"She hasn't spoken a word since she arrived," Jess says, walking into the room. "Either she's too scared to talk, or she can't."
"Will you have enough masking spray for the both of you?" I ask, curious if we'll have to get more before we leave.
"Yes, I have plenty to make it at least a week for the both of us." She replies. I nod and turn to look at the little girl, knowing I have to explain what's about to happen.
"We are leaving tonight, and we're taking you with us, Okay?" I ask, sure I won't get a response, but to my surprise, she smiles and nods her head. Jess and I look at each other in disbelief before looking back at the adorable little girl.
"Do you have a name?" I ask again, and she shakes her head. I think for a moment, then look at her. "Odett, What about the name Odett?"
"Pretty," She and Jess say in unison.
"Great, Now lay on down and cover-up," I say happily. "Try to get some sleep, we'll be leaving in a few hours."
She lays down, and she's out as soon as her head hits the pillow. I look at Jess as she tucks in our little Odett and smiles.
"We're gonna need a bigger bag to put some stuff for her in too. Ours is packed full." I say, motioning to the full-to-bursting black duffle bag I pulled out of the closet.
"I already have a bag packed with stuff for her and ready to go." She says, as pulls a small bookbag out from under her bunk and smiles at me.
"You're amazing!" I declare as I hug her.
A little after 1 in the morning, I get up and start getting ready. I walk to the bathroom and pull my hair up into a tight bun, pull my oversized black hoodie on, and look in the mirror as I pull the hood up over my head to make sure my bright red hair is covered completely. I find a pair of black leggings and my black beat-up sneakers, pull them on, and make sure I tighten the laces to make sure they won't fly off if I have to run. When I get back to the room, Jess is already dressed and ready to go. I pick up Odett while Jess grabs the bags and a blanket before we quietly walk down the stairs and out the back door that opens up to the wood line.
Once we're far enough into the woods, Jess shifts into Shina. She's a beautiful wolf, but the sounds she makes while shifting terrifies me. When she's done, I place a still sleeping Odett on her back, and I wrap the blanket Jess brought with us around them, making sure she is secure before I tie it. I grab the masking spray out of the duffle bag and spray them down well before placing it back in the bag and tossing them both over my shoulder. I check my watch, and it's 1:56.
"It's 1:56, time to go," I say to Shina. She nods her head to show she's ready, and we make our way to the border.
After walking for a few minutes, Shina stops and quickly jumps behind a huge tree. I follow her lead finding a bush to hide behind. I peek over it and see two guards coming our way. My body goes stiff, and I hold my breath, praying to the Goddess they don't find us. They walk by completely, oblivious to us being here. I look over at Shina behind the tree to see her nod to me, and we start walking again. A couple of minutes later, we make it to the border, and I take Odett off her back and watch as she shifts back to her naked human form.
"Okay, we're gonna have to do this quickly. As soon as I denounce the pack, you'll have to say your name and that you accept Alpha Ians' rejection, I'll shift back while you do that, then you secure Odett on my back, and then we run like hell." She says, and I nod in agreement.
"Okay, I, Jessica Tompson, denounce Alpha Max as my Alpha and the Blue River Pack as my home." She says and nods to me before shifting back to Shina.
"I, Rain, accept Alpha Ian as his mate and Luna of the Blue River Pack," I say as I place Odett back on Shinas' back, tying the blanket securely around Odett and Shina before grabbing our bags, and we run.
After running for about two more hours, Shina stopped to listen for guards that might have been alerted to us crossing the border and coming after us. When she's sure nothing is coming our way, she motions for me to remove a still-sleeping Odett from her back before shifting back to her human form and putting her clothes back on. She takes our bags, and we continue walking for another mile or two before we come to a creek with a beautiful little waterfall. "My father used to bring me here when he was still alive, but I haven't been back since the attack." She says, with pain and longing in her eyes as she relieves those memories. "There's a small cave behind that waterfall we can sleep in for a few hours. No one knows about it but my father and I, so we should be safe." Once we're in the cave, Jess lays down the blanket, and I place Odett on it, and we lay down on either side of her to make sure she gets our body heat and is safe. Then we dose off. I wake up to a strange voi
"I think it's time for us to start walking again, we only have a few more hours till nightfall, and we need to find shelter before it gets dark," I say, and Jess nods in agreement."So, where exactly are we going?" Jess asked as we watch Odett running around playing, making both of us smile."I think we need to head toward New Orleans," Dosha said. "There are many witches there. Maybe one of them could help you with your magic.""Dosha thinks we should go to New Orleans," I answer."Who is Dosha? And why New Orleans?" She asks, looking at me questionably."Dosha is my wolf, and she thinks we'll be able to find a witch in New Orleans that can help me with my magic," I say, turning my head to meet her gaze, not sure if she would believe me. "Oh, and the rings in our eyes are to show that Odette and I are hybrids. Though I'm not sure why they appear and disappear.""Okay, New Orleans it is, then. If I can remember correctly, it should be directly south of us, it will take a few days of
