Chapter 5 – Murderous

Ame POV

I was feeling murderous….I want to kill her….

Not only is she the responsible one for the death of my child, but she has told Calian…my husband, a lie.

Trying to turn him against me.

My hands grip tightly onto the pack house front door, turning the brass doorknob…the door opening with ease.

Since my miscarriage I haven’t been alone with her, I haven’t seen her eyes as she dares to deny what she has done to me.

She was the one that went out of her way to join me on the stage, she was the one that…I so clearly recall, forced me off at that great height.

She has been avoiding me, hiding behind Calian. Not any longer…

I take a step into the pack house, the building quiet as I find myself alone….my anger far from sedated.

If anything, it is replaced with irritation to find her not here.

I turn to search for her outside when I hear the soft breathing sounds of a baby, safely tucked into his moses basket positioned by the couch.

She isn’t even with her child; she doesn’t even deserve to have this baby…not when she robbed me of mine.

The hatred burns so fiercely inside of me that I have crossed the small living area, my hand resting on the side of the moses basket….I want her to hurt like me, feel the pain I feel….

A soft cry escapes from the baby, as he kicks off his blue blanket… his whimpering starting to turn more desperate as the coldness of the room spreads onto him.

It’s not fair that he gets to live and my child doesn’t.

What makes him so special that he gets to breathe, gets to feel Calian’s hands, gets to be his son….

As I stare down at the baby, I of all people can’t deny that there is something cute about him, my anger starting to calm for the first time in days.

I place the blanket back on the child, ensuring his toes were tucked in. My own soul for this short moment is no longer in pain, something about this child has captivated me.

I can feel my wolf push forward, her weakness from the long and lost pregnancy still affecting her. Something has upset her, perhaps the same thing that is upsetting me…the injustice of this all.

“Our…” She mumbles out through the mind-link we share, the child now tugging at his ear. I lean forward, preparing to big the child up when the front door blast open.

Bang!

“What are you doing?” Calian growls out, standing in the pack house doorway, as another figure aggressively pushes past me, almost knocking me to my feet.

“You were going to hurt him…” Dessa unnecessarily panics, taking her baby out of the moses basket, placing him to her chest and stepping backwards.

“What, no of course not.” I argue back at her accusation, defending myself but the baby was now severely crying, and she has turned her focus back on him, trying to soothe his tears.

“Your hand was on him.”

“I was just…his blanket had fallen off…” That anger I had felt before touching the child, that hatred starts to rise again …a growl emitting from me as I glare back at her.

“Ame?” Calian seethes out my name…no he can’t be believing her, why can’t he see through her lies.

“She was going to harm our child.” Dessa screams out fearfully.

“What?” This is ridiculous, I had no intentions of harming the child.

“You lost yours; you can’t bear it that mine survived ….you wanted to kill mine as well.” Her eyes are wide with a feigned fear.

Surely, he wouldn’t buy this.

“Surely you must see that coming here was a wrong choice on your part…” Calian takes a step towards me, his hand reaching out to place on top of my shoulder, but it lands mid-air as she calls out to him.

“He won’t stop crying, something is wrong.” Dessa all but shoves the baby into Calian’s arms, his eyes travelling downwards to the crying child that he now cradles in his chest.

“I’ll deal with you later.” His eyes refuse to look up at me; his stern words very much are aimed at me.

He refuses to believe me, throwing away all that we have built together for her. I refuse to defend myself anymore, why can’t he see how ludicrous her claims her…

“I’ll take him to the doctor.” He calls out over his shoulder to Dessa, as he steps through the front door protectively carrying his son in his arms.

I’m left devasted as he once again takes her word over mine. I hated her, but I never would have brought harm to the child….but the look in his eyes, the accusatory glare…he blames me, he thinks I am responsible for this.

“Poor Luna, without a child…how long do you think you can remain by his side?” She strides past me, a mocking tone to her voice as she follows Calian, only to stop by the front door.

