As Sean drove her to school that morning Amy tried to memorize the geometry formulas she had not learned the previous night. She would repeat the formulas to herself in a low voice thinking Sean was not listening to her, however she discovered it was not that way from what he said next.
"Can you chill? You're stressing me, and I'm not even the one taking that exam." He said as he stopped on a red light.
"I didn't learn these formulas, i' m nervous. "
"Amy, you are a good student. I know you will ace that exam. There's no need to panic."
She knew he was right. Her grades wouldn't be lower than a C, but she still tried to raise them, always hoping to do her besy. it frustrated her that her weaknesses were all numerical classes, as she preferred theoretical classes like Literature and History. She decided to follow his advice and calm down. Fifteen minutes later they arrived to Mackenzie North High School, and Amy unbuckled her seat belt. Sean extended his hand containing a twenty-dollar bill.
"What's that for?" She asked looking at the money confused.
"For any emergency you have, lunch or any other stuff. I'll pick you at three. "
Amy grabbed the money and said goodbye to Sean before leaving the car. She walked through the familiar halls of that school, ignoring the inappropriate PDA most couples showed and the students who also ignored her during the last years. By now she was used to this, to be invisible. She just ignored them as they ignored her, it was easier that way. She walked to her locker and grab her books when she heard someone say "boo " in her ear, she turned and it was Dana.
"Dana, what was that for? "she asked.
"Just surprising my best friend. " Dana answered giving her a hug.
"Not funny Dana. I almost drop my books."
"To me it was. " Dana answered with a smirk on her face.
"Well, then you have an awkward sense of humor. But you're my best friend and I love you no matter what."
"I love you too, now let's go to class. "
Dana placed her arm around Amy 's shoulder and walked together to the Geometry class. Amy knew Dana since they were in preschool, and since then both of them were inseparable. She felt lucky Dana was her friend, her only one in that school. She has always been shy, and because of that she had issues making friends. With Dana she felt comfortable, and that was all she needed. They both sat at their places, at the back.
"He's not here. " Dana whispered to Amy.
"Who?" Amy whispered back.
"Jonah. "she answered.
Amy noticed she was right, Jonah Parker, her crush was not there. She wondered if he was sick, and that was the reason why he was not there, hoping it was just a bad feeling she was having. Mr. Collins, their Geometry teacher arrived and told the class to sit down and get ready for the exam. In that same moment Jonah Parker entered the classroom. He was wearing a black beanie that matched his pants, and a gray plain t-shirt, and handed a small paper to him.
"Coach Carter wanted to speak to me. That's why I'm late. " He explained.
"Go grab a seat, Mr. Parker. " Mr. Collins answered, pointing to an empty seat.
Jonah sat in the empty seat in front of Amy and started looking in his backpack. Seconds later he turned to Amy.
"Do you have any spare pencils i can borrow?"
Amy couldn't believe he was talking to her. She nervously looked for another pencil in her own backpack and when she found one, she handed it to him.
"Thanks. " He answered winking his eye at her and turning back.
Amy had trouble concentrating on her test, it was the first time Jonah spoke to her in class. Usually he would sit on the other side of the classroom, and since this time he was late his usual seat was taken. Forty-five minutes later the bell rang and everyone passed their exams to the front and were handed to Mr. Collins. Jonah turned again and handed the pencil to Amy.
"Thanks. "
"You're welcome. " She answered in a low voice.
Amy and Dana walked to the restroom before going to their next class. Amy was combing her hair and Dana was applying gloss on her lips. Suddenly Dana spoke breaking the silence.
"I can't believe Jonah talked to you. How was it?" Dana asked excitedly crossing her arms.
"He just borrowed a pencil, that's no big deal. " Amy answered by placing her comb away.
"He winked at you. "Dana said.
"From what i heard he does that a lot when speaking to girls. "
"Seriously Amy? You have an interaction with Jonah and you're not even excited? If i were you i would be thrilled."
Dana was right, it was the first time Jonah spoke to her, so why couldn't she be more excited?Probably because she knew she had no chance with him. Jonah Parker was the captain of the soccer team, and he was one of the most popular boys, he would never notice her. Before she could answer, the door was open and a blonde girl they both knew entered with her two minions. It was Jenna Stone, the rich snobby girl that believed she was better than everyone else. Her father was a surgeon, while her mother was a former beauty queen. She was with no doubt a beautiful girl, however her personality killed it. She looked with disgust at Amy and Dana when she entered. Jenna would make fun of people she didn't considered at her level. She frowned her face when seeing the girls.
