Valerie's POV

“Ma'am Valerie just made the best decision of her life by sending her sister away from her. I am so happy for her.” Sara gossiped as she chopped the carrots.

“Yes I am happy for her as well. She is a good person and doesn't deserve the hatred her sister shows to her. I am glad she finally came to the realization of the truth.” Mia added, washing some cauliflower under water.

Watching the two of my maids talk so freely about me made me pause at the kitchen door, smiling at myself while pondering on their words.

I stood there quietly, listening as they continued with their chores, their voices low but utterly honest. They were being honest and their honesty was my consolation.

A small smile curved on my lips even though my heart felt heavy, heavy with pain and betrayal. Their words were true, even though they didn’t know the depth of my pain, they could relate with me, something Veronica, my only relative, couldn't do.

Sending Veronica away wasn’t just a decision I had

Veronica's POV I rode my Corolla down the road as I took a right turn. I looked at my watch. 10:45. My heart skipped. Fifteen minutes left before it was 11 o'clock and I had to be there before the time for meeting with Glynn. I pressed the accelerator harder, my hands firmly clutched on the wheel, my heart throbbing faster than the car. I kept checking the road because car drivers have been acting crazy and it was only by luck that I was able to escape from getting rammed.I checked out my reflection in the mirror and deep down, I knew I was set for this big move of mine. I had done my makeup lightly. A little concealer, highlighter and contour. The makeup was light but it was sharp enough to draw attention. Sharp enough to cut through a paper. My dress hugged me in the right placesStrapless and elegant just the way Glynn wanted. I breathed out slowly and gripping the wheel tighter, I tripled my speed. Today was the beginning of a war, and I couldn’t afford to be late. After a fe

Veronica's POVI didn't know what to expect but I still placed Glynn's number on call. It's been a while since he sent me crazy text messages or bumped into me but I had this feeling it was time for us to work together. “What did you say? Veronica? Did you just call me? What!?.”I pressed the phone tighter to my ear, my heart racing as his voice came through. His voice sounded shocked and rough like he had been waiting for this call. My hand slightly trembled and for a moment I regretted ever reaching out to him but I literally didn't have options.“Yes, Glynn. It’s me,” I answered, my tone low but firm. “Don’t sound so surprised because you are excited to hear my voice. You knew I would eventually reach out to you one day. It was only a matter of time before I realized that I need you to help me win against my enemies.”There was silence for a while and I could hear his breath in my ears like he had held the phone to his mouth.Suddenly, he chuckled darkly. “So, the mighty Veronica

Veronica's POV I paced around my room, my gaze falling on Prescott who was fast asleep.I still couldn't believe that Valerie would choose Baron over me. That was so annoying that I didn't know how to react to it. I folded my arms and sighed deeply, my chest burning with anger. Valerie was my sister, my own blood, yet she picked a man over me. She picked a man who she wasn't sure if he would you pick her over himselfHow could she do that? I apologized against my own will hoping she would take me back into her arms like she always did but I was wrong. She threw me out like I was a thrash. After everything I had gone through, after all the times I cried to her in forgiveness she still abandoned me for Baron. For a man I had earlier dumped and she picked up.I felt betrayed and sad, like it didn't matter at all what I wanted. She was bent on having me out and now I was out for good. I looked at Prescott again, his little face so calm in sleep. He was the only reason I was still hol

Two days later Valerie's POV“Serve the food now, Ami.” I instructed one of the maids as I took my own seat at the table.Baron was already seated before I came out of the room to eat. Veronica was also there seated beside Prescott who sat down quietly like he had a fever which he didn't have but his behavior is quite awkwardAmi hurried to set the plates on the table, her hands moving fast as if she also felt the tension in the air. Two other maids assisted her in moving the dishes from the kitchen to the table.I sat upright, my eyes moving from Baron to Veronica and then to Prescott. Prescott was eeriely still and kept fidgeting like a guilty child, like he had just been scolded. Prescott's fingers tapped the table while Veronica whispered something into his ear and this made him freeze even more and the moment after she whispered into his ears, he quit drumming on the table.Baron cleared his throat but said nothing, his eyes cold and sharp on both of them. I picked up my fork s

Valerie's POV I clutched Baron's arms, shaking my head profusely.“No need to kneel, Baron. I forgive you.”Baron's gaze widened and I extended my hand, wiping his tears away.“Listen to me, Baron. I shouldn't be doing this. It's wrong. I listened to your story, listened to Veronica's audio and that is enough proof that you are innocent.”Baron blinked in shock, his lips parting as if he was trying to say something but his ears still couldn’t believe my words. I forced a weak smile although I felt my heart agonize as it was still heavy. “I forgive you, Baron, not because I feel comfortable with my pain or because the pain is gone, but because holding onto it will destroy me and our baby. Holding onto it will only complicate the matter and not solve anything. I need peace and not scars.” I touched my stomach gently and sighed. “My forgiveness doesn’t also mean I am forgetting. My trust is broken and trusting is something I don't usually give and this is because it will take time