Orians P.O.V. As we follow the trail to the rogue, my mind is preoccupied with thoughts of my newly found mate. The image of her short blond hair and beautiful blue eyes on the verge of tears looking up at me popped into my mind making my chest tighten. "We need to hurry this up quickly and get back to our mate!" My wolf De'von commands. "You didn't even ask her what her name was! Some mate you are." "Yes, master," I reply in a snarky tone. "I just thought it would make her happy if we saved her sister first." "Okay, point taken." He huffs out, and I roll my eyes. At that moment, I smell the blood of rogues, not just one, but multiple. It smells like at least five, if not more. One female wolf wouldn't be able to take on all of them. The panic starts to settle in the pit of my stomach. "Beta!" I heard the scout I sent ahead call out from the top of a nearby hill, and as soon as I met his gaze, I knew something was wrong. The smell of more rogues and more blood
King Zions P.O.V. As I wake up, I link one of the maids for something to eat. After being told it'll be up soon, I decided to get up to shower and get some work done before my beta started complaining about my lack of efficiency regarding boring paperwork. I look at my watch I laid on my nightstand, and I'm shocked to realize it's afternoon. I can't believe Orian let me sleep so long, but I did have a late night. I make my way to my bathroom and take a long hot shower that loosens my tight muscles. After I'm done with my shower, I head to my closet to get dressed with my towel wrapped around my waist. I hear the door open and can hear my mistress Ashleys' wolf purr at the sight of my nearly naked body. I turn to tell her I don't have time to deal with her, only to find her walking up to me while sliding her dress off so that she is naked as well. Before I know it, she's on her knees before me, preparing to please me with her body. She is a very ca
"Sir, the guard outside the prisoner's cell just linked me, letting us know she's awake," Orian says, looking at me to get my reaction. "You handle the interrogation. I'll watch from here." I respond while pointing out the security video I've already pulled up on my computer screen. He shakes his head but bows his head in submission and starts to walk out of my office. As he's walking out, Ashley walks in, shoving past him. He rolls his eyes at her and closes the door. She walks around my desk, lowers herself to her knees between my legs, then tries to unzip my pants. I stop her and tell her she needs to leave my office. "I just want to please you, my King." She says, reaching for my zipper again, still on her knees between my legs. "I said no!" I said, raising my voice to her for the first time. "So it's true, you've found your mate?" She says. "Drop it, Ashley!" I say, not wanting to confirm anything. "Is she better than me?" She asked, looking almost hurt. "I sai
Orians P.O.V. After leaving the ladies to catch up in Rain's room, I walk across the hall to Zions Suite. As I get to the door, I knock and wait for him to call for me to come in before entering and making my way to his suite office to the right of the entrance, hearing giggling and then the sound of a laptop closing. When I get to his office, I sit in the chair across the desk from him with a knowing smile. "What?" Zion says after a moment. "When will you be talking to her yourself instead of getting me to do it or simply watching the security footage? I ask. "What makes you think I've been watching?" He asks. "I heard the same giggling from Rains' room also coming from your office when I walked to your door," I said with amusement laced in my voice. "Is she really your mate?" "I really can't get anything past you, can I?" He laughs. "And yes, it would seem so. Either that or she has put a love bond spell on me. I've been racking my brain, but that's
Zions P.O.V. After watching Orian and Rains' conversation last night, I have a sharp pain in my chest. It started innocently with them talking about Orians' mate. But as he goes to leave her room, she says she wants to leave the kingdom. Does she really want to leave? The thought of her leaving has me panicking slightly. I don't like it! "No, She said she wants to find her true mate!" Ryker says with a huff. "It's not her fault you haven't made yourself known to her. Instead, you want to keep her locked up in a room so she won't discover you are her mate." "You know she's not our real mate. She's not a werewolf. She is a witch. I'm the Alpha King. I can't have a witch as a mate. She can't be the Luna Queen without a wolf. The people would never accept her." I respond. "Then why are you upset that she wants to leave?" He retorts. "Afake bond is still a bond. You know that just as well as I do." I say. "Don't start your shit this early. I didn't get any s
I wake up from a nightmare. I vaguely remember the details. Rogues, witches, vampires, and what I assume are dark elves are attacking Odette and me. I sit up in the bed. And for a second, I almost panic before I realize where I am and that Odett is still asleep beside me. It's so strange because the dream felt so real. I look over to the bedside table and find the small alarm clock. It's 7:47 A.M. I decide to run Odett a warm bath before breakfast. Walking into the bathroom, I see a bottle of bubble bath sitting on the counter, so I pour a little in after starting the water. Once the tub is about halfway, I turn the water off and walk over to the bed to gently wake Odett. "Come on, sweet love. It's time to get up and start your day. I have a nice warm bubble bath ready for you." I say to coax her out of the bed. "Yes, ma'am." She says in such a sweet little voice, and I can't help but smile. She spends about half an hour playing with the bubbles before I get her out. I brus
