Late Arrival

I woke up with a jolt, gasping for air, and felt damned relieved that I wasn't in the middle of a burning forest. I was still shivering from the stark terror that gripped me in my dream. Was that just a dream? No way, it felt, almost too real...

"Mez! you're up! we need to head towards the main hall, it seems that Ms.Aslome wasn't entirely done with her speech."

"Haha, I sorta saw that coming, she seemed to have a lot in mind yesterday."

"Hey, are you fine, you look rather pale.."

"Ah, don't worry about it, I just had a nightmare."

"Hmm if it bothers to you too much, you can talk to me about it Mez, I'm here to listen.."

"Thank you, Katy, I will do so, but I think we need to run now, considering our highly disadvantageous spot in the dorms."

We broke into hearty laughter and prepared to go to the main hall, yet again we were running late. Upon hearing Ms.Aslome's voice I began to panic, her speech had already begun! As I approached the main hall at top speed, I realized that I couldn't slow down, and BAM! I hit the door with maximum impact, therefore ruining any attempt to make my presence as unnoticed as possible. The door opened revealing a very flushed me, and Katy, receiving the unwanted attention of the whole room. GOD! I wished I could make myself vanish.

"Ahem, stop gawking at her as if you've never seen an accident you all. Shame on you!" Ms.Aslome roared, managing to scare the wits out of everyone as usual.

I couldn't feel more uncomfortable at that moment. Katy patted me to reassure that everything was ok which managed to calm my tortured mind for the time being.

"Mez, Katy, since it's only been the first day, I'll excuse your late coming, now join in."

As Katy and I made our way through the crowd, we received a ton of glares and spiteful looks. "Don't mind them Mez, just keep going," Katy said. And so the speech continued, Ms.Aslome announced names of people who had not turned up so far, in hopes of getting any information about them from their friends. She then said this one name, that rang a bell in my head.

"Has anyone heard from Evin Leswind?"

Evin... ah yes, Katy mentioned him yesterday, right? that name bought in a strange sense of nostalgia mixed with pain for some reason. I only had very fragmented and puzzling memories of these people still. Katy did mention a thing or two about his whereabouts, she said that he hadn't been responding to anyone's calls or messages for about a year, he had made himself inaccessible, all because I had disappeared? I felt like there was more to it than just my disappearance. Everything seemed like a mystery to me right now.

But all the while the speech was going on, my nightmare still clung onto my thoughts like a parasite. Who was the one with those mystical blue eyes? Why did he save me? Was it someone I knew? Pity, I couldn't see his face. My nightmare seemed so real that too, hmm, was it possibly a memory from the day I went missing? But the person with blue eyes didn't look like he wanted to harm me. He was the one who saved me from getting attacked again. Yet again my head started to throb terribly as I tried to recollect my memories. it felt as if someone had deliberately put a memory block in my head, I just couldn't stand the pain.

Another thing that I was really curious about was what everyone's powers looked like. Dangit, I forgot to ask Katy the three major things that I was curious about - one, my disappearance, two, what powers looked like. And the third one which I was late to figure out and which baffled me the most, Evin. Whatever I felt about this person seemed to be rather odd in every way, I did remember a few things but, something didn't match, no, everything matched, but nothing matched. When I thought of him, I felt pain and joy, admiration and hatred, trust, and betrayal, all at once. He was what I would like to call - an ironically intriguing mystery.

I also realized that even though I didn't remember a lot of memories related to people, I did strongly remember the feelings I associated with them. For me, each person was a mixture of colors, feelings, and short phrases. Katy was - simple, sweet, helpful, and always had a comforting feel to her. Isla was - energetic, bright, friendly, she lit up her surroundings like sunshine. Victor was - cool, composed, conscientious, a person who always had your back. Evin - funny, impulsive, mysterious, someone who seemed like an endless puzzle.

Just then the doors of the hall, swung open, revealing a guy, panting for air, with shaggy black hair, clothes all messy, as if he had rolled in mud, and his jeans were torn at the knees showing a bleeding wound. However none of that seemed to bother him, his eyes darted across the room as if searching for someone until they landed on me.

The moment my eyes met his, they filled with tears, I couldn't stop them, I wiped them away before anyone saw it. I couldn't see anything else in the room, his eyes were entrancing, capturing all my attention in an instant. He stood there motionless, with a wide grin, half relieved and half happy, however, a hint of sadness lurked behind his smiling eyes. It was Evin.

Before he could come towards me, he was greeted by Ms.Aslome, who then proceeded to ask him to come to her room and explain the reason for his late coming. As he turned to leave, he looked back again at me, and mouthed "I'll be back soon." I couldn't help but smile, I was overwhelmed by a strange relief, it was that feeling you'd get when you found something that you had treasured so much, after a long time.....

A painful nostalgia, a reminiscent entrancing memory, that was him.
