CHAPTER 3

Chapter 3

Violet POV

Mate? My brows narrowed in confusion. What did he mean by that?

'How did you get out?', his voiced snapped me out of my thoughts, I was to engrossed in myself that I didn’t realize that he was outside with his eyes piercing down at me. He wasn’t too happy.

“Tell me, how did you get out?” he repeated his voice deep and threatening.

“I- I-unable to look at him, I bounced on my heels taking slow steps away from him.

“Do not run.” He warned with a cold glare.

It was too late, my legs were faster than my mouth, I ran. I ran allowing my leg to lead me. . I made a grave mistake, While I was supposed to find a way out I stopped to listen to what he was saying. I turned back for a second to see if he was following me but he wasn’t there, my little race is cut short as I slam hard into a wall.

“Ouh-” strong arms wrapped themselves around me to keep me from falling. My eyes widened in fear and my mouth slightly ajar as I counted my breathing.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he breathed down on me.

“Pleas- just- I just want to go-”

“No!” he snapped at me. “You belong here. You will stay here.”

"Please let me go", I said tearfully. He didn’t listen to any of my pleas and for the second time he carried me up the stairs again.

"I am not the pers- person you want, kindly let me go", I pleaded hoping he would listen but he didn’t instead his brows narrowed when he saw the lock.

You picked the lock.” He said pushing the door opened.

“I’m so- I didn’t mean to-” he placed me down inside with a hard glare. “I just want to go home.” I admitted.

His eyes searched my face as if finding a lie in my confession.

“You will not be going home. You will stay here.” He said firmly. “I won’t allow you go back to that place again.” He turned on his heels and walked towards the door. With his back to me, he said.

“Don’t bother running away. It’s useless.”

This time I knew that he wasn’t bluffing, even with the broken lock I was still trapped in this house with no way to reach out to anyone for help.

Partially blinded by my tears, I curled at the edge of the floor with my knees to my chin and in a few minutes, I was drowned in tiredness and off in sleep.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

The first thing I saw when my eyes opened was the man beside the bed watching me, a man? My eyes widened and out of instincts I shot up from the bed rolling too hard that I crashed to the ground.

“Sh-” I stuffed the curse on my lips and tried to understand my situation. Why was I on the bed? What is going on?

“Good you’re awake. Come down for breakfast.” What? Did he just invite me for breakfast? My eyes didn’t hide my surprise along side my slacked jaws.

Y- you- you’re do- “ I was stunned. Staring at his face, I examined his features properly in the light. His jet black hair was styled neatly and they matched his eyes which were piercing and haunting. His stood on a height of over six feet, and his broad shoulders were clad in a crisp white dress shirt tucked neatly into his pants.

His face was sharp and precise as if sculpted by Michelangelo, it was too much perfection for a man who would abduct the person he saved. He didn’t deserve to look that great.

“Don’t be late.” He said firmly and left me all alone in the room.

By the time I was done cleaning up in the bathroom, my hair tamed and my face void of tears and oil I was ready to face my problem. I noticed the freshly placed cloth on the side of the bed, he must have brought it in earlier. With no other clothing choice I picked up the dress, a purple summer dress that stopped justbelow my knee. It was fair and fit me perfectly.

Taking one last glance at myself in the mirror, I tried to smile to myself. Tried.

The hallway was empty and cold as I walked through it, I worked my way down the stairs just like I remembered taking in details that I hadn’t notified earlier. I was also planning my escape again, nothing he said was going to stop me from trying.

The aroma of fresh bacon and eggs lead me into the open space, the dinning room was wide and had a long glass table with simple black chairs arranged on each side, a total of eight. The table was full of so many type of food, was he expecting guests?

“Good, you’re down. Sit.” He commanded without looking at me. I swallowed not wanting to get on his bad side and pulled out the chair on the other end directly opposite him.

I placed my hands on my thighs avoiding the table, with my eyes downcast as I waited for him to say something.

“Eat.” He demanded and I glanced up at him.

“I’m n-”

“Don’t finish that sentence.” He warned plxing his cutlery down. “Eat, Violet.” The way he said my name made me comply. I surveyed the food in front of me, everything looked familiar and unreal at the same time as if they were printed from a fancy cooking show.

My first bite was heavenly, the best I’ve had in over twenty years.

"How much did you hear yesterday?", he asked gaining my attention. I picked up the water by my side and take a slow gulp.

“I didn’t hear anything.”

“Don’t lie to me.” He growled clutching hard on the napkin in his hand. “What did you hear?” he repeated.

“Why are you keen on finding out what I know- “

“Violet- WHAT DID YOU HEAR?”

“I didn’t hear much- I just well you mentioned that I was your mate, which by the way is the most absurd thing ever. You just can’t rescue a random girl and claim here like a piece of property-” I rambled on.

“Violet.” My mouth snapped shut. “I want you stay here with me.”

What? He wanted me to stay?

“No,”  I remarked lowly. “Why? Is this because I am your ‘mate’” I air quote.

“I want you to stay here because its safe for you.” He ignored my question. What did he mean by safe?  Wasn’t I already in danger being here?

“Safe?”

“Jonathan isn’t the only danger in your life and if you leave this place and go back there, you won’t have to work about your family for they’ll be worrying about you.” He said and my heart skipped a bit. My family?

“Don’t bring my family into this-”

“I wish I could but it’s not me you should be telling that to.” He answered softly. “That’s why I want to make a deal with you.”

“You want me to stay?”

“Yes, sign a contract with me and you’ll be under my protection, your family also.”  A contract?

“How can I trust you? How do I know this is not all your plan?”

“I wouldn’t harm innocent people,” he answered and then his phone rang. He frowned when his eyes crossed the screen, pressing the button he listened.

“What is it?”

“Apparently you were right, her mother was attacked during the early hours of the morning.” The new voice echoed from the speakers.

What? Mum? Was she hurt?

“That’s not all, they made sure that their house was way messier than it is. They’re going hard without considering what they are.” The male voice from the phone said. “We got there before things could get worse. What about the girl has sh-” he ended the call leaving my imagination wild.

"Deal or no deal?", he said staring at me.

“I- I are they okay?” I asked. “Is my mother okay?”

“Yes.”

“What do I have to do?”
