Dawn of Dismay

The three wolves turned in unison to face the glowing scarlet eyes, as a medium sized wolf emerged from the middle of the Oak trees, its silver fur standing out in the dark.

“Didn’t you hear me?” the voice of the young wolf bellowed in their minds again, “I said step away from my mother, you filthy creatures!” The Omega shrieked at the wolves encircling Diana.

“This has to be some kind of joke, an Omega pup is here to save the day, quick, act scared.” The Alpha holding a grip on Diana spoke up, “I guess it’s my luck-” The wolf didn’t get to complete, when suddenly, the white wolf lunged forward with blinding speed and lodged its jaws into the Alpha’s free forelimb, earning an anguished growl.

Before the Alpha had time to react, Elio jerked his head with full force to the side, making the Alpha wolf tumble a few feet away, freeing his mother from the painful grip, as he rushed towards her.

Elio nudged the blood-soaked snout of his mother’s golden-brown wolf, lying weakly on the ground.

Diana lowly whimpered, while she raised her tired eyes towards her son’s red ones, she didn’t care one bit about her state, she was only concerned about her pup, who had come here all alone.

The Beta wolf recovered from the shock and jumped at the white wolf from behind, but Elio had already sensed him and turned and slammed his claws right into the Beta’s head, flinging the wolf with all of his might, ramming its body into a tree, with a painful cracking sound.

The Alpha in front, did not dare to approach the freakish Omega, he was shaken to the core to have witnessed the display of raw strength the lowly ranked wolf possessed, he needed to report this to his master right away.

“Akan, Dylan, get up right now, we have to retreat, halt the attack, we need to inform master about this aberrant Omega first.” The Alpha commanded his defeated partners.

All the three wolves disappeared from the woods in a flash, despite being injured, a quality, rogue wolves had developed over the years, they were extremely swift at escaping.

“Cowards!” Elio screamed in the direction the wolves had fled, he was burning with rage, his eyes brimmed with angry tears, as he turned into his human form and scampered back towards his mother, who had turned back to a human too.

“Maa!” Elio gasped, as he fell on his knees beside his mother, taking her head on his lap.

Diana had a large open wound on her right shoulder, which was oozing blood without a stop.

“Elio, my baby, why did you come here?” Diana whispered to her son, while droplets of Elio’s tears fell right on her pale face, the Luna didn’t even have the energy to open her eyes fully, her head was spinning and body was immovable.

“Maa, you’re bleeding so much, what do I do!?” Elio sobbed, his small hands were hovering unsurely over his mother’s face and neck, unable to do anything.

“Help, I need to call someone for help.” The young Omega mumbled to himself, panting heavily, looking around the deserted forest in panic, trying to search for anyone who could come to his aid, he cupped his mother’s face, but froze in place, when he saw Diana’s eyelids fluttering shut.

“Maa, don’t close your eyes, open them, talk to me, Maa!” Elio anxiously wailed, his mother’s body had gone limp, he didn’t have the guts to leave her alone in such a state, he felt utterly helpless.

The Omega burst into fresh tears, when he sensed the sound of paws approaching and a familiar scent hit his nose, a huge, ash grey Alpha wolf was sprinting towards them from afar, making him sob in relief.

As the Alpha neared, he turned back to his human form, and Elio heard Alpha Ryan call out his name, before he collapsed from exhaustion.

The next morning was a mournful one for the Calyx pack, seven pack wolves had lost their lives in the assault that was staged last night, but thankfully their Luna was saved.

The rogues had retreated all of a sudden too, leaving the entire pack in confusion and dismay.

Alpha Stephan Marrok returned to the pack at the crack of dawn, worried to death, when he learned about the events that had unfolded in his absence.

Since this was a rogue attack, the incident was registered under the official jurisdiction of the Werewolf Council and so a few officials, as well as Alpha Fenrys accompanied Stephan to the Calyx.

Elio and Diana were both unconscious in the pack infirmary, when Stephan arrived with the others.

The pack Alpha of the Calyx crumbled on his knees in the doorway itself, when he saw his little family, all broken; Diana was wrapped up in bandages and a cast was put up on her shoulder, while a nurse was placing cold cotton strips on Elio’s forehead, who had been burning with fever since the previous night.

Alpha Fenrys quietly took Stephan’s arm on his shoulder and supported his friend’s weakened frame to stand back up.

Stephan passed Jayden a grateful look, as he tried to get a grip on his emotions.

“Alpha.” Ryan arrived from behind them and bowed towards Stephan, his head was wrapped in a bandage too, with numerous new scars on his hands.

Stephan was aware of how bravely Ryan had fought and handled the attack, he immediately engulfed his trusted friend in a proud and thankful hug.

“I don’t have enough words to thank you, Ryan.” Stephan praised his partner, who passed him a weak smile, there was a look in his eyes that conveyed that he had things to say to him, that had to be kept confidential from the Council.

Stephan gave Ryan an understanding nod as a Council member stepped forward, clearing his throat.

“If the reunion is done, I believe we can proceed with investigation.” The man with a lanky frame and dull blonde hair, spoke up.

“Simon, my wife and son are still unconscious, the entire pack is in chaos and trauma, you have the entire day in hand, please proceed towards the guest lodge and rest for some time, we can start on the investigation after a few hours.” Stephan requested; his voice polite but unwavering.

The man called Simon rolled his eyes, but nevertheless agreed, he knew that the pack Alpha was not going to take no for an answer.

A Beta woman bowed in respect and led the way for the four Council members, towards the guest rooms.

The moment they left Stephan and Jayden turned their attention towards Ryan, who stood with a tense expression on his face.

“What is it that you want to say, Ryan?” Stephan asked his second in command, impatiently.

“The rogues, they retreated abruptly last night,” Ryan began voicing the dreaded conclusion he had come to, after taking all of yesterday’s events into account, “I’m afraid they found out about Elio.”
