Lexie's POV
"Alexandra Thompson, you have been granted your freedom." Your appeal has been approved. "From this day forward, you are no longer confined to this cell. You are now a free woman," the warden announced, his voice firm but laced with empathy.
All I could do was stare at the middle-aged man in disbelief, my mind racing with his words.
“What did you just say, Mr Felix?” I asked in shock. I had to make sure I heard him clearly.
“Congratulations, Miss Lexi. Try as much as possible to stay out of trouble, so you don't come back here. You could lose your senses. Stay safe,” He flashed a smile at me before walking away.
Goodness! This was finally happening! I've finally been released from this hell hole after three painful years.
After what felt like forever, I stood up from the bench as I made my way out of the cold, grey prison walls, feeling the warm sun on my skin for the first time in three years.
I took a deep breath, to calm my frazzled nerves. I can't believe what the Warden said a while ago.
Freedom! I was free once again!
It was a word I had almost forgotten. It was something I had thought I would never experience again. I had thought that I'd rot away in that cold prison.
But here I was, standing outside the prison gates, with a chance to start anew, with a chance to get back at my enemies for everything they have done to me and my mother and reclaim her company.
I closed my eyes and my mother's smile appeared in my head. A lump formed in my throat as I remembered her warm hugs and soft voice.
Tears pricked at the back of my eyes as I whispered. “I’ll clear my name and I'll avenge your death, I promise you, mother,”
I'm not surprised that none of my family members were here to support me on my first day of freedom. Well, what was I expecting?
They wouldn't want to be around a murderer. I thought as I made my way back to my family's residence, unsure of what to expect.
Throughout my three years in prison, they never visited me or showed any concern for my well-being. The only person who cared about me was my mother and now she was late.
I mean why would I kill my mother? Why would I kill the only woman that had shown me nothing but love, like I was the one that exists?
The memory of the trail still burned deep within me. I recalled the feeling of helplessness as I stood before the judge, my words falling on deaf ears.
‘Guilty of the crime charged' He'd declared, without giving me a chance to defend myself. It was Claudia and my father's doing. I needed no soothsayer to tell me that.
My stepmother was an influential personnel in our country.
Even my own father testified against me, saying I was responsible for his wife's death.
I'll get back at all of them and that's a promise.
As I got closer to the house, I could hear the sound of laughter and music coming from inside and I creased my brows in confusion, wondering what was going on. Were they trying to welcome me back home?
'You wish!’ I rolled my eyes.
I swung the door open and was greeted by the sounds of laughter and music. The space buzzed with chatter, the clattering of glasses, and the pounding of the music.
I saw a big banner that read “Rest in peace, bitch .” in big bold letters. The room was decorated with balloons and ribbons and the tables were filled with food and drinks.
Rest in peace? Did someone die? But if someone dies, they shouldn't be celebrating. They should be mourning for heaven's sake. There weren't any strangers here. It was just people from Claudia's family.
Claudia saw me standing there and immediately her expression changed from joy to shock, her hands flying to her mouth.
“What the hell?” she gasped and I creased my brows in confusion, as I wondered what was going on.
“How is this possible?” She asked again and I scoffed. “What are you talking about, Claudia?”
Claudia's voice dripped with venom. “I paid to have you taken care of, Lexie, but those fools messed up,”
Her eyes blazed with her hatred for me. So raw! So deep! Just like the one she has for my mother, who was once her best friend. “You are a murderer, Lexie. You deserve to rot in prison,”
“You what?” I asked again.
“Are you deaf? I paid those wardens to kill you and here you are standing in front of me,” she hissed in annoyance. “Those fools. They must have sent the wrong body,” she muttered under her breath, but I heard her clearly.
My eyes expanded in surprise as Claudia's words lingered in the atmosphere. The space started to whirl around me and I sensed as if I'd been hit in the stomach. At that very moment, the reality struck me hard: Claudia had financed my assassination.
Wait a minute! If she had paid those wardens to kill me, who released me? My mind was still reeling with shock when my boyfriend, Ethan, rushed forward.
“Ethan?” I called and he turned around to meet my gaze. His eyes met mine and for a moment, I saw a flicker of guilt. But it was quickly replaced by shock. “Lexie, I…I thought you were dead,” he stuttered.