“You killed my child, Calian will find out….I’ll make sure of it.”

“Delusional with grief.” She tilts her head to the side, her lips pouting out as she maintains that mocking stance.

Red rage takes me, my body may still be healing, my wolf may still be sleepy…but I’ll kill her with my own bare hands.

The rage I feel is murderous enough to take out a pack.

I throw her against the door frame, my hands wrapped around her throat as I squeeze tightly, wanting to end of life...like she has ended mine.

She scrambles to push me off, clawing at my hands to gain an inch of space to breathe, but my grip just continues to strengthen.

“Do you know why your child didn’t survive?” She gasps out, finally sucking in air when my grip lessens. She doubles over, grasping at her throat as red marks linger from my attack.

I want to hear what she has to say, I want to know where my child is.

“He never wanted your child…” She chokes out.

“..he only wanted a child from me, his fated mate.” She rises once more, her shoulders widening, a sinister grin spreading out onto her lips.

“What do you mean?”

“Calian never wanted your child, he only wanted my child…the child of his fated mate. The child blessed by the Moon Goddess herself. My child is destined to be the Alpha, not your child.” She steps through the front door, her shoulders pulled back, and her head held high before turning, a hateful look upon her face.

“Calian personally ensured your child didn’t survive.” She declares before heading out the door, chasing after her fated mate and child.

So, he went to her first….he saved her first, while I was left bleeding on the cold grass, watching our child die.

My fingers curl inwards into my palm, clenching hard cutting through skin.

Dessa POV

It gives me undeniable pleasure to watch her downfall, to witness her suffering.

Calian is my fated mate, I am the destined Luna of the Shadow Hunters pack, not her.

How dare he mark another female, a lesser female …how dare he not wait for me.

Does he think I would be willing to share him…to share the title that I was born to take.

He is weak, weak for giving into his desires but also weak for marrying her. Why couldn’t he have just slept with her, had his wicked way with her and then tossed her to the curb.

Isn’t that what all alphas do…

He even wanted to return without me, to prepare her…but I knew I had to come with him. I just knew she wasn’t as naïve as he made out…she is a beta’s daughter after all.

The child became my only chance to secure the position of Luna…to force her out.

Even now as I hold him in my arms, I can see I was the one that was meant to raise him, to be his mother….I am the fated luna after all.

“Shh hush little one, Mummy is here…” I bring him closer to my chest, my fingers moving his blanket away to reveal the birth mark behind his ear.

I do regret the loss of my own child, but this boy is crucial to my future, he is the only chance I have in securing my rightful position as Luna.

I can’t let her discover it; it opens too many questions.

She cannot find out that the child that perished was not hers.

I must kill her; she must die.

Calian POV “What are you saying?” “I’m saying I need your men to guard the borders while I leave and take my men with me.” I pause thinking about what he is asking. The deal between us is now void, if it ever held in the first place. He has done nothing but try and undermine me, why should I believe him now. “You have a beta…” My eyes flicker up to watch Dessa as she starts paces across the carpet of my office. Her hands held upwards to her temple as she whispers to herself. “My beta has gone with her.” Belgaire’s voice becomes increasingly irate. “Sounds like she left by choice. She’s not stupid Belgaire, she is a beta’s daughter. Nothing she does is out of chance.” I don’t hide the hidden meaning in my wording to him, she…like him…has played me for a fool. “Contrary to what you believe Calian, Ame has spent years treating rogues and growing increasingly fond of them. She may not think that they mean her harm, but when the rogue’s alpha warned me that she wasn’t meant fo

