Sleepless Night

The Calyx pack members swore to keep Elio’s transformation a secret, when requested by their pack Alpha.

Stephan made sure to keep the vulnerable identity of his Omega son, eclipsed from the rest of the werewolf community for the time being, in accordance to the plan that he had discussed with his friend.

The Alpha did not want to compromise in any form when it came to his family’s safety, he had one son and he was ready to raise hell in his defense, if the need would arise.

Elio was still young and the journey of facing the world had just commenced, he was still learning about his own self, exploring the extent of the unmatched power he was blessed with.

The Omega’s strength was equal to that of a full-grown Alpha at the tender age of twelve and there were mixed reactions from the people of the pack.

The number of friends Elio had, decreased day by day, the cause being his own elder cousin, trying to convince everyone how hostile and tainted he was.

“Even the Omegas don’t want you to play with them, you literally fit in nowhere, Elio.” Ashton kept telling him.

Albeit, the Omega remained unfazed, pertaining to the loyal bonds he had developed with the one or two friends he had, it showed just how insignificant and tactless all of Ashton’s efforts were.

Elio had two best friends, the fifteen-year-old Alpha Alwyn and his thirteen-year-old Omega sister, Maia, they both were the closest people to him after his parents and the trio was always together.

“Don’t pay attention to what that nitwit brother of yours says, he calls himself an Alpha but doesn’t even have the guts to challenge anyone to combat, what a sore loser.” Alwyn spoke and plopped down beside Elio, who was sitting alone on the bench, watching some squirrels play with acorns.

“Yeah Elio, he and his friends are all so dumb, they couldn’t tell the difference between an orange and a sweet lime.” Maia appeared from the other side and took a seat next to Elio as well.

“How many times are you going to repeat this incident, Maia?” Alwyn rolled his eyes at his sister.

“Hey! This is the first time I’m telling Elio.” Maia retorted.

“Okay don’t fight, I know they are dumb and I was sitting here not because I was sulking, but I wanted to look at squirrels play.” Elio intervened before the siblings could argue more.

“I bet Ashton can’t differentiate between squirrels and hamsters either.” Maia said and they all laughed out so loud, the squirrels all ran away.

Elio was grateful for such nice friends, they never let him feel lonely or sad in any situation, always kept goofing around, entertaining him to the fullest.

Nonetheless Elio never stopped missing Adrian, the yearning for the Alpha was plethoric but their promise kept him going; they had sincerely vowed to reunite and then never to be apart.

One dreadful winter evening Alpha Stephan Marrok received an official letter from the Werewolf Council, out of the blue.

The letter disclosed that a series of murders in the northern pack had ensued, at the hands of a nefarious group of rogues and an urgent meeting was called upon for all pack Alphas in the central.

Rogues were the exiled members of the werewolf community and were known to have malicious intent with the obvious thirst for revenge and power.

A decade ago, the Werewolf Council had crumbled under the rogues led by the wanton Alpha Warg, his name itself being a harsh reminder of the death and destruction he had brought upon the werewolf kind in his hunger for power.

Warg was defeated but was successful in escaping the clutches of punishment and justice, nobody ever heard of him in the recent years.

However the fact that rogues were suddenly attacking again again in the open could only mean one thing and it was that the cursed devil, is perhaps making a return.

Alpha Marrok immediately left for the meeting, leaving his younger brother, Alpha Gunther Marrok in charge.

“Maa, is everything okay, Dad looked worried.” Elio asked his mother, as he entered the hall.

Diana was seated on the sofa in one corner of the living room, a pile of clothes that needed to be folded, was lying abandoned on the Oak wood table in front of her.

“Maa?” Elio called again and his mother’s attention finally snapped towards her pup.

“Oh Elio, are you hungry?” Diana asked absently, her mind was in a state of chaos, she had not heard her son come in, nor was she aware Elio’s question was addressed to her.

She was worried for her husband, for her pack, for her son, scared and terrified of all the worst possible things, but she couldn’t show it, she had to be strong, she was the pack Luna, she couldn’t afford the luxury of letting anxiousness get the best of her rationality.

Diana was about to get up from the couch to do something, anything to distract her mind, when she felt soft arms wrapping around her neck and shoulders.

Elio held his mother in a warm embrace, as he climbed into her lap, kissed her cheek and rest her head on his small, but extremely comforting shoulder.

“I’m here Maa, don’t worry, okay?” The Omega cupped his mother’s face and looked into her ever loving eyes.

Diana felt all of her distress wash away instantly as she melted in her baby’s arms, the apple of her eye, the other half of her and Stephan’s heart and soul.

The Luna broke into an adoring smile, when she looked at Elio’s face and showered his plump cheeks with innumerable return kisses.

“Maa, is okay now.” Diana replied gratefully, tightening her hold on her pup.

My son grew up so fast, she thought, slight tears welling up in her eyes, thank you for blessing me with such a beautiful son, she silently thanked the Moon Goddess.

As the night fell, everyone in the pack concluded their activities and retired to their homes.

Lanterns blazed about the house porches and withdrawn silence upheld the moonless sky.

“Alpha Lucifer, we have surrounded the Calyx pack on all sides, we are awaiting your signal.” A subordinate wolf, mind linked to the other wolf on the far corner of the eastern borders of the Calyx pack.

“What do you say master, is now the right time?” The wolf called Lucifer asked his master, who was standing beside him.

They stood miles away from the pack and were the actual culprits who were staging the attack, but were not going to be part of it.

“There actually never is, a right or wrong time Lucifer, it depends on the success of our efforts, however, this is just a mere warning anyway.” The master barked out a baleful laugh, already basking in amusement, at the chain of events that were about to unleash at his command.

“Do not make me wait for too long though, Lucifer, I’m in the mood to enjoy some blood shed tonight.” The master spoke with a malicious glint in his blackish eyes, accompanied by a chuckle.

At the same time back in the Marrok house, Diana felt a bit restless, Elio was lying down beside her, sleeping peacefully, as she kept stroking his brown locks, unable to sleep a wink.

She wondered how Stephan was doing, it had been a few hours since he left for the central, she was guessing her Alpha would have reached by now.

The Luna’s thoughts were interrupted by sudden loud knocks on her door.

Diana put a blanket over Elio’s sleeping body and rushed to open the door, to reveal Alpha Ryan, Stephan’s second in command, with raw panic evident on his usually stoic face.

“Luna, we are under attack.” He spoke.
