Chapter Twenty-Seven—The Unwanted Mate

**AURORA**

The first person I sought after was Mrs Ackerman the moment I rode away on my bike. She lived only a few blocks away from me. I parked my bike next to the Mail post which made a dingy sound, her dog started to bark loudly. I frowned, almost wanting to pet the Doberman when she came out to the porch.

“Aurora??” She called softly.

I smiled. Mrs Ackerman was one of the very few who always made sure I was okay after my parents died, unfortunately the folks of Midnight bay decided it best to stay away from her and all the kookiness she brought. A part of me felt guilty, the woman was right after all. Mythical creatures do exist.

I should know because I slept with one…

And I watched him fight, like an animal.

Thinking about it alone sent shivers down my spine. The ride down to her house was one of dread and horror, I looked over my shoulder multiple times, scared that the creature which attacked me would return.

Chapter Twenty-Eight—Breaking a bond “How do I break it?” “You can’t” “Surely there must be a way.” “I’m sorry but there isn’t.” “So you’re saying there’s no way I can sever the bond between me and the alpha??” Mrs Ackerman shook her head in disappointment, “I’m sorry dear but there isn’t”, then she paused for a moment, “Unless…” My eyes pried even more open, a glimmer of hope found its way back, “Unless what?” She sighed and then placed a hand over me, “You’ll have to kill the Alpha. Only then can you be free Aurora.”**ASHER**I found it hard to track her scent. The flowers, and the wolfsbane. My eyes still stung from the after effects of the fight with the rogue werewolf. I winced loudly as I made it back to the Blackwood mansion, Reagan and his ever indulging self waiting for me at the brunt of the stairs. I ignored him and turned straight for the living room. My eyes crossed paths with Aurora’s painting again which made me feel even more

  • The Moonlight Affair    Chapter Twenty-six—A Monster or A Lover

Chapter Twenty-six—A Monster or A Lover **ASHER** Her words felt like hot coal placed on my skin. “A monster?!!” I asked loudly, “Aurora just wai— “Don’t!” She warned, pointing the stick at me. It was amusing, seeing as it was useless against me, “Don’t come any closer!!” I sighed deeply, it was hard doing this. She already saw my true form, she was terrified of me, the other werewolf escaped and even worse she was in more danger than she realized. It attacked her in the open, not caring if I was there or not, which meant its imprint had moved on to obsession. One which wasn’t good for a human like her. “Please just let me explain,” I tried to beg her to see reason, “It’s not as bad as you— “It’s not as bad as I think?!!” She scoffed loudly, eyes almost wanting to protrude out of her sockets as she pointed her stick at a nonexistence, “You literally turned into a fucking animal!!!” “A werewolf.” I corrected. “Werewolf, demon, a wendigo

  • The Moonlight Affair    Chapter Twenty-five—BlackWood’s True Form

Chapter Twenty-five—Blackwood’s True form**ASHER** It was exactly as Reagan predicted. A wolf gone rouge. Whoever was behind this form was smart, very smart, hiding its scent with flowers so I couldn’t detect him. For a moment I could swear it was Saul, but this wasn’t his fighting style. Saul was more calculated, the werewolf in front of me was naive. Powerful, but naive all the same. I could smell human flesh in his claws and fangs, Aurora was just one victim. This wolf has killed before, multiple people. This was all the more reason I had to stop it. She saw me, in my half form. I could see the desperation and fear in her eyes, could hear her screams from rocks. I could sense the terror she felt seeing as I wasn’t human. I shut my eyes, taking one last breath before I opened it again. It would all be explained in due time, right now I needed to keep her safe. This wolf had imprinted on her, meaning it wouldn’t rest until she was dead. I had no intentio

Chapter Twenty-four—The Alpha’s Identity “What do I get in return?” He asked. I shrugged lightly, “I’ll give you the other painting.” “Free?” I hesitated for a moment and then broke a smile, “Yes. I’ll give it— “No,” he shook his head, “How much do you want for it?” I frowned deeply, my sense of pride slowly filing me, “What if I want to sell it for five grand? What will you— “Consider it done.” He said abruptly, “I’ll have a check written by tomorrow.” My eyes widened in disbelief. He really was as rich as I claimed. I gulped hard, my ever prideful self and shook my head, “You can have it. I don’t want your money.” I needed his money. I already quit my job and being an undiscovered artist in such a small town wasn’t enough. Madeline paid me good and with the food scraps I get from the restaurant, I was able to make a living and pay off my parents mortgage on the house. Now I only had my canvas going for myself, his m

  • The Moonlight Affair    Chapter twenty—three—A Mild reunion

Chapter Twenty-three—A mild reunion “Who??” The waiter standing in front of me asked. She wasn’t the blue eyed wonder who sparked passion inside of me, rather a frumpy redhead with the nastiest mole on the side of her neck. I frowned deeply, glancing around for any sign of Alice only to be met with nada. “Aurora,” I murmured, “She works here.” “Yeah I dunno about no Aurora. Started working here today myself.” She responded, her country accent as thick as a bowl of oats. My eyes narrowed. Something was afoot and just as I planned to get up, Madeline, the evil aunt according to Aurora moved outside. I followed her expeditiously till we got to the back of the diner, then she turned around sharply, “You’re here to murder me aren’t you?” I paused, for a moment I was amused at her sudden assumption, “Murder you?? I just want to know where Aurora is.” She scoffed, “You’re definitely the bastard she’s been whoring herself out to huh?
