CHAPTER 21: PROM DATE

CHARLOTTE'S POV

I didn’t think a prom venue could look this intense.

The ballroom lights glowed soft gold, bouncing off the marble floor like the place was wrapped in warm foil.

A huge chandelier sparkled above everyone’s heads. The DJ had already started playing music loud enough to shake the decorations on the tables. People took photos near the flower wall, laughing, shouting, posing like this was the last night of humanity.

And I was standing near the entrance looki

  • The Rules Of Kissing Girls    PROM KING AND QUEEN

CHAPTER 23 : PROM KING AND QUEEN MAX'S POVI left the ballroom the second my message to Sophie was delivered. My chest felt tight in a way I couldn’t ignore and every step down the hallway echoed like something was chasing me. The music behind me shifted from slow to loud, but none of it mattered. All I could think about was the weight of what I had just promised Charlotte, the way her face softened when she believed me, and the sharp sting of guilt still sitting behind my ribs.I needed answers, I needed Sophie to tell me why she messaged me asking to talk right after everything blew up. The timing felt wrong. Very wrong. What could she possibly want from me? And now my mind wouldn’t shut up until I heard something that made sense.I turned the corner, expecting to see Sophie leaning against the wall or adjusting her hair in the mirror, or something maybe Instead, nothing. Just an empty hallway, cold lights, and that faint smell of perfume from a group that probably passed earlier.

  • The Rules Of Kissing Girls    DAY MARE

CHAPTER 22: Day MareMAX’S POVCharlotte stood under the dim lights outside the ballroom, the glow turning her dress soft gold. She looked nervous, tired, more gorgeous and a little distant. I hated that look and most of all, I hated that I caused it.I texted her twice but still no response, I watched her for a little longer and then I sent the last one “We need to talk. I'm sorry, where are you?” I asked. She didn’t move at first and then her fingers tapped the side of her phone like she was unsure if she should reply or not then she switched off her phone slowly. What exactly did I do wrong? Ughhh I ran my hands through my hair and walked into the hallway.I watched her stand beside Sophie. Should I walk up to them? What exactly were they going to talk about?Arghhhh!!!!Tapping my feet nervously, I matched into the hall and grabbed Charlotte holding her tight in her waist “Please can we just talk, km sorry please” I whispered into her ears, holding her even more tightly We walk

A huge chandelier sparkled above everyone’s heads. The DJ had already started playing music loud enough to shake the decorations on the tables. People took photos near the flower wall, laughing, shouting, posing like this was the last night of humanity. And I was standing near the entrance looking lost but trying really hard not to look lost.Maya and I arrived together, but the moment she saw Jayden standing by the drink table, she practically teleported. She mumbled something about “finding tissues” and vanished before I could blink, typical Maya.I scanned the room, Olivia stood on the far side, talking to two girls from her class. She wore a pale blue dress that matched the soft lights above us. She caught my eye and waved, sweet and simple.I smiled back and walked toward her, ev

CHAPTER 20: Prom Dress And Lip Gloss Charlotte's Pov The boutique smelled like vanilla, roses, and new fabric, a combination that made my chest tighten with excitement and anxiety at the same time. The floor gleamed polished wood, reflecting the rows of glittering dresses that hung like jewels on golden racks. I tugged my bag strap higher, glancing at Maya beside meShe was already scanning the racks, frowning slightly as if each dress held a secret she had to solve. She picked a yellow floral dress and held it onto her body “ Do you think this colour goes well with my skin tone”? “Do you think Jayden’s serious about asking me?” she murmured, holding a shimmering turquoise gown against her chest. Her eyes darted toward a mirror, analyzing her reflection, Maya has always had beautiful features.“Hmm,” I said noncommittally, running a hand along a sequined black dress. “If he is, you’ll know or not because boys are confusing.”Maya rolled her eyes, biting her lip. “I just… I don’t k

  • The Rules Of Kissing Girls    CHAPTER 19 : BOOK CLUB

CHAPTER 19 :Book clubCharlotte's POV I checked my phone five times in a span of three seconds. At this point, even the phone should’ve filed a complaint. When would she reply? Why was Sophie suddenly the slowest texter alive? Why didn’t life come with a crying emoji you could physically throw like a grenade?Ding ding.I sprinted toward my phone so fast I nearly wiped out on the welcome mat. I grabbed it, already smiling like an unhinged clown, ready to see Sophie’s name on my screen.Still nothing! Nothing at all, not even a full stop, arghhhh!!!!Just a stupid message from Maya asking, “Have you seen my left earphone? Just the left one???”I let the phone flop onto my bed like it had betrayed me. Are you kidding me? I muttered at the ceiling. Why is Sophie slow? She texts like she’s being held hostage by her own thumbs. Not like I cared, I obviously didn't.Maya poked her head into my room. “You ready? We’re gonna be late.”“Oh, right book club.”The weekly meeting where everyone

  • The Rules Of Kissing Girls    CHAPTER 18: UNUSUAL MONDAY

CHAPTER 18: Unusual Monday Charlotte's POV I knew something was off the moment I woke up.It wasn’t the usual Monday dread. It wasn’t even the guilt still hanging over me from the prom date incident. It was something heavier, like the air itself was watching me, waiting for me to mess up again.I jumped right out of my bed, pulled down my night gown and grabbed my towel.Another miserable day, why can't it be December already. The whispers started the moment I stepped into school. Not the careless, silly kind you can easily brush off. These were pointed, quick glances, Interrupted conversations and people pretending not to stare when I looked back.Maya rushed toward me the second she spotted me by the lockers.“There you are,” she said, eyes wide. “Are you seriously okay? You’ve been moving weird all morning and last week? Girl, you were basically malfunctioning.”I forced a tiny laugh. “I’m fine.”“You are absolutely not fine,” she said, folding her arms. “Charlotte, you asked the
