Scattering Rays

“How dare that low class, wretched male Omega speak to me in that manner.” Alpha Darius grumbled while stomping through the main gate of the Packhouse of the Calyx.

He was fuming in anger at the insulting behavior of the pack Alpha and his lowborn son, they had the audacity to tell him, who was an extremely respected member of the Council, to leave in such a rude manner, it was absolutely humiliating.

Darius was walking across the field towards the guest lodge, simmering in his thoughts, when he felt someone following him.

The Alpha turned abruptly to face a young black haired Alpha boy, who flinched when Darius had turned all of a sudden.

The older Alpha’s enraged expression transitioned into an irritated one, as he raised his eyebrows questionably towards the timid looking, lanky Alpha boy.

“I wanted to tell you something, mister Darius, my name is Ashton Marrok, the one who is going to be next pack Alpha.” Ashton spoke, trying not to show how scared he was, but his confidence cracked a little bit more when Darius scoffed, as if mocking him.

“Do you have an idea of how pathetically irresolute you sound, boy?” Darius ridiculed Ashton, looking at his dull appearance and the nervous behavior.

“Don’t start judging me right away mister Darius, after you have heard me, I believe you will change your opinions.” Ashton hurriedly spoke, pleading the Alpha; Elio had always been ahead of his older cousin in everything and that kept challenging his pride as an Alpha, but this time, Ashton had found an opportunity to be a step ahead and he was not planning to let it go.

“Alright then, let’s hear what mighty talk you’ve got.” Darius spoke with a smirk, it was not only Ashton seeking an opportunity for revenge, it was him too.

“Not here, mister Darius, if you could be kind enough to follow me to a more secure place.” Ashton said, looking around once to check if anyone was listening.

“Well lead the way then, Alpha boy, I hope this is worth my time.” Darius said, already stepping in behind Ashton.

“Don’t worry about that mister Darius, I can guarantee it is worth it.” Ashton replied, gritting his teeth in joy, as both the Alphas walked towards the deserted field behind Ashton’s house, totally unaware of how a girl had heard their conversation and was now following them stealthily too.

The following winter afternoon was radiant with the light glaze of the sun glimmering across the open fields, as a chilly breeze flew past an open window, bringing in a few scattered petals of cherry blossoms.

It was a perfect day to laze around in the cool, wooden cabin and Alwyn was doing exactly that, the seventeen-year-old Alpha was sprawled on the sofa of the living room in his house, enjoying the smell of fresh bread that his mom was baking in the oven, when his bratty younger sister barged in, suddenly shaking him awake loudly.

“Get up Alwyn, I have something important to tell you!” Maia shook her elder brother’s shoulder, desperately trying to wake him up.

“Please go talk about your amazing fashion sense with someone else, Maia I’m already bored.” Alwyn mumbled sleepily to his sister, changing his sleeping position so his back was now facing Maia, which was a bad idea, because she began hitting his back with her bony fists.

“Alwyn, I’m serious this is about Ashton!” Maia exclaimed, aggressively whispering so that their mom does not hear.

“Ah, what did that moron do now?” Alwyn asked finally giving up on his sleep, sitting up half way and stretching.

“He’s planning revenge on Elio, with Alpha Darius!” Maia exclaimed impatiently, watching how Alwyn’s eyes widened as the information sink in.

“I’m literally going to knock him dead this time, what does he even think of himself, wait, who even is Alpha Darius?” Alwyn asked with a frown and he was rewarded by a smack on the head with the pillow.

“Alpha Darius from the Council!” Maia hissed in disgust, as Alwyn was hit with sudden dread and worry, Ashton could not do anything to Elio on his own, but Alpha Darius was a powerful Council member, this was bad news.

“I heard Alpha Darius say that he is going to include someone directly from the Central to expose Elio’s true identity, Alwyn we need to tell this to the pack Alpha.” Maia said anxiously.

“No, Maia, the Alpha and Luna have already gone through so much after the attack, we can’t burden them with this too.” Alwyn gritted his teeth, while running a hand through his light-brown hair in frustration, thinking deeply.

“Oh, I know who we can talk about this to,” Alwyn jerked upright hopefully, as an idea crossed his mind.

“Who?” Maia asked with a confused frown.

“Alpha Ryan, he will surely know what to do.” Alwyn said and his sister smiled and gave him a positive nod.

The siblings at once hurried to Alpha Ryan’s cabin and told him the whole story.

“I should have known that prejudiced rascal was up to something.” Alpha Ryan mumbled in outrage, pinching the bridge of his nose, as the two siblings seated across from him exchanged worried glances.

“But don’t worry, I have an idea of who this individual from the Central, Darius is trying to include, however powerful his position is, Darius cannot do anything directly, he’s just a member of the Council.” Alpha Ryan explained confidently.

“Then the person from the Central that he’s going to call, can he do something?” Maia asked inquisitively.

“He’s troublesome, but not very harmful, just another prideful Alpha who thinks unnecessarily highly of his status and himself, he’s the son of the head of the Central pack Cypress, he might be the same age as you.” Alpha Ryan gestured towards Alwyn.

“He is still young but he uses his father’s position as a pass to poke his nose in everything, from official affairs to personal pack matters.” Ryan rolled his eyes at just the thought of the prideful Alpha from the Cypress.

"Nobody can harm Elio in any way as long as me and Alpha Stephan are around, alright? So you kids don't worry, leave these stupid politics to us." The Alpha reassured, with a smile.

Both Maia and Alwyn exhaled a sigh and thanked Alpha Ryan for all his help, they decided that all the three of them together will deal with that stingy Alpha whenever he shows up.

On that note the siblings headed towards the training fields to look for Elio.

They found the Omega sitting on the wooden bench with a serious frown on his face, thinking so deeply about something that he didn’t even notice his friends approaching.

“Whose thoughts are you lost in, Elio?” Alwyn teased, while both the siblings settled down beside the Omega and put their heads on his shoulders.

Elio chuckled lightly and snuggled in the embrace of his friends, seeking warmth in the chilly evening.

“I spoke to my dad about the urgent meeting they had in the central, the Spruce pack was attacked by rogues last week and they killed a few Alphas and Betas and abducted two Omegas.” Elio began speaking in a grave tone.

“Abducted Omegas!?” Maia gasped in horror.

“Yes, the pack Alpha of the Spruce had fallen sick last month and his health has been deteriorating ever since, they had even sent a letter to the Central a few days prior, saying that their pack was not in good condition and they need assistance from them, but no reply came from the Cypress.” Elio continued.

“That is so unfortunate, before the reply could even come, they were attacked.” Maia expressed sadly and Alwyn hummed in agreement.

“There’s one thing that is disturbing me though, the Centre called in a meeting for pack Alphas the exact same day we were attacked by rogues too.” Elio voiced his troubled thoughts as both his friends realized, what the Omega actually meant.

“Both times the absence of leadership of the pack Alpha was taken advantage of, Elio are you really thinking what I am thinking?” Alwyn looked at Elio, uncertain fear rising in his chest at what conclusion this was leading them too.

“I know I’m making a reckless assumption here, but I suspect there is someone in the Central who is helping the rogues.” Elio confirmed.
