Chapter 5

Henry left after an hour.

"Sam, Henry is a good man. I think it's about time-"

"Mom, here we go again." She doesn't want to hear what her mother was going to say.

"I am not ready yet. And it is better for us to remain friends." She does not want to enter into a serious relationship again. Aside from the fact that she’s still in love with Charles.

"Because you still can't forget Charles?" It was more of a statement rather than a question. Her mom knew it as well.

"Mom, you should rest now. It's already late." She's obviously avoiding the topic.

The next morning, Sam filed a leave to accompany her mother in the hospital. She has no choice as Richard was now graduating from college.

Her phone rang. She picked it up to answer. The caller was from an unknown number.

"Hello?"

"Where are you?" She heard the familiar cold voice of Charles on the other end of the line.

"I accompany my mother in the hospital. Do you need anything, Mr. Davidson?"

"I will just ask for the Financial Statements." He made a perfect excuse. She did not tell the reason for her leave that's why he called her. He was afraid that she ran away again.

"Oh yes. I informed my staff already to bring it to you. It should be there in a few minutes."

"Okay, regards to Auntie." Charles met her mother before. He knew that her mother has a weak body which's why she retired early as soon as Sam started working.

In the CEO's office.

After he hung up the call, the three-year Financial Statements were brought inside by his Secretary.

He was reviewing it but he cannot avoid thinking of Sam.

If Kelly did not come yesterday, he did not know what he could do to Sam. He missed her a lot. She's still Sam with a strong and reserved personality that he knows. He still can't read what was on her mind.

Just like five years ago when he first saw her. He asked her where she was going. She just ignored him. She walked so fast as if avoiding a gangster.

Because of that, he asked their janitor to pretend to be a holdupper.

While Sam was walking down the street, a holdupper suddenly pointed a knife at her back.

"Miss, stop! Give me your bag!" Said the holdupper in a low voice.

Sam was so terrified but she forced herself to calm down. "Are you blind? Did you not see that I am walking to go home because I have no money left to pay for a cab?”

The holdupper was stunned for a while. "Do you think I will believe your lies?"

"S-Sorry, Mr. Holdupper but I really don't have money."  She begged as she was afraid that he might hurt her.

"Hey, what's going on there?" A stern voice was heard. A tall and muscular figure appeared from the dark.

Sam ran abruptly behind the back of the man. She thought that he was her knight in shining armor at that time. The man slightly curved his lips upward.

Upon seeing the man, the holdupper ran so fast. Looking afraid that he might get caught.

However, that was what Charles told him. To run away right after he came.

"Thank you, Mister." She stared at him with her innocent bright eyes that seemed searching deep into his soul.

"It's Charles. Why are you walking alone in the middle of the night? Don't you know that it is not safe especially for a girl like you? Fortunately, you only met a holdupper. What if-"

"I have no choice. You don't know because a rich man like you never experienced to run out of money to pay for a taxi." She exclaimed.

"Is that how you talk to your savior?"

"I'm sorry. I was just telling the truth." She felt embarrassed and lowered her head.

"Okay, where do you live? Let me take you there."

"No need!" She resisted. She does not want as she was afraid that the man was just pretending to be good. She could not trust that easily.

"So what do you want? Walk alone and let those goons follow you? Is that what you want?" He raised his eyebrow.

She shook her head in fear. After she thought of it "Okay, please bring me home Mr. Charles."

"Good. Let's go to my car." They walked towards where the car was parked.

She sat quietly in the car looking outside the window.

"By the way, what's your name?"

Sam just looked at him without replying.

Charles was disappointed. "After I saved you, you don't want to give me even your name?"

"I'm Samantha."

"So you're studying in MSU." He asked after he glanced at her.

"Hmm.. yes." Obviously, she was wearing her school uniform that gave him the idea.

"Just drop me at the next bus stop. Our house is just nearby so it is safe already to walk."

"Okay." After a couple of minutes, they arrived at the bus stop.

"Thank you for the ride and thank you again for saving me earlier. I'll treat you to a meal if we meet again in the future," said Sam. Then, she quickly left without waiting for his reply.

After she entered their house, she let out a deep breath. She did not know why her heart was beating so fast. She thought that she was still afraid of what happened and she almost runs just to get home immediately.

But that night she cannot fall asleep. She still remembers the face of the man who saved her. She could not deny the fact that he's really handsome. He was like a prince charming from her favorite fairytale.

'Is it destiny? If ever we meet again in the future, maybe it is.' She fell asleep with a smile on her face.
