After we get over our shock, the two of us ran to each other and embrace. I can’t believe I’m hugging my mother. Her scent is amazing to smell again. My heart swells with the joy of seeing her again. Once we arrived at the capitol, everything went crazy. I had a guard I trust who I know is loyal to me, watching over Nadia while I attended to business. Come tomorrow, she will be allowed to attend meetings and such with me, but until she is announced, I can’t bring her. The first thing I did was drop off Nadia’s paperwork that says she is free. As Maddox and I head down to the ball, I take as many deep breaths as possible to calm my frying nerves. It’s time to be introduced as Maddox’s mate. I’m terrified that the higher-ranking wolves are going to eat me alive. I know I studied, but I’m not sure it’s enough to pull off sophistication. I stand by the door of the bathroom. I’m nervous to leave Nadia on her own. Not that she can’t handle herself, I know she feels out of her element. I wake up to Maddox’s strong arms wrapped around me. I sigh, content that I’m with my mate. Last night it was so nice being out in public with Maddox. I was nervous, but it felt good to not hide. Everyone knows I’m Maddox’s mate, including his family. I thought for sure they would make a scene at the ball, but they didn’t. I’m having breakfast with Nadia and her mom. Nadia is beaming, and I’m happy that she has found her mom. I hope to help them find her father, but if he had let anyone know about his lycan heritage, he would have been killed. The chances that he survived are slim. Male rogue slaves tend to be killed within the first few years of servitude for one reason or another. They are assigned hard and tedious work. They are often used as training dummies for the warriors of the pack and sustain severe injuries. The females are different.
