POV Eric Pulling up to the house cars lined the driveway and half a block in either direction. Some I recognized but most I didn’t. “How many elders are there?” I asked Alpha Aiden. “There is five who hold places on the board but twenty total. Luna called everyone together for ideas and to make sure the whole pack understands the situation we could be putting ourselves in.” He replied. No sooner had we gotten out of the car then Miss Evens approached us. “I have information on the pendant but you aren’t going to like it. Can we speak in private before the meeting?” She walked in the house and headed for the office before even getting a response. I went to head upstairs but Alpha Aiden grabbed my attention and motioned for me to follow them. In the office Miss Evens had already spread out several books across the desk in preparation. Miss Evens has never been a cheerful person but when she turned to face us her expression was more grim than usual. “You’ve figured out what p
POV Unknown A faint rhythmic beeping soothes my ears the soft sound almost in harmony with Sel snoring. If she’s sleeping we must be safe. I try to stretch my arms only to find I can’t move. Opening my eyes I see something soft across my chest looking down further they are on my wrists, waist, hips and legs as well. A woman with wild hair and peach colored scrubs walks through the door. She doesn’t look up, she’s reading something in her hands. Ear buds in she’s bobbing her head like she’s listening to music. I lay perfectly still and try to wake Sel who just grumbles and goes back to snoring. Finally the woman looks up, quickly dropping the papers in her hand at the foot of the bed and snatching the ear buds out. “You’re awake?” The tone of her voice calm and nurturing and a little surprised. “Please don’t hurt me.” I pleaded. Pushing as hard as I could to crawl up the bed and away from her but the restraints are to tight. Squirming and wiggling, I can’t get loose. She rai
POV Aiden Although I doubted Eric’s readiness to take on Alpha responsibilities he needed to be ready. This whole situation could blow up and escalate quickly. Omaha Gaven has always been a thorn in my side and his presence on the board irritated me. His only reason for being there is his age, being over one hundred years old he is a pack elder. Holding no special knowledge or area of expertise he stood up to speak purely on his own self worth. “Alpha, you can’t be serious.” He whinnied looking around the room for back up from the others. I knew he would be a problem, he is without fail driven to question my decisions. When Eric takes over I will gladly take his spot on the council. “So far Alpha Eric has undergone his first shift, ran patrols four nights in a row and saved the life of a young pup. What have you accomplished this week Omega Gaven?” I stood my ground. Ready to make my case to any who would doubt my decision. Looking around the room, much to my surprise, not o
POV Eric “I can not believe I told off Omega Gavin.” I told Braxton as we rode in the car with Darien back to the house. “Sounds like someone should have a lot sooner, he’s a pompous little jerk. Why does your father put up with him?” Braxton asked. “We don’t really have a choice. He holds an elder seat on the board. When I take my place as Alpha, Dad can choose to take his place but otherwise we are stuck with him. Unless he’s removed for some reason. Besides being a jerk he’s never done anything to jeopardize his spot.” I answered. “I feel like being a jerk should be enough.” Braxton laughed. “Besides you are the next Alpha it’s time you start acting like one.” “Yes, yes I know. You pressured me into volunteering to speak with Alpha Donte. You better not chicken out when it comes time to talk to him.” I said jokingly. I had to hand it to him, Braxton is fearless and completely void of thinking of the consequences. I’ve always known that a wolf brought strength but I always i
POV Joann I was relieved the meeting was over, although what Miss Evens had said was unsettling. I was nervous for Eric, I know what Aiden was thinking but have admit I was not ready for Eric to volunteer to go speak with Alpha Donte. Once the announcement was made we couldn’t say anything, couldn’t make it look like we doubted the decision in any way. Hopeful that visiting the girl would make me feel better about today’s events I headed straight there. Finding Candice in the small office at the front listening to music as she went over paperwork. The Isaacs being here made me indescribably happy. Candice is proof that not all humans will run in fear at the knowledge of our existence. I am fully aware that we can’t just make our presence known to the world but I firmly believe we are not higher beings meant to rule humans. Nor do we have to hide away because they can not handle knowing what else is out there. Candice greeted me with a smile. “How’s our little patient doing?” I
POV JoannI reached out for Aiden he pulled me in while talking to what felt like twenty others in the pack. “Get two groups of ten men headed for Blue Lagoon territory now! Darien is dead.”One of the members asked. “What about Alpha Eric?”“Nothing yet, he could be hurt or unconscious. That’s why we need to hurry.”Aiden cut the link with everyone but me. “I’m sorry honey.” I told him.“He was a great warrior; he served our pack with pride, and we will honor his memory once Eric is found.” He replied in a cold tone.I understood, he needed to focus on finding our son. Grieving for his brother would unfortunately have to wait.Thea startled me, reaching her small hand out and placing her palm on my cheek. “Are you ok?” She asked. Her eyes held wisdom that her years did not, but I couldn’t concern her with what’s happening. “Yes, I’m fine.” I lied. Excusing myself.Candice caught up to me in the hallway. “What’s going on Luna? You looked pained and your face lost all color.”“Darien ju
Blue Lagoon ManorAs vehicles approached what little moon light there was became blacked out by clouds. Beta Darien’s car sat up the road from the broken gates. The group stopped and checked the car for any signs, only to find Darien’s phone left on the driver seat. The ominous feel of the headlights hitting a perfectly clean parked car sitting in front of the manor. Grass overgrown, front windows broke and bits of glass glistening in the bushes next to the house when truck lights hit them. The single occupant of the manor sitting patiently in the study. A small fire burning in the fireplace. Absent mindedly stirring the dark red liquid in his coffee cup. Fully aware of the caravan's arrival. He laid in waiting, admiring his handy work as Beta Darien’s severed head rest on the mantle of the fireplace. Sipping the blood of an Alphas son his trap already set. Surly the rescue party would have no trouble finding him as he left a trail of body parts for them to follow. Smiling to himself a
POV JoannGrace and I watch in horror as the Lycan reached Thea’s room before us. Miss Evens had closed the gap, but I couldn’t help wondering what exactly our tiny schoolteacher intended to do against this beast. It stood easily twice as tall as her and outweighed her by a minimum of two hundred pounds.Without an ounce of hesitation Miss Evens started to shift. The sight causing Grave to slide to a stop. Watching in stunned disbelief as her clothes ripped, her body growing, and brownish red fur covered her body. Neither Grace nor I could rap our minds around what we were seeing. Miss Evens transformed into a giant Lycan; half again as big as the monstrosity we were chasing. Her claws digging into the other's shoulders, I could hear his collar bone snapping. She flung him into the room across the hall before bounding after. The sound of claws on tile, light fixtures and furniture breaking. The building shook as they threw each other against the walls. My heart pounding, Grace and I fr
