Chapter 5

Chapter 5: The Kidnap

Annah remained on the couch thinking about what to do. What Rita said was true. Connor Richards wasn’t a man who would look at someone like her twice. She must have truly imagined everything.

“Annah, I am sorry, I need to head out to work now,” Rita announced as she returned to the room dressed in a flamboyant dress that had huge puffy shoulders.

Annah raised her brows at her. She moved her eyes to the shoes and she almost burst into laughter. “Rita, what exactly do you do now? Are you a stripper of some kind because I don’t understand how you will wear a seven-inch heel and move around so comfortably?”

“You know nothing about fashion!” Rita said waving her hand dramatically. “Make sure you lock my house when you leave,” she added over her shoulder as she pulled the door open.

Annah didn’t want to stay but she refused the awkward situation that would meet her if she went with Rita. Her best friend had a car but she never gave Annah a ride. She would rather, stick her head out through the window and blow Annah kisses.

Annah preferred to wait for a while longer and go her way when Rita had left already.

She lay on the couch and closed her eyes. The dream was still very vivid in her head. it felt so real, she still struggled to believe in herself even after Rita told her.

Even after her brain admitted that it was even absurd for Connor to want someone like her. the guy was a multibillionaire while she was just a low-budget writer. She didn’t consider herself to look sexy or anything.

She was just there. What were the odds that she would ever meet him?

Surely, all of these were just dreams. Now she could use them in her next story without feeling terrible.

Annah got up from the chair and walked to the fridge. She picked up bread and butter and brought them to the kitchen countertop. Next, she returned to the fridge and took a bottle of juice.

She ate quietly as she kept convincing herself that the marks on her body and the bruises were self-inflicted. It had nothing to do with Connor Richards. She probably just had a crush on him that was why she imagined such crazy thoughts.

After eating, she picked up her bag and left Rita’s house. All she had to do was focus on her new story and everything would be fine. Annah decided to take the long route home to help her mind stay free and open as she outlined her work in her head.

She was about to cross to the other side of the road when two SUVs came to a halt right in front of her.

She snapped out of her thoughts as she froze in place in shock. “Are you blind?” she yelled at the driver in front of her.

Suddenly, the second vehicle at the back opened and it was a man dressed in all black stepped out. They were not masked like those criminals, Annah had seen in movies –or even the ones she had written herself.

This one was confident, he bounced right in front of her and it was then she realized she was in danger. She took a step back and made to run but she found more men behind her.

“Who are you?” she stuttered as her legs went weak and her heart rattled in her chest.

What was happening? What did they want from her? Her brain was going overrun. She knew she had to scream but her voice was no longer in her control.

She opened her mouth but before any sound could leave, a large cloth was placed against it. Annah struggled to try and hope to create enough commotion to attract the attention of the people in the area but no one heard or saw her.

Her heart was almost tearing apart as panic broke into her. She was being kidnapped. It was no longer a dream, it was really happening.

Her struggles became weak as she suddenly felt lightheaded. She couldn’t move anymore but her consciousness was still intact. The man in front of her carried her in his arms like she was a bag of potatoes and placed her gently into the vehicle at the front.

Another man inside the vehicle received her and strapped her unto the seat.

“Don’t worry, you are safe now,” the man said and turned to the driver. “Let’s take her to the boss.”

Annah wanted to scream. She wanted to yell but all her motor senses were imprisoned by whatever they had put into her system. She couldn’t do anything but watch as they took her away.

Who was their boss? What did she do to them? Each question returned without an answer. She was just a simple girl. She didn’t do anything to anyone’s boss. Why then did they want her?

Annah dozed back and forth as she forced herself to stay awake. Even if she couldn’t fight or save herself, it would be best if she stayed awake to see what was going to happen to her.

The vehicle came to stop and the door opened. The man that had spoken to me carried me out and I was shocked to see that we were at a helipad. There was a helicopter parked right at the center and the man was taking me to it.

My eyes increased in size and my breathing started coming in short gasps as I fought the drugs in my system but it was all in vain.

“Relax, Annah. Nothing bad will happen to you,” the man said as we reached the helicopter. He placed me on the back seat and strapped me in.

The man was so gentle with me that I couldn’t help but feel a tiny bit safer when he was around but at the same time, the fear could not completely go away. Especially when he turned and said, “As long as you give the boss what he wants, he will release you in no time.”
