Chapter 1

The Luna in Chains

Alicia's POV

“Alpha James allowed me to celebrate here. You have no right to stop me, my Luna.” Celine's voice, laced with mockery, cut through the loud music.

My eyes stung with tears, and my fist was clenched tightly around the hem of my blue gown. I exhaled silently as my eyes scanned the dishevelled living room.

“Come on, everyone. Let's continue partying. It's my 20th birthday party, and I'm not letting anyone ruin it for me. Especially not her.” She sneered.

“Yaaayy!” They exclaimed excitedly.

“Owww!” Celine's friend howled into the loud music jolting the blue lights harshly. They kept dancing and rocking each other with heels and boots stamping the floor violently.

My body trembled in pain. The old wound in my leg ached all over again.

Bottles of liquor collided against the floor thundering through the hallway. The screeching sound sliced through me, spiking memories from the past.

“You will never be able to escape this dungeon, Alicia. You are mine to do as I please forever.”

I remembered Alpha Cole's voice like it was yesterday when I had been locked up and tortured.

The night breeze oozed coldly, stinging every fibre of my being. My fingers trailed down the wound on my leg as the memories came running down.

About this time, two months ago. I was trapped in an iron net, piercing blood out of my body as the night guards from Silver Moon Pack transported me like a criminal.

William had suddenly mindlinked me the night before, sounding distressed. He said he had been trapped in danger during the pack war.

He assured me he had already escaped the enemy and only needed me to rescue and bring him home because he was severely injured.

I dropped everything I was doing and stormed out of the pack in the middle of the night, only to be abducted by Alpha Cole.

My body shuddered, and my eyes brimmed with tears as I remembered the excruciating pain of the strap tearing through my pale skin.

“Please spare me…” I had mouthed weakly to the guards as they strapped me against the electric chair for the sixth time on the tenth day of my abduction.

“No! No!! No!!!” I had cried with every strength in me as the nine-inch nails sledged into my knees with a hammer.

For two months, I was severely beaten with sticks and left on the cold floor in the dungeon where I would go days without food or drink.

It took James two months to rescue me. And when he finally arrived, I had lost the will to continue living. I was already crippled, frail, and at the brink of death.

It took me a few weeks after my rescue to be able to step into the light again because I would go into shock if I saw lights or heard wolves howling.

My wolf growled deeply within me in distress with anger burning through me.

“Leave!” My wolf Anaya's voice took over.

“Everyone out now!” Her sharp voice brought every noise to a halt.

Celine turned towards me with a spiteful glance.

“The alpha…”

I stamped my feet on the floor violently, and her words rolled back into her mouth. Every hair on my head sprouted, and my claws extended.

The veins on my head and arms popped out, and my eyes darkened, with my heavy breath hovering over the room.

“Leave! I order you all as Luna.” Anaya's voice deepened, and Celine's eyelashes flustered as she staggered back.

“You can't do this to me. I will make sure the Alpha hears of this.” Her voice cracked into sobs. She grabbed her purse and ran out of the living room crying.

Her friends and cohorts followed after her immediately, causing a loud noise as they tried to escape.

Deep down, I knew the silence that followed Celine's departure was something I should dread.

I heaved a deep sigh in relief with my fist clenched into a tight ball. I dragged my heavy feet and limped towards the window.

Later that night, the door to my room flung open, and I jolted up from the bed with my breath caught in my throat.

“How dare you?” James's cold voice filled the room as he marched towards me.

“James…” My words hung midway as he clamped his fist around my throat.

“Aaahh!” A muffled cry escaped my lips as my back slammed against the hard floor.

“Celine fainted from being angry with you. She has been sent to the hospital!” James yelled at me as his tall figure towered over me.

Pain jolted through my body, and hot tears poured down my face uncontrollably.

“I didn't do anything to her, James. I just…” my lips trembled.

“Don't you speak! This is all your fault. How could you have chased her away from celebrating her birthday? How cruel can you be?” He shouted.

“I was only trying to…” I stammered weakly

“I couldn't stand the lights and their howls. You know how it gets to me, James. If only I could get rehabilitation…” James cut me off as I spoke.

“Oh, please! You are overly dramatic. It's been two months already, get over it. Besides, Celine only requested one night. Is that too hard to give?” He retorted.

“You will pay for this!” He threatened and stormed out of the room.

The following morning, my eyes opened weakly, as faint light seeped through the room.

My face crumbled in confusion as the clanging sound of chains echoed through the room, as I tried to sit up.

A throbbing headache hammered through my head, bringing me to submission.

“She's truly crazy, I can see it now.” Beta Gerald's voice interrupted the silence that filled the atmosphere.

I looked up and flinched as I noticed a transparent glass over me. My eyes widened in shock as I scanned the confined cell where I now sat on its cold floor.

Where am I?

The question lingered in my mind.

“Spending two months in the enemy's camp must have done a number on her. William should never have bothered bringing her home.” Gamma Ben's voice invaded my thoughts, and I looked up again.

“I just hope she goes away for good and never comes back,” Ben suggested as though I wasn't hearing them.

“Celine will make a perfect Luna for James. She's young, beautiful, and isn't crazy.” Gerald added, and they both burst into mocking laughter.

My eyes stung with tears as I watched my two best friends talk about me in such a manner.

Gerald, Ben, James, and I grew up together, and we have always remained inseparable. But in two months of my disappearance, everything changed.

I made excuses for them, thinking they were busy, and that was the reason they didn't come to visit after I was rescued.

But I was wrong. They just want nothing to do with me anymore.

Tears trickled down my face as I wrapped my arms around my body and brought my clamped knees to my face.

“Hey!” Beta Gerald yelled into the room, and I brought my face up slowly.

“Just so you are aware. You will be going to the Meyers Asylum for treatment. Alpha James had asked that we bring you there.” Beta Gerald informed me with a smirk on his face.

“No!” My stifled voice gave way.

“No….” I shook my head in disbelief.

“James can't, you both can't… Please… you..” My lips trembled as my entire body shuddered with fear spiralling through me.

I have heard so many scary stories about the Meyers Asylum. No werewolf ever leaves the asylum alive. If I go there, I will be doomed, and that will be the end of me.

I stared into the walls in disbelief and tried to stand up, but my legs were chained. I felt something slide off my body, and I looked.

“My phone!” My eyes flickered with excitement. I quickly placed a call through to Damon and tapped my fingers against my thighs as I waited for the call to connect.

Only Damon can save me.

“Alicia!” Robert's voice came up from the other end, and my lips widened into a thin smile.

“Damon….” My voice disappeared as I felt a strong palm brush against my cheek. I staggered and looked up only to see James hovering over me with dark eyes.

“Don't you dare!” He yelled, and before I could react, he smashed my phone on the floor.

“You wanted rehabilitation, right? That is exactly what you will get, Alicia.” The words rolled out of William's mouth.
