SKY

I take one last look in the mirror, studying the messy bun I learned to do from a video online. It isn't perfect, but it will have to do for tonight. My fingers smooth the soft fabric of my midnight-blue dress - the one I bought with months of tips and savings from Jersey Store, the small café where I've worked for years. Every coin I've saved went into this dress, though if I could trade it for a real friend in the pack, I would in a heartbeat.

My green eyes shimmer under the faint light, that same emerald glow that never seems to dull, even when I'm hurting inside. A little makeup makes my pale skin glow, and I swipe a clear gloss over my lips before stepping out into the night air. My heels click softly as I cross the courtyard toward the Silver Moon Pack hall, my pulse quickening with each step.

The hall is draped with silver and blue streamers that shimmer under the light. Wolves of all ranks fill the room, laughing, talking, waiting. My heart races as I step inside. Nobody turns to look at me. That's fine. I prefer it that way. I lift my dress slightly to avoid tripping and quietly take in my surroundings.

Tonight is the night of my first shift. Midnight will mark my change, the moment when I'll finally become one of them - a full wolf. But the stories I've heard make my stomach twist.

"I thought my bones were going to break."

"My wolf was so big, I didn't even recognize myself."

"I couldn't stop craving meat afterward."

Their words replay in my head. I've never seen a shift before, only heard the sounds. The cracking. The screaming. I grip the edge of the table, my mind fogging. Where's Lamen? Why do I keep thinking about him? His name echoes in my head again and again until I can barely breathe. My chest tightens. The air feels heavy. My skin burns, and the heat spreads until I feel like I'm on fire.

"Happy birthday, Sky. Good luck with your first shift. Would you like some punch?"

Susan's voice startles me. She smiles politely, but her eyes are dull and lifeless. I manage a small nod, clutching my throat.

"Does it have alcohol in it?" I ask, my voice trembling higher than I intend.

"Oh yes," she says, almost amused. "You're going to need it. The change is already starting."

Sweat drips down my temple. The room suddenly feels smaller. Then I feel it - that familiar, powerful presence. My heart stutters. Lamen. He's here.

I turn just as he walks in, dressed entirely in black. The sight of him steals the air from my lungs. His movements are strong and sure, every step filled with confidence.

That same dark energy rolls off him, pulling me in like a magnet. My body reacts before my mind can catch up, heat pooling low in my stomach. I silently beg the Moon God to stop this from happening. Please, don't let Lamen be my true mate. Anyone but him.

But it's too late. Every breath he takes matches mine. I can feel his heartbeat syncing with my own. Faster. Harder. Closer.

He stops just inches from me, his breath brushing against my face. My cheeks burn. I probably look a mess. Without a word, he pulls a tissue from his pocket and gently wipes the sweat from my forehead. The gesture makes my stomach twist in confusion. The room fades away - it's just him and me.

Susan hands me the punch, but my focus stays locked on him. I take a shaky sip, hoping he'll walk away. He doesn't.

"Don't run from me," he murmurs, voice low and rough. "It's you. You're my mate. I can feel it. I can smell it from my house."

My breath catches. "Wha-what are you talking about?" I whisper, clinging to denial.

"You know what I'm talking about," he says softly. "I won't hurt you anymore. Not now that I know you're mine. We should talk somewhere private."

The alcohol burns down my throat, giving me false courage. "Forget it, Lamen," I manage to say. "I'm not going anywhere with you."

For a moment, his face softens, the cold edge fading. "I don't hate you," he says, his tone raw. "I've always wanted you. Liked you."

He reaches for my hand, his fingers wrapping around mine. My body betrays me, trembling under his touch. I notice the curve of his lips, the warmth in his eyes that wasn't there before.

"You have a funny way of showing it," I whisper.

"Let's talk," he insists. "You look beautiful, Sky. I want to make things right. For everything I've done."

There's pain in his voice, maybe even regret. I want to believe him, but my heart is racing too fast to think clearly. My body feels drawn to him - a magnetic pull I can't explain. Then, before I can stop myself, his lips find mine.

The world falls away. His mouth is warm, hungry. My arms wrap around his neck, his hands tracing my waist. The kiss deepens, stealing the air from my lungs. I lose myself in it, until reality crashes back in.

I pull away, dazed. The room spins. "Wait-you have a girlfriend. Aria. What about her?"

He shakes his head, eyes locked on mine. "Don't worry about her. You're my true mate, Sky. I'm sorry for everything." He kisses my hands tenderly. My mind screams no, but my body aches yes.

Then the microphone crackles. My father, Lucien Silver, stands on the stage with a glass in his hand, smiling at the crowd.

"Well, it looks like we have ourselves a mate bond," he announces. "Lamen, am I right?"

Lamen gives a slow nod, still holding my hand. My voice catches in my throat. I can't speak.

The room erupts in whispers. Aria stands near the front, her cream dress glowing under the lights, her expression twisted with rage. My stomach sinks. I'm trapped in a nightmare I can't wake from.

Lucien lifts his glass. "Then it's settled. With the sealing of a kiss, we have a new mate pair. A mating ceremony will be arranged at once!"

The crowd murmurs, some disapproving, others stunned. My head spins. My heart pounds so hard I can barely breathe.

