Pain was the first sensation that clawed its way back into my consciousness.

It wasn’t a dull, throbbing ache; it was a sharp, searing agony that tore through every fiber of my being, as if my bones had been ground into dust and scattered across a wasteland.

Every breath I drew felt like inhaling jagged glass, burning my throat and filling my lungs with the suffocating stench of rotting flesh, damp earth, and dried blood. I forced my eyelids to flicker open, though the pitch-black darkness of the bottomless chasm offered no relief.

There was no light down here, only the oppressive weight of the world pressing down from above. My limbs felt heavy, unresponsive, completely shattered from the lethal descent. I tried to move my fingers, and a fresh wave of agony shot up my arm, making my teeth grind together until the metallic taste of blood flooded my mouth.

So this is what it feels like to die, I thought, a bitter, humorless laugh echoing hollowly in the dark cavern of my mind. They thought they had disposed of me. Dorian Thorn, with his smug, arrogant smirk and his pure elemental radiance, had cast me aside like broken garbage.

My own family, the esteemed Vane clan, had watched in cold silence, content to wipe away a stain from their proud bloodline. They threw me into the Abyss of Beasts to ensure I would never return, to ensure that the crippled boy with the dead core would vanish into history, forgotten and unmourned.

But they didn't know the truth. None of them did.

Before I could dwell any further on the betrayal, a low, guttural growl vibrated through the stone floor beneath me. The sound sent a jolt of primal adrenaline straight through my paralyzed veins.

It wasn't the wind howling through the rocky crags; it was something alive, something hungry, and it was drawing closer with terrifying speed. A pair of glowing, crimson eyes pierced through the absolute darkness just a few yards away. It was a beast of the abyss—a massive, predatory shadow with jagged scales and massive claws dripping with thick, foul saliva.

Drawn by the rich, metallic scent of my fresh blood, it had come to finish what the fall had started. It didn't hesitate. With a ferocious screech that shook the loose pebbles from the cavern roof, the beast lunged forward, its razor-sharp jaws parting wide to snap my head clean off.

Panic should have paralyzed me. Despair should have kept me pinned to the cold rock. But as those lethal jaws rushed toward my face, a completely different emotion took over. It wasn't fear. It was rage—an unyielding, incandescent fury that burned hotter than any fire I had ever imagined.

I refused to die here. I refused to let those bastards win. As the beast’s claws descended upon me, a violent surge of heat erupted from deep within my chest. It didn't come from my magic, nor did it come from the crippled core they had mocked for years.

It surged straight from the marrow of my bones, a wild, untamed torrent of scorching energy that slammed into my veins like molten iron. My eyes snapped wide open, flashing with a brilliant, terrifying crimson-gold light that cut through the dark chasm like a blade. With a roar torn straight from my throat, I thrust my hand forward, defying the agonizing pain in my broken arm.

The heat erupted from my palm in a blinding shockwave of pure, crimson flame. There was no time for spells or formal incantations; this was pure, unadulterated instinct. The roaring wall of fire slammed directly into the charging beast. The creature didn't even have time to shriek.

The intense heat vaporized its claws in an instant, and before it could hit the ground, the ferocious wave of flame tore through its thick hide, incinerating its flesh and shattering its bones into fine ash. In less than a second, the massive predator was completely erased, leaving behind only a faint wisp of smoke hanging heavily in the cold air.

I lowered my trembling hand, staring at my fingers in disbelief. The pain in my body was suddenly overshadowed by an overwhelming sense of raw power—a power so ancient and overwhelming that it felt as though it belonged to a god, yet it pulsed naturally through my own blood.

Struggling to my feet, my legs shook violently beneath me, but I refused to fall back down. I began to drag my battered body forward across the rocky floor, guided by a strange, magnetic pull echoing from the deeper recesses of the abyss.

Every step was sheer torture, but the fire inside my chest kept me moving, repairing the torn muscles and knitting my broken bones back together with terrifying speed. After what felt like hours of agonizing travel, I reached the far end of the cavern. There, standing like a silent sentinel amidst the sea of old bones, was a colossal, ancient boulder covered in intricate, glowing runes that pulsed with a dark, blood-red light.

As I approached the monolith, the heat in my chest flared violently, practically begging me to reach out. Without a second thought, I raised my palm and pressed it flat against the ice-cold surface of the stone.

Boom!

A shockwave of dark energy exploded outward, throwing me back a few paces. But instead of hurting me, the energy flooded into my mind, unlocking memories and realizations that had been sealed away since birth. A sudden, earth-shattering revelation struck me like a physical blow: My cultivation core hadn't been naturally shattered or dead. It had been sealed!

A complex, malicious seal had been carved deep into my soul when I was an infant, choking off my true potential, suppressing my bloodline, and turning me into a laughingstock for the entire nobility. They hadn't just crippled me; they had deliberately locked away a monster, terrified of what I might become.

And now, fueled by my hatred and the blood of the abyss, that seal was cracking.