“You are alive?” He asked again, stunned and I shook my head in disbelief.
“All of you wanted me dead, huh? You wanted me dead so you could have my mother's company forever, huh?”
“I hate all of you and I—” I stopped talking when a little girl of about two years rushed towards Ethan's direction, yelling ‘daddy, daddy’.
My heart sank as I realized that the little girl looks uncannily like him. She has the same eyes as him and I needed no soothsayer to tell me that she was his child, but I just didn't want to jump into conclusions yet.
“Who is she, Ethan?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
“She's my daughter,” he said, his words dropping like a bombshell. Daughter? Did he move on so fast?
“You didn't even wait until I was dead.”
Before I could say something else, a pregnant Margaret made her way towards our direction. She seemed like she was chasing someone and when I saw her coming towards Ethan's direction, I knew that the little girl must be her daughter and that would only mean that—
“You moved on so quickly. Did you even care about me at all?” I scoffed. “You are no better than my stepmother - selfish , manipulative,”
It was until now that Margaret noticed my presence in the room. Her stride faltered as she saw me and the next minute, fear flashed in her eyes before she regained her composure.
“Lexi, you're…you're alive,” she stammered.
She turned around to face me with a stunned expression, her shock mirroring her mother's.
“What the hell? How are you alive?” She asked as she turned to face her mother. “How is this possible, mother?” She asked, her voice trembling slightly with fear.
“Mother, I thought you said you had everything taken care of. How did Lexie escape? How is she still alive?”
“Incompetent fools! They were supposed to get rid of you, and now, they've gotten rid of someone else!” Claudia hissed, her face twisting into rage.
My release must have thwarted whatever plans she had up her sleeves, else she wouldn't be so frustrated.
If she had paid the wardens to kill me, why did they release me? Who was behind all of these? I needed answers.
“Wait a minute, mother! Who did we bury?” Margaret asked. “If this bitch is still alive, that means we buried the wrong person,” she said as she gasped. “They sent the wrong corpse, mother,” she cried out.
Margaret's eyes widened in panic and horror. “What's going to happen now, mother? Lexi was supposed to be dead. Our plans can't work out now that she's hear,”
Lexi's Point Of View I was about to take a quick nap since I had nothing to do, when a sharp knock came at the door. I just hope it isn't Ethan. But then again, I knew that if he was the one, he wouldn't have knock before coming in. That was how crazy he was. Maybe not crazy. But stupid. What if it was his father? Oh goodness! I don't think I want to face that man again. Especially after what happened that night. I know he has asked me not to worry about anything, but I don't think I can help it. I still can't believe that I had a one night stand with him. Well, I love the fact that I got married to the same man who had stolen my virginity. “Who is there?” I asked after taking a deep breath. I was expecting his deep baritone voice to come up, but instead I was met with a feminine voice. The voice doesn't belong to Grace the housekeeper. She was the only one I knew would dare to come to my room. So who else could it be? “It's me, Madame. Can I come in, please ?" She asked. “Com
Lexi's Point Of View “Don't worry about them, Lia. I am out of prison and that's all that matters for now.” I said amidst my chuckles. If care is not taken, Lia would go back to that prison yard and demand to know why they haven't been giving me the cookies that she's been bringing for me. That was how crazy she was. But no matter how crazy she was, I still loved her and I was never going to trade her for anything. She is the sister I never had. Most times I find myself wishing that she was my biological sister. “Anyways, where are you staying currently? I went to your house this morning, but I was told by the maids that you don't live there anymore. Plus I didn't meet your family members at home too and I was wondering if they've finally moved out of your mother's house. I swear to God, I'll be happy to know that they are no longer staying in your mother's house anymore." “Of course not. They haven't moved out. I think they are at the hospital right now.” I answered and I cou
THEY WILL HEAR FROM MELexi's Point Of View I sat on the bed and brought out my phone to answer some emails. Yes, I'd spent the whole day trying to speak with some of my mother's former business partners. You know, lot of them stopped investing in my mother's company when they found out what happened that day. And I don't blame them one bit. No one in his right senses would want to associate with a company that had such scandalous news. But thankfully, I made sure to text all of them, asking them if they'll like to reinvest in my mother's company. It was a breath of fresh air to see that they all agreed without batting an eye. Indeed my mother was right when she said they were loyal business partners. She said they were people that she can trust. I really wasn't't expecting them to agree so soon. In fact, I wasn't expecting them to agree at all. I mean they all withdrew their investments when I was framed for killing my mother and I never expected them to want to have anything
