesse when Alessandra called to tell him their mother had been moved from the regular ward to a VIP room. The treatment had changed overnight. The nurses were suddenly attentive, the doctors appeared the moment they were called, and the staff treated their family with an unsettling level of respect.Even their outstanding hospital debts had been cleared. All of them.Jesse couldn’t believe it until he saw it. A single thought repeated in his mind as he left the hospital: Donato really is something. The man had done exactly what he promised. Now, it was Jesse's turn to pay the price.Jesse sat in the private office, waiting. His palms were slick with sweat. His legs bounced restlessly beneath the table. He wasn't nervous about the money anymore; he was terrified of the deal he was about to sign with the man who ruled the city. The door clicked open. Donato walked in like a predator that had finally cornered its prey.“Mr. Miller.”
Jesse went utterly still beneath the weight behind Donato's words. His throat went completely dry, and with one hard, painful swallow, he wet his cracked lips and blurted the only defense he had left."No." His gaze locked fiercely onto Donato, refusing to look away first.Donato slowly lifted a dark brow, amusement flickering across his face. "Say that again.""You heard me perfectly well, Mr. Sindacato." Jesse frowned, trying to comprehend the absurdity of the man's decision. "And why do you even need a husband? We both know you are supposed to end up with the Cascio heiress: Miss Ginevra."Donato folded his arms across his broad chest."It's no news about your engagement with Miss Ginevra," Jesse continued, growing bolder despite his rising panic. "Everyone in Italy knows that the Cascio clan and the Del Sindacato are not bound by a mere business agreement, but by a sacred blood oath. The marriage, I believe, is a political alliance." He took a step back. "I have a family to wa
Jesse felt the air completely leave his lungs under the suffocating, magnetic weight of that stare. He forced his legs to move, walking over to the table with practiced professionalism, and set the plate down."Your dinner, sir."Donato didn't even glance down at the expensive food. He kept his eyes locked on Jesse’s face. "Everyone leave the room."The guards behind him exited the space immediately. Jesse felt a wave of relief wash over him, he turned to follow them out."Everyone except you."Jesse froze, his back stiffening."Jesse."His name sounded incredibly heavy, dangerous, and strange coming from the Don's mouth. It was spoken with a light, rhythmic Italian accent made his voice unexpectedly sexy—clear and laced with effortless authority.Jesse slowly turned back around, his eyes widened in shock. How the hell does he know my name? Donato gestured toward the empty leather chair directly opposite him. "Sit.""I'm deeply sorry, sir, but I am still technically on duty and wo