A turbulent storm of black and crimson fire erupted around my body, swirling into a terrifying vortex that illuminated the vast expanse of the dark chasm. The pain vanished, replaced by an intoxicating surge of absolute strength. My physique transformed, hardening and refining until every inch of my body radiated a dangerous, indestructible aura.

I lifted my head, staring up toward the distant, faint circle of light far above, where the cruel world of House Vane and Dorian Thorn awaited in their blissful ignorance. A dark, chilling smile spread across my face as I clenched my fists, letting the roaring dragon flames dance playfully across my fingertips.

"Enjoy your peace while you can," I whispered into the empty darkness of the abyss, my voice echoing like a death knell. "When I return, I won't just destroy your houses... I will turn your entire world to ash."

The night sky over the Vane estate was choked with thick, heavy clouds, casting a bruised shadow across the towering stone ramparts. My fingers gripped the cold, damp stone of the outer perimeter wall with effortless ease. The physical condensation stage achieved in the ancestral vault had permanently altered my biology; my muscles were dense coils of unyielding power, and my reflexes operated on a plane far beyond normal human limitations. With a silent, fluid motion, I hauled myself over the top of the fortification wall, slipping past the patrol routes like a ghost in the dark. The exclusive contract binding my destiny had been sealed in blood and resolve; there was no turning back, and no mercy left in my heart. Tonight, House Vane would learn the true cost of casting a soul into the abyss.I moved swiftly through the sprawling outer gardens, keeping close to the dense hedgerows and shadowy archways until I reached the grand inner courtyard. Looming ahead was the magnificent

The final ledge of the vertical wall loomed above me, jagged and dark against the bruised twilight sky. My fingers, hardened by the grueling climb and fueled by the dense, unyielding vitality of my newly unlocked core, locked onto the cold rock one last time. With a final surge of physical power, I hauled my body over the crest and pulled myself completely out of the suffocating, bottomless chasm.I lay flat on the hard, familiar earth of the surface world for a brief moment, letting my lungs fill with the crisp, unfiltered air. My body hummed with raw energy, completely recovered from the brutal abuse of the ascent."Did you check the perimeter again, Kael?" a bored, gravelly voice echoed through the crags just a few dozen paces ahead. "I told you twice already, Jaro," a second voice replied, laced with lazy arrogance. "Nobody survives the Abyss of Beasts. Not a crippled whelp with a dead core. The young master Dorian made sure of that when he had him tossed over. His body has

The ancient vault faded into the dark shadows beneath us, a silent monument left behind by a forgotten age. With the condensed ancestral energy fully absorbed and locked deep within my core, my entire physical shell hummed with a dense, unyielding vitality. My muscles were tightly coiled springs of pure power, and every breath I drew felt like inhaling liquid fire. The Guardian stood at the edge of the lower platform, bowing its massive head in absolute reverence as I prepared to leave the sanctuary."The vertical wall ahead is untamed and lethal, master," the guardian rumbled, its voice echoing off the stone walls. "Countless mortals and beasts have perished trying to scale its height. Let the dragon blood guide your grip." I gave a curt nod, turning my back on the safety of the vault. It was time to leave the abyss behind. It was time to return to the world above and collect the debt that House Vane and Dorian Thorn owed me.Stepping up to the sheer, vertiginous cliff face t

  • The Dragon's Vengeance   Chapter 3: The Guardian of the Ancestral Vault

The air at the bottom of the abyss grew heavier with every step I took, thick with the scent of ancient dust and scorched earth. My body no longer felt like a broken collection of shattered bones. The dark crimson flames pulsing beneath my skin had woven my flesh back together, forging my muscles into something harder, denser, and infinitely more resilient. The seal that had suppressed me since birth was broken, and in its place, a raw, burning hunger for power took root.I pressed deeper into the unexplored crevices of the chasm, guided by an invisible, instinctual pull that vibrated through my very marrow. The jagged rock walls slowly gave way to smoother, hand-carved tunnels illuminated by a faint, eerie violet glow emanating from rare crystals embedded in the stone. This was no ordinary cavern formed by natural erosion. Someone—or something—had built this place long before the Vane clan or any of the arrogant noble houses laid claim to the upper realms. After walking for wha

The fire devoured the stone, swallowing the royal banners of House Thorn amidst absolute chaos. I stood upon the scorched rubble of the Vane estate, my fingers clamped tightly around the neck of Dorian Thorn—a man who once strutted through the world with unbearable arrogance. Lifting Dorian high into the air as dark blood dripped from my fingertips, my eyes burned with a terrifying, primal amber glow. When I spoke, my voice hissed like a deadly viper cutting through the roaring flames: "You left me to rot in the abyss... and now, the time has come for your entire world to burn." Fwoosh.Suddenly, the nightmarish vision of the future dissolved into ash. My body violently convulsed as my eyes snapped open to the harsh, unforgiving light of the present. I was slammed hard against the freezing marble floor of the grand banquet hall of the Vane clan. A heavy boot dug ruthlessly into my ribs, planted there by one of the elite estate guards, while mocking laughter and cruel jeers