This night was supposed to mark my first shift - a moment of pride. Instead, it's turned into chaos. And I have no idea how to escape it.

SKYHow? How can I lift Damien’s bike into the air? I need to find out why I can do the things I can. My emotions seem to be the trigger. I was so angry with Damien that, without even touching it, I made his bike rise off the ground with my mind. The whole wind-control thing, though, still needs work. As I walk away, I think about asking Kiana to help me train. She’s the only one I trust enough to explore whatever is happening to me.I stomp off from Damien, my chest tight. He dropped me just like everyone else always does. I shouldn’t care, but I do. Maybe it’s my fault for expecting more from someone like him. Damien Rock isn’t exactly boyfriend material.I have class, but I can’t focus, my thoughts bouncing around like loose marbles. So instead, I head to the cafeteria, grab a drink, and sit under the big oak tree outside. That’s where I make the call.Lucien Silver has the answers. He can’t hide the truth from me anymore. I’m his daughter, and once upon a time, whether he admits i

DAMIEN “Would it have made any difference?” I ask her, my voice calm even though my mind isn’t.“Probably not,” Sky says softly. “I like your wolf; it’s kind of cute. But if your pack comes back here with your crew, they’ll die, you know that, right? They’re a bunch of wimps. Why is Lamen after you anyway? You don’t have very loyal pack mates.”Her lip curls, not in anger but in something almost sweet. I shouldn’t enjoy her attitude as much as I do, but I do. The sight of her glaring at me makes me want to pull her close and silence her in a way I shouldn’t.“He rejected me,” she says suddenly, her voice cracking. “I’m his mate. He’s been tracking me since I got here—trying to kill me. Long story.”I shake my head. “He’s a lousy guy all around. He can’t even fight. You can tell him that from me. Maybe you should stay away from me until he learns how. Doesn’t look too good for us to be seen together, does it?”Truth is, I’ve got no plans to stay away from her. But teasing her? That I

DAMIEN A Silver Moon Hunter. And a damn gorgeous one too—undercover, no less. I should’ve known better than to touch her. I’ve never been good with women, not after what happens to them when they get too close. What happened to Jacinta wasn’t my fault. She got too curious, digging into things she shouldn’t have.I ride back home after the fight, my face still stinging from the blows. My head is buzzing with questions, too many to count. Why would a Silver Moon Hunter turn against her own pack? Was that the same man she was running from the week before? And that necklace she wears—bright and glowing like moonlight—it’s not normal. There’s power in it. I saw two wolves hesitate to attack her because of it. That thing could stop a full pack in their tracks.I’m still furious, but my body betrays me, burning hot from what almost happened against that wall. I kill the engine of my bike and just sit there for a moment, frustrated that I didn’t take it further. My fingers still smell like h

SKYI touch it gently before slipping it back under my shirt — my little talisman, my reminder of who I am. I pull on my pants and a clean shirt, my thoughts racing. I can’t keep hiding. I have to confront him.My mind runs through every possible scenario. I could call campus security, but what good would that do? Lamen and his pack would destroy them before they even arrived. Everyone knows they’re useless anyway. No, this is something I have to handle myself.“Sky! Come out here!” His voice cuts through the night like a blade. “Did you think I wouldn’t find you, mate? Risen from the dead, huh? I don’t think so.”His mocking tone sends a chill down my spine. I wince, praying the rest of the dorm doesn’t wake up and report me. The last thing I need is to get kicked out. I have to draw him away from the building before things get ugly.I slip out into the cool starlit night, moving fast and silent, drawing him toward the courtyard where it’s darker, more secluded. “What are you doing h

SKY“Damien Rock, his father, is bad news. I think he’s some kind of enforcer, but I’m not completely sure. I’ll have to confirm it,” Kiana says, her tone sharp as she stabs her salad with her fork.“The rest of Damien’s crew never show up for class. I see him walking into the Dean’s office all the time, acting like he owns the place. He even spray-painted all of D Block last semester. His father owns a lot of property in New York. I can’t believe you don’t know this. You really need to do your research, girl. These college boys are trouble.”I roll my eyes, scooping up frosting from my carrot cake. “Research? This isn’t the FBI, Kiana. I just went on one date with him. It’s not that serious.”Kiana raises an eyebrow. “You wanna bet?”I sigh and push my fork through the cake again before eating a bite. “I hate hearing that, honestly. I already have enough heartache to deal with because of Lamen. He’s still attached to my energy, and I want him out of my life. The only way to do that

SKY I drift through the rest of the day in a daze after Damien drops me off. I know I probably shouldn’t have given him my new number, but I did it anyway. He makes me forget things I’d rather not think about, even though Lamen still lingers in my energy like a dark echo.Later in the day, I’m supposed to meet Kiana in the cafeteria. As soon as my business administration class ends, I burst through the door and rush to our usual table by the big window that catches the afternoon light. Kiana’s already there, sipping her latte like she has all the time in the world. She doesn’t know anything about my unexpected, crazy date with Damien.I move so fast that I nearly knock over her teal mug. She grips it tightly, laughing. “What are you doing, woman? You’re acting like you’ve had ten cups of caffeine already! I was just about to order a coffee for you, but I figured I’d wait.”I bump the table again in my excitement and quickly tuck my hair behind my ear. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! I hav
