CHAPTER 21: PROM DATE

CHARLOTTE'S POV

I didn’t think a prom venue could look this intense.

The ballroom lights glowed soft gold, bouncing off the marble floor like the place was wrapped in warm foil.

A huge chandelier sparkled above everyone’s heads. The DJ had already started playing music loud enough to shake the decorations on the tables. People took photos near the flower wall, laughing, shouting, posing like this was the last night of humanity.

And I was standing near the entrance looki

CHAPTER 55: THE JANITOR CAN KISS?CHARLOTTE'S POV “Oh my—I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt anything going on!” I blurted out immediately, hands flying to my mouth. My heart was thudding so hard I thought it might burst through my ribs.Maya’s hand found mine instinctively, squeezing for reassurance, but even she looked just as stunned. The scene in front of us froze me in place. The other janitor Henderson was crouched next to a student in Year 9. Her shirt was unbuttoned, and she was fumbling with it, trying to fix it. “Oh my gosh!” I muttered, stepping backward as my brain scrambled. “I—I thought…” I couldn’t even finish the sentence. My stomach was doing that twisting thing again.Maya’s eyebrows shot up, and she leaned closer, whispering, “Uh… that looks weird"“Yeah, obviously…” I whispered back, my voice squeaky. My mind was racing through every possible explanation, none of which made me feel less mortified. I wanted to vanish into the walls but my curiosity, morbid a

CHAPTER 54: JANITORS OFFICE CHARLOTTE'S POV The look on Maya's face was so surprising wasn't she the one that asked to meet at the janitors office?I sat a bit straighter resting my back on the wall properly.“Charlotte, I never said anything about the janitors office, you're funny”“ No I swear you did, yo..you sent me this message” I ransacked my bag for my phone on the floor and showed her “ I don't still know why you used a different number, we're you trying to scare me or something?” A little laugh escaped “I swear that isn't me” Maya said confusion written all over her face “ Umm are you sure?or is this is some kind of prank cause I said Im Sorry already”“ Girl I'm as confused as you are, who the hell would want to take all your pain away in the janitors office” grabbing my phone from my hand reading the message repeatedly “ you're crazy if you think I'm letting you do anywhere” I stared at Maya like she had just sprouted wings and flew out the ceiling.“Wait, so you're

  • The Rules Of Kissing Girls    CHAPTER 53: I MISS YOU

CHAPTER 53: I MISS YOU MAYA'S POV I didn’t breathe the entire time Charlotte was screaming. Not when the jar shattered, not when the candles toppled. Not even when she yelled the sentence that cracked something quietly, painfully, inside my chest.“I’m sorry I kissed your girlfriend even though she’s the one that forced me!”Everybody gasped, except me.I didn’t make a sound.Like my body didn’t get the memo that the world was falling apart.Because I knew,I knew what Charlotte didn’t:Sienna lies when she’s scared. And Charlotte?Charlotte believes people too easily. But the second I saw Charlotte’s eyes—wild, red, broken and honestly I wasn’t the one who sent that message.I swear I didn’t write it.The first two?Fine, Okay. Whatever.I admit it I got petty, I got dramatic, my pride was bruised and my heart was cracked. So yes, I wrote those. But this last one wasn't me ?The meeting ended with everyone pretending they weren’t staring at me and Charlotte like they were watching a

CHAPTER 52: THE SECRET SATURDAY CHARLOTTE'S POV I stared at the message on my phone again.“First Saturday before Oaksman. You know what to do. Don’t be late!”No sender, no exexplanation. Just a reminder.I blinked then blinked again. My brain refused to connect the dots at first.“First Saturday before Oaksman…” I muttered under my breath. “That’s… a yearly thing. Right? The yearly secret meeting. The one I’d joined in my junior year, the moment I became popular, before life went sideways, before Sienna and Maya and everything exploded. A stupid, pointless tradition nobody else would understand. But somehow, I’d always remembered and somehow, apparently, I was still on the list.My first reaction? Absolutely not. No way in hell. I didn’t want to go. Not today, not when my life is a mess.____________________________________Waking up with your room looking exactly like your life is crazy, I reached out for my phone and what? How is it 5 o'clock already? and I barely slept .I

  • The Rules Of Kissing Girls    CHAPTER 51: NEW BESTFRIEND?

CHAPTER 51: NEW BEST FRIEND?CHARLOTTE'S POV I walked into school with my head lowered so far I might as well have been studying the floor tiles. Yesterday felt like a fever dream except it wasn’t. It happened, every painful, humiliating second of it.And life? Oh, life didn’t even give me a grace period. The moment I stepped through the main doors, I saw her.Sienna, walking past me like she wasn’t the one who kissed me, confessed to liking me, and detonated my entire life in under three minutes. She even had the audacity to smile at someone by the lockers.Like she didn’t spend yesterday making my best friend sob on her patio.I almost laughed, no, actually, I did laugh. A short, borderline hysterical puff of air. Then it got worse.Because Maya appeared, and she didn’t even look in my direction, not even once. Her rainbow crew clustered around her the LGBTQ alliance but somehow always chaotic group. They were laughing loudly, swinging bags, talking like life was sunshine and roses

  • The Rules Of Kissing Girls    CHAPTER 50: INVINCIBLE ME

CHAPTER 50 : INVINCIBLE MEAMBER'S POVI didn’t expect Charlotte to open the door that fast.Honestly, I thought I had another full minute. Maybe two. That’s the thing about quiet people: everyone believes they move slowly, think slowly, and react slowly. It’s cute, adorable, even.People really think loud mouths are the dangerous ones. They forget quiet people have hands too.Charlotte’s eyes locked onto mine the second the door swung open, and for half a heartbeat, I wondered if she could hear how aggressive my heartbeat was.She looked wrecked with red eyes, messy hair, and breathing unevenly.Perfect timing, really.I tilted my head and softened my voice.“Oh I’m so sorry. I was looking for the restroom.”My voice came out small, timid, sweet.Exactly how people expected me to sound.Charlotte blinked, startled. “Oh uh Amber, right?”There it was. That flicker. That confused little spark of who the hell are you again?A familiar sting pulsed in my chest. Not painful.Just predict
