Chapter 2
Avery's POV
I held on to the hem of my long, flowing gown and rushed down the stairs.
“ Where is my son?” Luna Rosa asked, upon seeing me, but I didn't reply as I brushed past her.
I could feel the gaze of everyone on me as I strode off as though they were trying to read through me to find answers.
The breeze touched my skin as I stepped out of the hall, the tears that had built up in my eyes finally came pouring out.
The ground seemed to shake beneath me as I ran towards the Pack house.
I ran into my room and shut the door behind me.
Letting the tears fall out freely as I walked aimlessly, sinking onto my bed.
I clenched on to my pillow, soaking it with tears.
My heart beat painfully, as though a knife had just been dug into it.
* * *
I was woken by the pain that coarse through my head like I had just been hit with an iron. It’s morning already.
I cried myself to sleep last night.
The voices I heard last night ring in my head.
My entire being wished for it to be a dream, but it wasn’t.
I stepped down from the bed, my body ached, dull but persistent.
My whole body felt like staying in bed, but I had to go prepare Drew's breakfast.
Avia grumbled...
“ I'm pathetic, aren't I?” I asked my wolf, Avia, but I got no response.
“ I guess you're mad at me again. I'm in love with him and can't stop myself. It's not his fault, I'm at fault for not being able to bear him a pup.”
“ Let's just pretend like we heard nothing.”
I said, heading towards the kitchen to prepare breakfast for him.
As I dragged my feet to the kitchen, the pack's maids bowed their heads, but their gaze was that of pity.
I didn't care about their stares.
“ Are you a fool, Avery?” Avia, my wolf, finally spoke up.
“ No, I'm not.” I responded.
“ He clearly shoved it in your face for the past three years that he didn't want us. "Let's move on already!” Avia snapped, but I was fast to shut her off.
“ My head is a mess right now. "I need to think,” I said to Avia before entering the kitchen fully.
I began to prepare breakfast for Drew as usual and in less than an hour, I was done.
I set the dining table and waited for him to arrive.
I knew he had spent the night with his mistress, but I didn't care. All I wanted was his love and nothing else.
My heart still yearns for him even with all the pains he has put me through.
It is almost noon now, and yet, he still hasn’t arrived, causing me to feel uneasy.
“ Does he love her that much?” I muttered sadly.
“ Even if he doesn't love me, must he shove it in my face?”
Didn't he even feel our mate's bond at all?
Is his Wolf not scolding him, for treating I and Avia like this?
How can he be so cruel?
All this thought was going on in my head when the door finally opened and he strode in.
I flashed him a smile as he walked in.
“ I prepared breakfast for you, come eat,” I said as I walked towards him and held his hand.
He threw a cold glare at me before responding,“ I have already had breakfast.”
He took his hand from me roughly, his eyes filled with hatred.
“You prepared breakfast for me. After you embarrassed me, where the hell did you disappear to last night? he barked, his eyes blazing with anger.
I'm sorry, I had a running stomach, so I had to leave in a hurry. I lied even though all my body wanted to yell at him and confront him for cheating on me.
Of course, you will have a running stomach. When other women are carrying babies in their stomach, you're here having a running stomach," he sneered.
His words caused me to flinch, stinging painfully.
“Maybe I would have been pregnant by now. If you had been making love to me. I shot back," You've not had sex with me for the past one year, yet you want me to be pregnant. I'm also a woman, Drew. I have feelings too!”
I said, hitting my chest with my folded fist, as tears slipped from my eyes.
“ I guess you must have forgotten, haven't you?” He chuckled and took slow steps towards me.
“ You're barren, remember? "You can't bear a pup, so why should I acknowledge you as my wife?”
Those words felt like knives, slicing through my heart.
“ What?” I couldn't believe my ears.
“ Yes, someone is already carrying my pup, so I don't see you as my wife anymore,” Drew replied, his eyes darkening as he spoke.
I bit back the tears.
“ I'm aware that you already have someone carrying your pup,” I muttered.
“ So you're aware and you feign ignorance? Is that how much you love me?”
He smirked as he closed the gap between us, causing my breath to hitch.
“ Too bad, I don't even feel any slightest love for you. "I wonder how you are, even my mate. "My heart has never skipped a bit at the sight of you, and my d*ck has never risen at the sight of your naked body,” he scoffed.
The last part of his words cut through my heart like a dagger, causing me to stagger backwards.
My legs felt numb as they couldn't hold my weight anymore, and I fell to the ground.
“ So why did you marry me? Why then did you mark me on our wedding night?”
Why did you claim me as your mate from the onset?
"I asked, my voice broken, eyes welling up with tears.
“ I needed a pup and my father is so keen on making sure my Luna was my fated mate, even though I'd never give a damn about the mate thing.
So I had to marry you, but since you've proven to be a barren bitch, I had to take other measures. "I need an heir to continue my legacy,” he said and squatted in front of me.
“ Here is the divorce papers and alimony. "This amount would be enough to start a new life,” he said, as he took out a folded file from his suitcase and threw it at me.
“ What… what… is this?” I stuttered.
“ What do you think?” He smirked and stood up as I slowly took the paper from the ground to go through it.
“ Di…di… divorce papers?” I asked, raising my gaze to meet Drew's eyes.
