Chapter 9

The Truth

The King cleared his throat and began his story. “When your mum was pregnant with you and your brother, she was not aware that she was pregnant with Twins. Her pregnancy was a very difficult one. The weather was extreme during those 10 months. We experienced days so hot we thought we would be burnt to a crisp by the sun. There were volcanic eruptions, lava spewed high and wide, incinerating everything in its’ path. Days were so cold, we thought the breath would freeze in our throats. The seas were rough, there were huge waves, many tsunamis devastating the villages in the lower areas. This is one of the reasons why I chose to build our castle atop this Hill. It is the highest point in the world and no volcanic eruption can reach or affect us. No wave can reach high enough to wash over us. What is strange though, is that when these weather anomalies occurred, your mother experienced terrible pregnancy pains and discomfort. Not being able to sleep, eat, or even stand at times. There were days she would just lay in bed. We even thought we had lost the baby at one time because she bled so much. Luka and Lyle exchanged confused looks, wondering what the extreme weather and natural disasters had to do with them. The king noticed the boy's looks and said, “one night your mother was asleep, it was one of the worst nights yet. There were 3 Tsunami waves, each one bigger than the last, and on the horizon, it looked like the waves were covered in hot molten lava. Your mother who was sick with fear, disbelief, and an overall feeling of defeat, fell into a deep sleep. The Moon Goddess came to her that night and spoke to her. She told her that your mother was carrying something very important within her, responsible for the survival and destruction of mankind and every living species. She also said that we were to ensure that our firstborn male child had to find their mate as soon as possible after they turned 18. She went on to say that should his mate not be found within 20 centuries of turning 18, the world would be destroyed by his emotions alone. He would eventually lose his sense of touch, taste, smell, being able to see in color and hear distant sounds. His soul would become cold and frigid, every tragedy or loss he would feel a hundred times over. His world would end up in chaos, pain, and loneliness, and these emotions, which are linked to the elements of the earth, would destroy the earth and every living creature in it.

This is not even the worst part, The world would begin again, we as the Royal family, the first of mankind, would be born again, however, we would not remember anything from our past life, but the firstborn son who did not find his mate, the one responsible for the destruction of the world, would remember everything. The pain of not finding his mate, the utter loneliness, and the feeling of despair. The sharp pain of losing loved ones, of time passing by, and the constant reminder that he is alone with no color or warmth, a broken soul. What he would remember the most though, was the ending of the world, the sheer destruction caused by him. The devastation was wrought by Tsunamis, volcanoes, fire, and water, heat and cold, all because he did not find his mate and could not control the raging emotions within him. He would remember that he ended the world, together with the lives of his loved ones and those dear and important to him, until he finds his mate. Only when he finds his mate would the memories of the past hurt and destruction fade away. 20 centuries of turning 18, he would end the world again, wiping out every living creature. The memories would be twice as intense, and he would remember the destruction of the world the first time, and the second time, and every time thereafter. The events may not be exact, but the memories will be there. This cycle will continue, and if after 7 lifetimes the firstborn is unable to find his mate, he and all his kind will cease to exist.