"What ? Do I owe you something? " Dana said.
"What did you just say?" Jenna replied, crossing her arms angrily.
"You heard me already. Or do you want me to repeat it slowly so your small brain can process it? Stop staring at me. " She answered.
Amy knew she had to interfere, or the situation would get worse. She didn't want Dana to get in trouble because of Jenna Stone, it was not worth it.
"Let's go before we are late to class. " Amy said, grabbing Dana's arm taking her away to avoid a confrontation.
Dana gave a cold look to Jenna who returned an ugly look. Amy was happy she dragged her friend out of there or something very ugly would have happened. The day ended and the girls walked to their lockers.
"Dana, be careful with Jenna. You know how awful she can be. " Amy said opening her locker.
"I'm not scared of her; she needs a reality check thinking she rules the school."
"True, but please be more cautious. She is trouble. "
"Fine, I will. I have to go; my parents are outside waiting for me. See you tomorrow. " Dana said waving goodbye to her friend.
Amy looked at her watch and noticed it was almost time for Sean to pick her up. She walked as fast as she could not noticing the wet floor sign vector and she felt her feet slipping and tripping until a pair of arms grabbed her from the front.
"Watch where you're going Wilkes, or you'll break something. " He said.
"I'm sorry for bumping you. " She said, embarrassed.
"That's fine, nothing happened to me. Are you ok?" He asked.
"Yes, thanks. " She answered nervously looking at the floor.
"Just be careful, or that pretty face of yours will get scarred. See ya, Wilkes." He said smiling and placing a hand on her shoulder.
Amy was surprised to know that Jonah knew her last name, she never expected it since before that day they never exchanged a word. She couldn't help smiling as she walk to see her brother at the school entrance, it was a wonderful day for her after all.
"Hey. " She said to Sean as she entered the car and buckled her seat.
"How was school?" He asked moving his car slowly.
"Pretty good. " She answered.
"How was your test?"
"Not as hard as i thought it would be. "
"See? I told you had nothing to worry about. "Amy wasn't really listening to what her brother was saying, she was rewinding on her head her interactions with Jonah. It was definitely the best day of her life. After all, he knew she existed and it made her happy. She felt in Cloud Nine. That night she went to bed thinking of him, wondering if there would be a chance Jonah would look at her in a romantic way, she knew she was not the only girl on the school who had a crush on him, but somehow her imagination flew and made her think there could be a small chance for her. Her eyes became heavy and finally she slept dreaming of him.
Sean decided to have Chinese food for dinner, so he drove to the restaurant they liked the most. They asked for dumplings, sour and sweet chicken, and wonton. They ate dinner and at the same time they discussed their day, it was something they always did when they lived with their parents, and somehow, they kept that tradition even though it was only the two of them now. It made them feel closer to each other." So, my students got mad at me for having them write an essay since they said there's a huge party this weekend. I told them they have to have their priorities well defined. Can you believe it?Sean was an English teacher at Western Miami University. He enjoyed his job a lot, however he would mention how troublesome his students were. Amy had a great admiration for her brother since he was hardworking and determined: Sean had fifteen years old, and she was ten when their parents died on a plane crash. They were having an important business on Boston and their presence was requi
The soccer practice ended, and the boys went to the lockers to shower and change themselves. Jonah was checking that nothing from his stuff was missing from his bag, he was very careful with his things. He checked his cellphone; his uniform and his hygiene things were all inside. He felt relieved, he trusted his friends but couldn't say the same about his other teammates. "What did Amy Wilkes want?" Danny asked putting on some deodorant. "Just wanted to thank me. For defending her today." Jonah answered drinking water. " Yeah, everyone heard what you did for her today. Are you two a thing now?" Brad Coleman mockingly asked. Brad Coleman was the previous soccer captain before Jonah came to school. Jonah was told by Danny how Brad was so arrogant and cocky, as he would act as he was the only player on the team, and would hardly even pass the ball during games. However, everything changed when Jonah entered the team, his teammates obviously preferred him since he did play with his t
"Exactly what happened at P.E class?" Sean asked after reading the information the nurse sent him. That was exactly was Amy feared that Sean would react like this, and unfortunately for her it became true. Sean was acting overprotective again. She appreciated his concern but sometimes she felt he overreacted too much. She sometimes felt like telling him to take a chill pill, but that would make anger him more."We were playing volleyball and i got hit, that's all. It's no big deal." She said shrinking her shoulders."The school nurse doesn't seem to think that way if she sent me this information. " Sean said raising an eyebrow."She's just doing her job, common Sean. Please don't make a scandal of this, it's over. ""If someone is bullying, you would tell me right?" He crossed his arms."Where is this coming from?" She asked confused."If this girl that hit you today is bullying you, I have all right to know. Is she bugging you?"Amy sighed. There was no point in lying to Sean. When s
