Chp 1 Pt 1 The Perfect Life

Katerina

“Katerina, Skye hurry up! You are going to make us late for school,” yells Xander from downstairs.

‘Hold your horses, we’re coming,’ I mind link.

“Why didn’t he just mind link us to begin with,” asks Skye.

“Dramatic effect,” I reply with a laugh.

Xander is my cousin and just a few months younger than Skye and I. Skye is also a cousin and my best friend. We live in a small town in Oregon and are attending our senior year in high school. I’ve lived here my whole life and I have always dreamed of traveling. I want to see more in this life. I don’t want to just find my mate and get married.

Skye and I finish up our make up and head down stairs. We find Xander pacing back and forth. He has always been the impatient one.

“Finally! Let’s go already,” he says as he rushes out the door towards the car.

Skye and I giggle as we follow him, climbing in the back seat. Xander drives to his best friend’s house. Kyle and Xander were born on the same day and have been inseparable ever since. It’s always been the four us with the occasional fling attached.

“Who is ready for senior year,” yells Kyle as he hops in the car.

Kyle is sporting his football jersey along with Xander. Skye and I are in our cheer uniforms as today we will be having a prep rally to celebrate the first day of school.

“Good morning Katerina,” says principal Edwards.

“Good morning Mr. Edwards,” I reply with my best fake smile.

Mr. Edwards always ensures to say good morning to me, knowing who exactly my parents are. This school is not all wolves, there are humans that attend as well. They are completely oblivious to the fact that the supernatural are right beside them, though a few know about us. My father is the Alpha of Winter’s Moon pack.

My parent’s story is well known around here and I am supposedly some miracle because I am the first born tribrid. My mother was born half angel and half human but was gifted by the moon goddess a wolf of her own. I, however, was born angel, human and wolf.

“Welcome back, I hope this ends up being an amazing senior year for you.”

“I’m sure it will be Mr. Edwards,” I reply.

I know he just looks forward to my dad’s donation every year and once I graduate he thinks that’ll end. We make our way towards our lockers to drop off our bags and I stare at the now empty locker. Soon enough our lockers will be filled with our school books and notes from secret admirers. This is it, our last year.

“Hey Kat,” says Josh, a wolf I have had a crush on for quite some time.

I have secretly been hoping he turns out to be my mate, though I hope he doesn’t want kids right away.

“Hey Josh, how has warrior training been going?”

“It’s been going well, so far I’ve been in the top of my class. Beta Jackson says he has high hopes for me.”

“That’s awesome.”

“I hope you’ll come cheer me on during the finals.”

“I wouldn’t miss it.”

I can’t help the blush that spreads across my face as Josh heads to his first class.

“Would you just finally tell him already,” complains Xander.

“I’d rather wait until I’m eighteen and know for sure that he is my mate. I don’t see the point in dating anyone at this point.”

“Girl has got a point,” says Kyle.

“Whatever,” replies Xander just as his human girlfriend, Georgia, shows up.

“Hey Z.”

“Hey babe.”

I feel bad for the girl as she has no idea that once he turns eighteen he may find his mate and leave her heartbroken. It’s not fair to her and Xander knows it.

“Alright well that’s our cue to head to class,” I say as Xander and Georgia begin making out in the middle of the hallway.

Skye giggles and follows me to our home room class that only has wolves in it. The school ensured to set up home rooms this way so wolf students got announcements regarding what is going on in the pack along with the school. Skye and I take our seats in the very back just as the first bell rings.

“Alright everyone, settle down,” says Mr. Rogers. “Welcome to home room and the first day of school. You all know the homecoming game is this Friday and the warrior finals are this Saturday. I suggest you warriors on the football team get some rest after the game because we will not take into account your school activities.”

“Sir I have a question,” says a she wolf, Isabel I think her name is.

“Yes.”

“Can you tell us about the Lycan pack in Canada? Why don’t we associate with them?”

“Who told you about the lycan pack?”

“So they do exist!”

I can tell Mr. Rogers is pissed at himself for giving it away and now he doesn’t have much choice but to answer the question. I wonder how she found out about them when I know nothing about them? I am the Alpha’s daughter and I haven’t been told of a lycan pack.

“The only thing you need to know is they are barbaric and are more animal than human. They will kill you without a second thought. Stay away from the lycans.”

“Why won’t you tell us more about them,” I ask.

Mr. Rogers gives me an annoyed look.

“It’s not part of my job. Take any further questions to the Alpha.”

That is exactly what I intend to do. I wanna know more about them and what happened for us to refuse to associate with them. What if we are wrong about them and they could be great allies for us. I’ll probably speak to my brother first. He’s the next Alpha anyway.

‘You will drop this matter of the lycans. They are not welcome in this pack and you are forbidden from associating with them,’ orders my father through the mind link.

I can tell everyone got the same message as they begin talking amongst themselves. Mr. Rogers must’ve immediately notified my father of today’s discussion and he doesn’t sound happy about it.

‘Kat what is going on? Father is furious,’ Kai mind links me.

‘Kai, what do you know about the lycans?’
