Chapter 4

Author: Fierce Sleeping Dog
The security guard twisted my arm harder. "Don't try to scare us. Ms. Zaslow makes the rules around here."

Hearing that, I found it almost laughable.

This university was a place countless students had spent years studying and working themselves to the bone just to earn a spot. It was supposed to be a place that valued knowledge, rules, and fairness.

Since when had a vice president become the law around here?

Harvey walked up to me and slapped my cheek lightly. "Didn't you seem pretty tough a minute ago? Go ahead. Try touching me again."

I turned my head away from his hand. "Harvey, leave yourself a way out. If you're really capable, then stop hiding behind empty threats."

Harvey snatched the cup of coffee John was holding and threw it all over me. The cold, sticky liquid ran through my hair and down my face.

My white shirt was stained with large brown patches instantly.

The crowd gasped. A few people instinctively tried to step forward, but the counsellors stopped them.

Harvey tossed aside the empty paper cup and grinned smugly. "Now we're not wearing matching outfits anymore. Mine still looks better since it's the real thing."

I closed my eyes briefly and wiped the coffee from my eyelashes. "This suit is worth 4.8 million dollars. You'd better be able to afford the damages."

The entire crowd fell silent for a moment. Then, even louder laughter erupted all over.

John was practically doubled over. "4.8 million dollars? You might as well claim it's 48 million dollars for more dramatic effect. The authentic suit Harvey's wearing costs a little over 600 thousand dollars. You think you can charge 4.8 million for a knockoff?"

The materials in my suit were indeed worth only a few hundred thousand dollars. However, the rest of its value came from Anna's original design and craftsmanship. After all, she had announced her retirement three years earlier and stopped accepting private commissions.

Faye's expression darkened as she said with disdain, "You spout nothing but lies. Clearly, you have no sense of decency. If you were truly a student here, we would expel you immediately."

Harvey still wasn't satisfied. He grabbed my collar and yanked it hard. The fabric gave a faint tearing sound. Two buttons popped off. My collarbone became exposed.

Several people nearby gasped. A few of the students instinctively looked away.

I broke free from the security guards and slapped Harvey across the face.

The crisp slap carried through the entire crowd. His head snapped to the side, and five distinct fingerprints quickly appeared on his cheek.

He covered his face and stared at me in disbelief. "You hit me?"

I replied, "That slap was to teach you to respect other people."

He screamed and lunged at me. "I'll kill you!"

I caught his arm and shoved him back. The two bodyguards and the security guards rushed forward at the same time.

Faye shouted furiously, "Hold him down!"

All four men charged me at once. The guards pinned both my arms, and my shoulder slammed hard against the bulletin board beside us.

A shard of broken glass sliced across my arm. Blood immediately spilled from the wound.

When Harvey saw me bleeding, a twisted satisfaction appeared in his eyes. He picked up the stack of cash from the ground and slapped it against my wound.

He seethed, "You bastard! My parents have never even laid a hand on me. How dare you hit me?"

Then, he grabbed my hair and forced my face upward. "Kneel and apologize!"

"Never."

"Then I'll make sure you crawl out of this university today!" Harvey shrieked, raising his dress shoe and stomping hard on the top of my foot.

His hard sole ground against my bone, sending pain shooting through me and bringing a sheen of cold sweat to my forehead.

Harvey pressed, "Will you kneel now?"

"No."

He drove his foot down harder. "Let's see how long you can keep that attitude!"

John grabbed a bucket of red paint from the orientation booth. It was meant for the welcome wall where the art school's freshmen could sign their names on.

John urged, "Harvey, since he loves wearing knockoffs, you should add more color to it to distinguish it from your authentic suit."

Harvey took the bucket and looked at me with a vicious grin. "Last chance. Will you kneel or not?"

I glanced toward the road in the distance. There were only three minutes left until the inauguration ceremony.

I said solemnly, "Harvey, you're going to regret this."

