CHAPTER 5

Chapter 5

Violet's POV

“Yes. I’ll do it.” I agreed.

"Well you have to sign a contract.” Those where the words out of his mouth. Contract.

"Can you rephrase your last statement please?" I asked frowning at his choice of words. “What the hell do we need a contract for", I asked more confused than before.

"Well I believe you are not a dunce and you know what a contract is", he said more calmly Thani expected.

“I don’t understand, must we sign a contract to make this valid? Is the words from my mouth not enough validation?", I said after a few seconds of silence.

"Will you sign or not?", he replied harshly ignoring my questions.

"Fine, bring it and let me sign the damn papers", I muttered in clear frustration. When he stood up from his chair with a folder in his hand I tried not to gape at his broad frame, he was intimidating and his aura alluring. He pushed the plates in front of me away creating space for the folder.

“Do you have already typed contracts you give to girls you abduct?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“Sign here.” He ignored me passing the pen to me.

“At least allow me to read it,” I grumbled. He moved back to his side of the table and watched as my eyes skimmed over the words on paper.

1. I must never for once attempt to run away.

2.I can't leave the house without his permission.

3. Only my room, the kitchen and the living room is non restricted to me but every other rooms especially his own room which is directly opposite mine.

4. Bed time is 8pm

The fourth rule almost made me run mad as I looked at him and yelled angrily "Am I a slave here?".

"Well that depends on how you put it. I’ll have to leave you now. Make sure you sign when you’re done reading.” He replied and left me alone to go outside.

I sat down for few minutes and thought hard about the contract, I decided to sign and came across his name written 'ANSEL GREENE' boldly on the contract as a party to the contract and he has signed his part already.

“Ansel.” I read. “Ansel Greene.”

Reluctantly, I signed the contract and he came back in a few seconds later.

“Good, your family is going to be protected at all times.” He grabbed the contract and left me all alone. When I don’t hear him around I decided to explore. I moved towards the kitchen and I marveled at how stocked up it was.

"Are we there more than two in this house?", I asked myself. Why does he have so much food here? That’s what rich people do Violet, some part of my head answered. .

I soon got bored of that and wanted to go out but I thought of Ansel and decided against it, instead I moved up towards my room and I was drawn to a room down the hall.

There are just six rooms in the hallway but I was drawn to the last room by the left.

I placed my hand on the door knob to open it when I saw his hand on mine, I moved back startled manner as I never heard him coming until he got to me.

I turned to face him when he pushed me towards the wall.

“What do you think you’re doing? You’re not meant to snoop around, especially to this side.” He said voice Losw and jaw ticked.

“I did-”  I tried to explain but he was fuming. What was in this room that made him so angry?

“Do not come to this place or try and open the door, it’s off limits.” He voiced making sure I got the message clearly.

"Please Ansel, you are hurting me", I pleaded in a faint manner and he released me from his grip. My chest heaved as beads of sweat  formed around my forehead. When he pulled away from me abruptly my hands tugged up in defensive mood. He didn’t seem to like that either.

“Violet, look at me.” He commanded and I dropped my hands to face him. His eyes weren’t narrowed instead they were soft. “I’m not like your ex-” he said taking another step back with his eyes darting to my wrist. He was being very careful with me.

“I’m not like him.” He repeated.

"Do you understand?", he said disappointed that I thought of him so much of a monster like my ex, if only he knew how much of a monster he is to me, just that he hasn't hit me just yet.

"Never come to this place again and please keep to all the rules and regulations and we won't have any more problems", he finally added.

He pulled me, this time around gently, maybe because he wants to create a good impression that he isn't a monster but I care less as I can't just wait to leave this shithole.

“Come, let’s go.” He said guiding me up to my room. No words where exchanged as we walked, I tucked my hands together chewing on my bottom lips also for comfort.

I could feel his eyes on me as I entered the room, not wanting to look at him I moved towards the windows, the sunlight brushed lightly against the curtains and when I stepped closer they parted opened giving me a clear view of the outside, it was a vast field of plain green grass that trailed off with no other house in sight.

“Violet-” he said softly. “Don’t come out until I come get you.” It was difficult to hold back the tears streaming down my eyes so I nodded instead, afraid my voice would betray me.

His footsteps echoed through the halls and died down along the way, now that I was alone. I sobbed, afraid, alone and uncertain of this my new life. It was foolish of me to put my life and the life of my family in the hands of a stranger, in the hands of Ansel Greene.