When Amy opened her eyes she saw herself on a hospital bed. She looked around and saw no familiar faces, she closed her eyes trying to remember what happened but with no luck. She felt confused, but felt relieved when seeing Sean's face not far from there. He was talking to a doctor and as soon as he saw her he rushed to her side. The doctor came with him."Amy, how are you feeling?"Sean asked placing a hand on her head."Confused. " She answered. "Doctor, is she really ok?" Sean asked concerned. "Amy, do you remember what happened to you?" The doctor asked."Not really. ""You were on a school trip with your classmates and an accident at the lab you were visiting happened. You remember that?" The doctor asked. "I remember some stuff, like a gas coming out and everyone freaking out. " She said staring at them. "What do her test results show?" Sean asked the doctor who checked his paperwork."According to our test results, she's fine. However we would like to keep her one more night
Amy had trouble focusing in her classes as she had no idea who placed the teddy bear in her locker. It was ridiculous to her something like this mattered that much, but it was intriguing at the same time. Who would bother to open her locker and place a teddy bear ? The answer to that question shouldn't be hard, besides from Dana she was not friends with anyone else. This bothered her even at lunch." Can't stop thinking about the bear?" Dana guessed as she gave a bite to the lettuce in her salad. "No, i know it's dumb but I can't stop thinking about it." Amy sighed."Hey, i have a guess of who could have done it. " Dana whispered."Who?""Jonah. ""Nice joke, seriously who do you suspect?" Amy said drinking her water. "I'm serious. Jonah could have as well place it. ""You seriously think Jonah Parker, the popular soccer captain would bother opening my locker and placing a get well soon teddy bear there?""Why not? He speaks to you, somehow, he likes you. Maybe not like like but ye
"Amy, what's wrong?" Sean asked while knocking the door."Nothing." Amy answered trying to calm down." Are you okay? Why did you scream?""It's nothing Sean, i swear. " She tried closing her eyes and opening them to check if she could see herself again on the mirror but with no luck. She had no idea what was happening to her."Amy, if it's necessary i will throw this door away. What is happening inside?" All Amy wanted in that moment was to see able to see herself again and stop lying to her brother. She almost felt like crying when suddenly her reflection appeared again, making her feel calm. She opened the door and faced her brother, who had a worried expression in his face. "Are you ok? " He asked. "Yes, i hit myself when i got out of the shower. That's all. " She said hurrying to her room. "I prepared tea, want some? " He asked concerned. "No thanks, I'm going to bed. " she said opening the room of her door and closing it.Next morning she was at her locker taking out her book
As Jonah came back home driving he couldn't stop thinking about his interaction with Amy Wilkes that day. Isually girls giggled, smiled or even flirted back when he flirted. But not her. She looked nervous and seemed to pretend she didn't see him. Jonah sighed, it was the first time a girl wouldn't fall for him as fast as he thought. He only had a girlfriend in all his life, Lauren Brown, and since then he didn't date anyone else. She left to Los Angeles, to pursue a modeling career, leaving him heartbroken as he had strong feelings for her.He would go out with other girls ocasionally, but nothing serious as no other girl made him feel the way he did with her.Until now. When he arrived home he was greeted by Natasha, their russian maid who was in the kitchen washing dishes. "Good afternoon, Mr. Jonah." Natasha was a woman in her mid thirties. She was tall, blonde, with brown eyes, very beautiful. More than a maid, Natasha was more like a mother to him when his mother died. She would
Amy couldn't believe Jonah Parker pulled her name out and now both of them were to work together. She felt the look of the other girls on her, and she knew it wasn't because they were happy for her. She was thankful none of them had laser eyes or she would be dead already, as all their looks were icy and somehow murderous. When the bell indicating the period was over she rushed to the bathroom as she just wanted to be alone to order her ideas. When she felt calmer she walked to her next class.Lunch was next and she waited patiently for Dana to arrive and tell her everything that happened. She glanced around to see if she could see her but instead her eyes found Jonah, whose eyes also saw her and approached her."Damn. " Amy whispered to herself."So, Wilkes. You and I will be partners in English class." He said leaning a hand on the desk."Yes, we are. " Amy said with a shy smile."We should exchange phone numbers since we will have to talk constantly. What's your number?" He said taki