“ Yes, sign the divorce papers and take this ten million dollars to start a life for yourself,” he replied.
“ Did I ever mention to you that I need your money?” I stood up from the ground and threw the divorce papers at him.
“ It seems you do. "I need to introduce my new Luna, so I need you out of my pack,” he replied.
“ I regret the day I ever met you," I spat, my eyes burning with disdain.
“ I, Alpha Enzo, reject you, Avery Ryvan as my mate and the Luna of my pack,” he said, his voice cold without any form of warmth in it.
I staggered backwards as I felt the mate bond being severed.
Avery's POV I was on my way home. It had been two days since the meeting with the Watson Group. The contract had come through, I’d reviewed it, signed it… and then silence. Not a word since. As I pulled into the driveway, I heard the kids chirping inside and Miss Lois trying to calm them down.A small smile tugged at the corner of my lips.It had been a hectic week; back-to-back meetings, reports, and appointments. I hadn’t spent much time with the kids. Thankfully, they understood, even if they were a little too playful sometimes, they've always been good kids.I unlocked the door with my key, something I’d insisted on. I had told Miss Lois never to open the door for anyone. I couldn't afford to take risks with my children’s safety.“Mummy is home!” Caitlyn called out.Seconds later, all three of them ran toward me.I dropped my bag and opened my arms wide, gathering them into a hug.“Hey, cuties! "How was your day?” I asked, kissing the top of Caitlyn’s head.“Our day was great!” C
Avery’s POVThe morning sun was barely rising when I arrived at the office. Today was the scheduled partnership meeting with Watson Group, and I’d barely slept.I had gone over the presentation three times the night before. Not because I doubted my work, but because I dreaded the man behind the name.Geoffrey Watson. The Lycan King. And the father of my children. The more I remembered that name, the more I felt a knot tighten in my chest. If only his company wasn't the only reputable Were runned cybersecurity company, I wouldn't have gone ahead with this deal. And even though I tried to convince myself that he wouldn’t attend just every client meeting, a p
Geoffrey's POV I stepped out of the plane, the cool breeze of the airport hitting my face.I had traveled to London for a business deal late Friday night. As I walked over to the car, Neon stood beside it, waiting to welcome me.“Welcome back,” he said, opening the door wide.I had instructed him to stay behind and dig up everything he could about that woman.Even though Gail, my wolf, yearned for his mate… I despised her.I can’t be mated to someone who is a fool like her.I slid into the seat and leaned back.Even if I ever wanted a second chance mate or choose a Luna, it would have to be someone who is smart and intelligent. She doesn’t seem like either.I wish I could turn back time. Back to when Elena, my first fated mate, was still alive. She was beautiful. Brilliant. Everything the Moon Goddess could give to a Lycan heir. But I had prioritized duty as the heir to the throne over her.I wish I hadn't gone for that council meeting. My father was too ill to attend the General Cou
Avery's POV I woke as early as 6 am to get prepared for work and get my kids ready as well.Monday came faster than I had expected.Settling in was actually easy for the kids, as the transfer had happened during the summer break. This would give me time to figure out their schooling, but for now a babysitter would do just fine. The kids were still sleeping. Bluey had gone home last night after helping me settle in. I completed my meditation and sat down on the couch. For the first time in since we came back, I was alone with my thoughts—and that wasn’t a good thing.I thought moving here would mean peace. A fresh start. But instead, I’d run right into the one man I had hoped never to see again. Not because I hated him.But because he now had every reason to hate me.Avia has been ignoring me since my outburst. And I understand her anger at me. She hated the way I treated him."Avia" I whispered, but I was met with silence.I know you are angry, and you don't want to speak with me, bu
Avery's POV I stood right there frozen resting on the door, reminiscing over what had just happened."Really?" Bluey said eyeing me and shaking her head as she brushed past me, leaving me at the door. And I watched as both men entered their car and drove off.Closing the door, I stepped inside, meeting Bluey's gaze as she sat down on the sofa; clearly waiting for an explanation "Hope you know that was unwise?" she asked."I know," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper.I was just... scared, I said and sank into the seat opposite her."I couldn't think of any other way to protect my kids from being taken away from me."He couldn't even wait till like tomorrow before he comes knocking and wanting to take my kids away from me," I added."I think you should have been patient and listened to him, because clearly he was not here to fight and throw his power around.""He was smiling, Avery,”"I was literally shocked." She said leaning forward, more serious now.“Do you know how rare th
Geoffrey's POVWhen I had thought I was coming back to rest a bit before leaving for the council meeting, my mind couldn't find peace after what happened earlier today. And Gail, my wolf, isn’t making it easy either, as he kept on reminding me that we must not lose her this time around. Not when there’s a possibility that those kids are mine. There’s not even any disputing that those kids are mine.I sat down in my office, leaning into my chair as I rocked it slowly, waiting for Neon to get me all the information about that woman and those kids.I was unable to find her five years ago because I had no picture of her, neither did I have her name. But now that her face is on every camera at the airport, there’s no hiding place for her.Neon should have something by now. It’s been hours, and we have to leave for the council meeting soon. The door sprang open just as I stood to leave. Neon strode in.I sat back immediately, waiting for him to speak.“So, I was able to get her information f
