Present day-

LYRICS POV

It’s been 9 years since my parents died, Or at least since dad died. I buried him in the back yard of the safe house. Mom never came back and when I went back to the field to try and find her body to bury with dads I couldn’t find any trace of her. I’ve been raising my siblings this whole time. I’m mom, dad, big sister, trainer, teacher, and chef. Lucky me right? Honestly though I’d do it all over again as long as my siblings are safe. Now let’s get into it.

“ Thing 1 & 2, y’all have 2 MINUTES to bring y’all’s sleepy asses down to this kitchen and eat breakfast before today’s 5 mile run turns in 10 with a extra 2 hours of training” I yell from the bottom of the stairs. Not even 30 seconds later I hear Nadia’s door creek open and he light footsteps coming downstairs.

“Good morning princess” I say to her and and I finish putting out the breakfast spread Of eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast, avocado toast and fresh fruit from the garden. We eat a lot since we are witches and using our magic can be draining. Yes we can pull magic from the earth but it’s still draining so we have to keep our stamina up by eating well, resting, and lots of training.

“Good morning Queen breakfast looks amazing per usual” Nadia says planting a kiss on my cheek before sitting down to eat.

“Don’t I know it” I respond “LUCAAAA” I scream “30 fucking seconds left before I electrocute your ass and you know I won’t go easy either” as soon as I finish saying the words Luca appears in the kitchen causing Nadia to bust out laughing.

“Aww dang I wanted to see her fry you again” she says between laughter.

“Oh shut up” Luca says with a eye roll and a slight smile on his face. “ good morning Princess, Good morning Queen” he says to us before planting a kiss on both of our cheeks.

“Good morning Prince” me and Nadia say in unison and he sits down and piles food on his plate before digging in. I sit down at the head of the table and start to eat once the twins have their first plate.

“Today you two are going on your run alone. Can y’all do that?” I say to the twins with a raised eyebrow. They both stop with mouths full of food and stare at me for a moment before they both nod their head up and down excitedly.

“I need to hear y’all say it” I say sternly

“Yes Lyric we can handle it we will be safe and keep a eye on our surroundings” the say in unison with huge smiles on their faces.

“Alright well finish up eating and get dressed so y’all can head out. Y’all go to the cliff and back. No detours and if y’all see anybody human or not you teleport straight home. Don’t run home TELEPORT. Understood?”

“Yes ma’am” they say before finishing their food and running upstairs to get dressed while I start cleaning the kitchen. 10 minutes later the twins come barreling downstairs dressed for their run.

“Queen we are heading out” Luca yells from the doorway.

“Okay my loves be safe and you know what to do if trouble comes your way” I yell as they head out. I walk to the front door and watch them until they make it to the shield and pass through it. Once they are gone, I head back to the kitchen, turn the radio on and lose myself in cleaning the house. The cliff we run to is 2.5 miles from our safe house on the outskirts of Seattle Washington. We’ve been here for the past nine years and now that the twins are about to be 12 I feel like they are old enough to start doing things on their own plus the fact that they have been begging for almost 2 years to run on their own. I was just to terrified to let them go just yet.

It’s been about a hour since the twins left and I know they shoulda be at the cliff soon and then headed back. I was heading upstairs when I heard scratching at the front door causing me to laugh

“squiggles my room window is open , I’m already headed upstairs” I call out .

I walk into the master bedroom and there she is sitting on my window sill looking cute as ever. Oh yea I can talk to animals. It didn’t start until 2 years after my parents died the day I turned 13. I was outside in the yard with the twins playing and celebrating my birthday when I heard a small voice calling for help. I tried to ignore it thinking it was a trick until I heard the voice again except I also saw movement on at the opposite side of the shield from us. I did a double take and that’s when I saw a baby deer limping towards us. “You feel safe , Please help” was the last thing it said before collapsing. I couldn’t stop my feet from moving me straight to the little deer and I immediately noticed its leg broken and lots of scars and blood. I started using my healing powers to close up the wounds and the fix its leg. I got the kids inside along with the baby deer and ended up nursing it back to health. After that I’ve made lots of animal friends over the years including Squiggles the squirrel. She’s been my bestie for a year now after I rescued her. The only animal I won’t help is wolves since they killed my parents.

“I didn’t feel like climbing Big Witch” she says making me laugh because she only calls me that when I irritate her. “I love you too” I say back

I start cleaning my room while she sunbathes in my window. “ if you’re hungry there’s some fresh fruit and leftover from breakfast downstairs. Take whatever you want for you and your littles” I tell her “oh great that means I don’t have to take from Nadia’s garden” she responds causing me to bust out laughing.

“I’m not telling her you said that” I said because I’m not trying to hear Nadia complain again. I finish up cleaning my room and the upstairs bathroom before I head downstairs to the porch with a book and a cup of coffee to enjoy my last 30 minutes or so of free time before the kids return. I had just got settled with Squiggles on my shoulder when Luca and Nadia materialize right in front of me causing me to drop my book

“Holy shit y’all scared me” I yelled before noticing the pale faces of the twins. “Hey what’s wrong, why do y’all look terrified” I asked

“We saw wolves” Luca said

“Not just saw Luca we saved her life” Nadia says

“YOU WHAT???” I screamed. I pulled them both inside and sat them on the couch. “Start from the moment y’all left”