Calian POV “Another baby Dessa, you can’t be serious?” I pry her hands off me, pushing them away to gain breathable space between us. “Why not, Athan is five now Calian and I know it is hard to think of, but a second son would keep the pack safe. Keep the Ombretta blood line leading this pack.” “Keep the pack safe?” “We don’t know what she did to him, whether she healed him like she promised she would. It’s clear her entire presence here was a lie, that she and Belgaire came with an ulterior motive. Everything that comes out of that bitch’s mouth is a lie.” Hertongues twists with pure hatred. Her eyes start to bleed out to that of her wolf, the darkness that I always thought matched for mine….something soulless about them. “Watch what you call my wife Dessa.” I lowly growl out in warning, my wolf launching forward to remind her of her place. “I…ex wife Calian, I am your fated mate…your Luna.” Her demeanour shifts as she adheres my warning, but her tone remains similar. Calian POV I pull up to the alpha house, cutting the power to the car as my concentration falls upon my son playing catch in the front garden with Sawyer. Athan wears a large baseball glove, far too large for his small build. He catches a high ball thrown by Sawyer, my new beta moving closer to clap my son on the back to congratulate him on his catch. I look at my son from afar, really look at him. My entire body feels heavy, as if my blood is turning into metal as I breathe. Is this the gut-wrenching pain of generational guilt…for what my dad did to Ame after the death of her father, for what I have done to my son. He’s always been…easy. Apart from his health condition he has never brought drama at my front door, never gotten into fights…he is well respected by his peers and elders. I’ve never once considered him not being Dessa’s, he has the same colourings as her….as me. I was there, the night he was born…how could he have been switched without me noticing. I did go to Ame aft

Ame POV While the cats away the mice will play. But the mice do not realise that I used to be a cat as well. “Is there a problem?” I call out as I gain on the gate now surrounded by Savage Fangs’ warriors. All this for seven men…rogue men at that. “I told you to wait inside.” Beta Logan snaps back at me, sending a side glance my way…refusing to move his body out of his attack stance. His entire body is tilted forward, his spine elongated and his chest puffed out. As I step closer, I notice all of the warriors mirror his stance, they are preparing for his orders to attack. “Alpha is on his way; he sent me to investigate what exactly the issue here is?” I calmly reply, ignoring the overwhelming scent of hyped-up testosterone. Conscious that the escalating situation needs to be diffused immediately. It needs a female’s touch. “The issue?” The rogue alpha smirks back at me, his arms crossing as his eyes slowing scan me from toe to head. He hasn’t adopted an attack position like t

Ame POV“Sound the alarm!” Logan roars out, the head of security immediately going into a mind-link as he sends orders to the security team.“What, logan surely that’s not….” He cannot be serious; the only crime is the rogues walking away back to the treeline. Granted they may have lied about their wounds but that’s hardly a reason to put the entire pack into full war mode.“Sound the alarm, we are on lockdown. I want all warriors to the borders, all non- fighters in the bunk house.” He commands out, his beta aura rolling off him. With Belgaire off grounds he is the highest-ranking leader, his demands must be followed.“Logan…” I place a gentle hand upon his shoulder, preparing to calm him when he turns…his eyes bleeding out to that of his wolf.“You stay here, you lock yourself in the alpha’s office!” He orders out at me, the command thick with his beta aura.“What no…I can fight.”“You are our healer, Ame. I need you alive to heal the wounded.”“Logan it won’t come to that. They’ve

Ame POV Logan continues to refuse to let the few remaining rogues into the pack grounds. Without Belgaire on site he isn’t willing to change the orders, which I understand, but these are children and elders. They wouldn’t be able to put up much of a fight.Even the mothers that huddle around their little ones, yes, they have wolves, yes they could fight but they are no threat. They are exhausted, running on empty. I couldn’t walk away from them, not without checking them first. I return to my clinic, collecting pots of my medicine and head back towards the border only to find two warriors waiting to escort me. Logan, no doubt, ordering them to watch my every move. I work through the small group, slowly earning their trust as they start to let me treat the children. I am constantly watched by the warriors, their intense glares upon the rogues and my every move, adding a level of tension around me. “I thought you were a healer?” I look up from applying cream onto child’s foot, to
