Chapter Two

I didn’t want to lose my necklace so I put it back in the box. I will ask Ashley to put it up for me until I come back in. “Luna Sara, I am going to put my present up. Can we go outside when I come back?” “Yes sweetheart I will grab our picnic basket.”

I hope Ashley is still in the kitchen. I walk through the kitchen door but I don’t see anyone. I can smell Austin. He smells like a campfire and feels like home. He always tells me it’s strange that I don’t have a wolf because my sense of smell is like a wolf’s. He always does this. It’s my favorite game to play hide and seek with him. As I’m walking towards the pantry his smell gets weaker so I turn around to go to the cleaning closet. Bingo it’s strong here. I pull the door open and scream got you. “You did great birthday girl.” “Can you please put my present up until I come back in? I really don’t want to lose it playing. It is a necklace from my mom. Luna Sara said I was wearing it when I was found.” “I will put it in my special place until you want it okay?” Thank you Austin, we are going out for our picnic and to play tag.” I hugged his leg and then took off to get Luna Sara and Mike. I’m starving like always and just want to play tag with Mike.

It was my favorite lunch. Big ham sandwiches, chips and an apple with bottled water. We had been playing tag for at least an hour when Luna Sara said it was time to go. I wined I wanted to play longer. I only get to play with Mike on my birthday. But I understood that Luna Sara had to get back. As we was putting everything in the basket a smell so bad hit my nose. It was awful and made me feel sick. Luna Sara suddenly went still before she grabbed our hands and started running. I have never seen her so scared. We hadn’t run but a few feet when this matted, bloodied and awful smelling wolf jumped out in front of us. She pushed us behind her. “Dad is on his way. We have to get to the safe room Ella, mike whispered.” “We can’t Mike it’s to far away.” “Mom just mind linked me. When she shifts we run okay Ella?” I nodded I was scared but he’s right we have to get to safety. Luna Sara looked at us and shifted into her brown wolf. She was beautiful and strong. Mike pulled my hand and we took off running. We didn’t make it far before another smelly wolf lunged for Mike. I didn’t think I just pushed him out of the way and the smelly wolf grabbed my leg. It hurt so bad and I screamed. The smelly wolf started to drag me but Luna Sara’s wolf bit its neck and it released me. Where was Mike, what is happening? I was getting very weak and my vision was blurry. I couldn’t see I could only hear the snarls and fighting. Then I heard the howl of sorrow and I blacked out.

Beep, Beep, Beep that is so annoying. Someone needs to turn that off. Beep,Beep, Beep okay I guess I will turn it off. I tried to open my eyes but they feel heavy. Why can’t I move my arms. What is going on. I’m starting to panic when I hear people talking. Just calm down and listen Ella. I slowly calm down and try to listen to the voices maybe they can help me.

“It’s been 2 weeks Doctor Kelly. When is she going to wake up? She has to be punished.” “ She lost a lot of blood. Because she is human her leg will be healed in another week. She is in a coma and should wake up anytime. Her vitals are showing improvement Alpha. “ “You will notify me the moment she wakes up. She has one more week.” “She will be punished Doctor Kelly. I see how you look at her. She is the reason why your Luna is dead.” “Yes, Alpha.” The door slams shut and I can’t even think. Luna Sara is dead? How did this happen? I have been in a coma? Then it hits me. My 8th birthday. The picnic and playing tag with Mike. The smelly wolfs and it bit my leg. No Luna Sara can’t be gone. She treated me like her own pup. I panicked again and that stupid beeping got louder. Before I blacked out I heard Doctor Kelly. “Ella , I know you can hear me just calm down I gave you some medicine to rest. We will talk when you wake up.” And once again I was plunged into the darkness where I relived the worst birthday ever knowing Luna Sara was gone.

Over the next several days I would wake up and try to move or open my eyes. Then Doctor Kelly would give me medicine and I would go back to sleep. Finally on the 4th day I was able to open my eyes. My body was stiff and I smelled. I needed a shower. Doctor Kelly walked in as I was looking around. “Ella it’s good to see your awake. How are you feeling?” “I’m sore and smell. Could I take a shower?” “You haven’t moved in weeks Ella. Let’s get all these machines unplugged and get you up first.” Once everything was unhooked I sat up and stretched. When I looked at my leg I let the tears fall. It was healed and the stitches were out. The scar reminding me of that day. It looked like it was torn apart and sewed back crooked. “I did the best I could Ella. I’m so sorry but I had to piece it back together so I could stop the bleeding.” I know she was feeling guilty but she saved my life so I would be thankful. “It’s okay Doctor Kelly. I’m here and alive you did your best.”

The door to my room slammed open and in walked Alpha Ralph. He looked at me with so much hate. This can’t be good.