Margaret's Point Of View I dialed Daniel's phone and waited patiently for him to pick it up. He is Ethan's best friend and the only person who I know can talk senses into Ethan without any fear in the world. Whenever I need anything from Ethan, I make sure to ask Daniel to help me or whenever I needed someone to talk some senses into Ethan, he was my next option and thankfully, he always knows how to talk some senses into Ethan. Till date, I still have no idea how he does it. But I'm glad that he always helps. Daniel didn't pick at first and just when I tried to call him again, his call came in and without hesitation, I answered the phone. “Hi, daniel?” I was sure to clear my throat before speaking up. I have to speak in a firm voice. “Hi, Marga. Sorry I didn't pick up at first. I was with someone.” He answered and I giggled. “Who is she? Your new fling, huh?” I teased and the next minute, he burst into laughter. He knows that I know whenever he is with a woman and he never t
Margaret's Point Of View “Have you tried calling him again?” My mother inquired as soon as she walked out of the ward where my daughter was placed and I couldn't even bring myself to answer her. She knows that I've been trying to reach Ethan, but I haven't been able to get to him. I've tried calling him over and over again, but he isn't even picking his calls. The last time I called him was two minutes ago and now that I've tried to call him again, I find out that he has switched off his phone. But the fact that he switched off the phone didn't even bother me. What pissed me off was the fact that he was at his father's house currently. Yes, I had tried to track him when he wasn't returning my calls, because I wanted to know where he was. And now that he is at his father's house, there is every tendency that he is with my fucking step sister. The fool is with LEXI. And that thought filled me with nothing but anger and more hatred for Lexi. She is the reason why my daughter is i
Julian's Point Of View “You got married to that girl?” He asked and I nodded like he could see me. He knows about my obsession with my son's girlfriend ever since I set my eyes on her. In fact, when I met Lexi for the first time, I wanted to take things forward with her. I wanted to tell her how I have been admiring her for a long time and I wanted her to be my girlfriend…. No, not just my girlfriend. I wanted something more. I wanted her to be my wife. Yes, my wife. So she could have my kids. I've always wanted more kids, but my ex-wife never wanted one. She said her body was more important to her than any kids and I didn't push her to go against her wish. Now back to, Lexi. Of course, I told my friend about it. First of all, he was against me getting married to someone who was old enough to be my daughter. He asked me to go for someone else. And when I also found out that she was my son's girlfriend, I also told him about it. And Marcus was happy. The brute really didn't wan

Julian's Point Of View I was about to leave my study and go to my little wife when a call came in on my phone. I wanted to ignore it. Heaven knows I wanted to, but I decided to sit back and answer the call. I reached for the phone which was across the table. The caller ID flashed in my eyes and I exhaled sharply. It was my best friend, Marcus. We've been together since we were teenagers. We did virtually everything together and we even went to the same college. We didn't lose contact with each other, even though we both went separate ways. During my time in college, I made lots of friends who turned out to be business partners till date. But as for Marcus, we are still very close friends till now, even though it's been over thirty years. Thirty? Nah! I think it's over forty. That's how long we've been together. “Hey, man. What's up with you?” His usual grumpy voice came up. “Marcus! What have you been up to?” I asked him and he exhaled. We haven't spoken in a while, especiall
Ethan's Point Of View What the fuck is wrong with me? I hissed through gritted teeth as I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I hadn't gone in there to seduce Lexi. I had only gone there to scold her for hurting my daughter. Yet, I had gone in there to make a fool of myself. I should have left when I heard the shower running, indicating that she was in the bathroom, but I couldn't. It was as if my legs had lost their balance and I couldn't move. I'd wanted to see that succulent body once again. I wanted to touch it.One thing I've come to know about her is the fact that she never fails to leave the bathroom naked. I've been with her for three years to know such little details about her. She rarely leaves the bathroom with her towel draped around her body. And when I heard that she was in the bathroom, I knew she was gonna do the same thing. And boy, she didn't disappoint. I could vividly remember how my cock felt at the thought of her body, pressed against mine. It's safe to sa
