Elena POV

I watched Bernard from across my penthouse living room as he pretended to read a business magazine, and I could tell something had changed about him over the past few weeks. There was a restlessness in his posture, a distraction in his eyes, and a subtle defiance in the way he responded to my instructions that had not been there before.

For six months, Bernard had been the perfect kept man. Obedient, grateful, and completely focused on pleasing me. He had accepted his role as my personal property without complaint, understanding that his comfort and security depended entirely on my continued satisfaction with his performance.

But lately, he had been different. More secretive, more evasive, and less attentive to my needs.

"Bernard," I said, setting down my wine glass, "come sit with me."

He looked up from his magazine with the expression of someone whose thoughts had been elsewhere. "Of course, Elena."

He sat beside me on the sofa, but I could feel the tension in his body. He

Vanya POVI threw myself into work with an intensity that bordered on obsession in the weeks following my discovery about Richmond's lies. Every morning, I arrived at the Goddess Jewelry workshop before any of my employees, and every evening, I stayed long after they had gone home. Work was the only thing that kept my mind from spiraling into endless questions about what had been real in my relationship and what had been deception."Ms. Reed, the contracts from the New York boutiques arrived this morning," Madison said, placing a stack of documents on my desk. "They want to carry twelve of our signature pieces in their Fifth Avenue location.""That is excellent news," I said, though I felt none of the excitement I should have felt about expanding into Manhattan. Everything felt muted and distant since Sunday's disaster at Chez Laurent."Also, the Los Angeles distributor wants to increase their order by forty percent for the spring collection," Madison continued. "And we received an in

Bernard POVI stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror of Elena's penthouse at five thirty in the morning, and the man looking back at me was someone I barely recognized. Dark circles under my eyes from another sleepless night, stubble because Elena had criticized my appearance when I took too long shaving yesterday, and the hollow look of someone whose soul had been completely stripped away. This was not the life I had imagined when I left Tracy for Elena six months ago. I had thought I was trading up from a broke, desperate wife to a wealthy, sophisticated woman who would help me reclaim my former status and success.Instead, I had become a kept man who worked all day under my ex-wife's authority and spent all night serving Elena's every whim and demand. At the office, Vanya treated me like the failure I had become. She gave me the worst assignments, the most difficult clients, and the longest hours. She watched my every move, waiting for me to make a mistake that would give h

Marcus POVI was reviewing case files in my office Monday morning when my assistant knocked on my door with an urgent expression."Mr. Thompson, Vanya Reed is here to see you," she said. "She seems very upset and says she needs to talk to someone immediately."I set aside my work and told her to send Vanya in right away. When she walked through my door, I could see that something terrible had happened. Her eyes were red from crying, her usual confident posture was gone, and she looked like she had not slept all night."Vanya, what is wrong?" I asked, standing up to guide her to the chair across from my desk."Marcus, I need a friend right now," she said, her voice breaking. "I found out yesterday that Richmond has been lying to me about everything.""What do you mean lying about everything?"She told me the whole story about the lunch at Chez Laurent, about discovering that Richmond was actually Nina's billionaire son, about realizing that every conversation they had shared about mone

Nina POVI sat alone at the corner table of Chez Laurent, staring at the untouched wine glasses and the beautiful flower arrangement I had so carefully selected, trying to understand what had just happened. The lunch I had planned as a perfect introduction between two wonderful people had turned into a disaster that left both of them upset and angry. The other diners were still glancing in my direction, probably wondering why a well-dressed woman was sitting by herself at a table set for three, looking like she might start crying at any moment."Mrs. Fernandez, is everything alright?" our server asked gently, approaching the table with concern. "Would you like me to box up the meals that were ordered?""No, thank you," I said quietly. "I think we are finished here."But I could not bring myself to leave yet. I needed to process what I had witnessed between Richmond and Vanya, and I needed to understand my role in whatever had gone wrong. When I had called Richmond yesterday to tell h

  • The Goddess of Divorce Made Me His Boss    Chapter 98

Vanya POVI drove home from Chez Laurent in a daze, my hands shaking so badly I had to pull over twice to collect myself. The image of Richmond walking into that restaurant like he owned the place kept replaying in my mind, and each time it felt like a fresh betrayal. When I finally made it to my house, I went straight to my bedroom and collapsed on my bed, still wearing the black dress I had chosen so carefully for what I thought would be an innocent lunch with a stranger. But it had not been a stranger. It had been the man I trusted more than anyone else in the world, revealing himself to be someone completely different from who I thought he was.I stared at the ceiling and tried to make sense of what had just happened. Richmond was not a humble restaurant worker struggling to make ends meet. He was Richmond Fernandez, owner of Fernandez Real Estate, one of the wealthiest men in Sacramento.Every conversation we had shared about money and success had been built on lies. Every time I