It was 4.8 million dollars, exactly as I'd said.Jetson Group's cash flow had already been tight. Once news of the compensation claim and the canceled projects broke, several banks tightened their credit lines at the same time.Within a month, Jetson Group shares hit their daily limit for several consecutive days. The business partners who had once crowded around the Jetson family began pulling their investments one after another.Olivia called me mo

Before I could respond to Will's words, Harvey broke down first. He screamed, "No! There can only be one sole heir in the Jetson family!"Olivia raised her hand and slapped him again. "Have you not caused enough trouble already? Apologize to Benjamin right now!"Harvey stared at her in disbelief. "Mom, he's the one who got Aunt Faye suspended and cost our family Gerber Group's project. Why do you want me to apologize to him?""Kneel!" Olivia's voice rang out sharply.Half an hour ago, Harvey had forced me to kneel in front of everyone. Now, he was the one being ordered to kneel. He stood frozen in place, and his entire body shook. "I'm not kneeling. I'm your son. He's nothing but a stranger who happens to share your blood!"Olivia raised her hand, but this time she stopped herself. There was little parental anguish in her eyes. Instead, she looked anxious about the project that had just been canceled.Gerber Group's eastern district project could determine whether the Jetson fa

I almost laughed when I heard Olivia's words.I said, "Ten years ago, you gave me five million dollars and told me not to reveal who I really was."Her face fell instantly.Everyone around us perked up their ears.Olivia cut me off in a low voice, "Family matters can wait until we get home. There are too many people here. Don't give outsiders something to gossip about.""I have no family matters to discuss with you, Mrs. Jetson," I said indifferently.Harvey stared at the two of us in confusion. "Mom, who is he?"Olivia didn't answer. He rushed over and grabbed Will's arm. "Are you two hiding something from me?"Will's face had gone pale. He said, "Harvey, just come home with us for now. We'll talk about everything there."Harvey shook Will's arm away and yelled, "No! Tell me right now! Who the hell is he?"Olivia raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face. "Shut up!"Harvey clutched his cheek, completely stunned. "You hit me? You've never hit me before."Tears r

Yara frowned and asked, "Who told you Gerber Group was going to partner with the Jetson family?"Harvey replied, "My mom did."In a dismissive tone, Yara shot back, "Then go home and ask her if she was dreaming."That response caused Harvey to pull a long face.Yara took the documents from her legal team. "Ten minutes ago, Gerber Group terminated its evaluation of every project involving Jetson Group. In addition, we've submitted evidence of Jetson Group's alleged falsification of credentials and violations of bidding regulations to the authorities."Harvey exclaimed, "That's impossible!"Yara sneered, "What's impossible? If your family dared to lay a hand on my teacher, you should have known there would be consequences."After saying that, she looked at me. "Are you satisfied with how I handled it?"I shook my head. "Jolmont University will deal with its own problems."Still wearing Rory's jacket over my shoulders, I walked up to Faye. "You said you were going to expel me. Ar

Everyone's eyes turned toward Harvey. He instinctively covered the hem of his suit.Laughter rippled through the crowd."So he was the one wearing the fake!""He ruined the president's 4.8-million-dollar suit over a knockoff.""And he demanded the other person take off their clothes just now. That's unbelievable.""He's embarrassed himself in front of the entire country."Each remark landed on Harvey like tight slaps across the face. His face flushed as he shouted at the students watching. "What are you laughing at? Nobody's allowed to laugh! The Jetson family donated 30 million dollars to this university. What gives you the right to laugh at me?"I took a document from Rory. "Are you referring to this donation agreement?"Harvey saw Jetson Group's seal and his expression shifted. "So what if it is?"In front of everyone, I tore the agreement in half. The sound of the paper ripping could be heard clearly in the livestream.I announced, "Effective immediately, Jolmont Univers

Everyone's eyes immediately turned toward Faye. Her face went deathly pale, and her lips trembled. She stuttered, "I-It was a misunderstanding. This was all a misunderstanding! I-I didn't know he… I didn't know Mr. Duvall would be coming through the south gate today."I looked at her. "So because you didn't know who I was, you thought it was okay to let them beat me up? If I'd been an ordinary student with no connections, would I have had no choice but to kneel today?"Cold sweat broke out across Faye's forehead. "I received a report saying that an outsider had sneaked onto campus and was causing trouble. I was only trying to maintain order on the first day of classes."I countered, "Does maintaining order require destroying my phone, forcibly searching my bag, ripping my clothes, and making me kneel?"Faye immediately pointed at Herbert. "I never told them to do that! He was acting on his own!"Herbert's legs nearly gave out, and he almost collapsed to the ground. "Ms. Zaslow, b
