It was a cold and dark night. Theo was nowhere to be seen, and a howl came from behind the house. Diane and I had no idea what was happening but one of us had to take action. I took a torch, and a shovel from the fireplace and headed out the back.
I moved cautiously due to circumstances. How the hell did someone successfully come into the compound with his dog? I kept thinking of possible scenarios as I went forward. The more I walked, the more I saw how forest-like his house looked. Then I heard the howl again. I listened for a moment and went in the direction of the sound. If there is someone there, would this shovel do the trick, or am I'm just walking to my doom?I kept moving deeper as I hoped Diane had called for help just in case it was something I couldn't handle. As I moved, I realized that it got more quiet than usual, which was suspicious. "Who's there?" I pointed towards the trees and turned around. "You better come out now before the cops get here, I might just let you go," I started, but still no answer.I took a step forward and then I heard it, an animal-like growl. This time I was sure it was close by. I gripped my shovel tighter, waiting for it to come out. I spent the next few seconds preparing myself mentally, but no amount of time could have prepared me for what I saw.I heard the growl again and saw it come out slowly with golden eyes and dark brown fur. It continued to growl as it prepared to attack. It was a bloody wolf, the type you only saw from a distance or on television, but here I was standing less than twelve feet from it. I slowly began to retreat as it came closer.Damn it, is this how it all ends? How the hell am I going to fight against a wolf? I tried to think of ways to escape but to no avail. The only way would have been to climb one of the trees but I couldn't turn my back on this beast.Just then it lunged closer with its teeth ready to rip me apart. I stretched my hand forward and somehow managed to block its attack with the shovel. It dragged the shovel away with its teeth as the impact pushed me to the ground. I quickly got on my knees and blocked my face with my arms as I saw it approach again."Argh!" I yelled as it bit my right hand. I suddenly remembered the torch I held and smashed it on its head. It pulled back for a few seconds but it was long enough so I started for the nearest tree. I had already reached the nearest branch but my hands were too weak so I slipped.I groaned as I hit the floor with my injured arm, but I couldn't just stay put so I ran. It caught up with me and this time the wolf aimed for my thighs. "Arghhh!" I tried pushing it away but to no avail. I had already said my prayers, just waiting for it to end my pain, Oddly, it stopped.I raised my head just in time to see a bigger wolf approach. It kept growling at ... the other wolf? I looked behind to see a once-aggressive wolf looking scared. Why is it retreating?I started to feel dizzy and I struggled to push myself away from where they were but failed. I was too weak and I knew I lost a lot of blood. I was about to give up and lay completely flat on the floor when I saw something attack the bigger wolf.Sounds of a struggle between them surrounded the area but I was sure what I saw wasn't human. The other wolf went in their direction so I made one last effort to escape. Unfortunately, I couldn't walk properly so I leaned against the nearest tree, struggling to breathe.Even in my current state, I saw how the unknown figure dropped one of the wolves a few feet away from me and approach me. "He...lp, help... me, please." I had no idea who she was but I knew what I needed."Shh," she whispered and knelt beside me. She took my hand and observed my wound. "So you're the chosen one huh? I mean this is definitely an unpredictable occurrence, me meeting you here, and you do have a powerful aura around you even while you're hurt.""It's been decades since I turned a human. I guess the universe is on my side today," her lips curved into a smile as she came closer to my face. "I only came here to weaken the wolf pack by taking one of the alphas' son, but this?" She chuckled and grabbed my neck with her other hand. "Jackpot." She whispered and leaned in.I flinched as I felt her on my neck. My lips parted but made no sound, I was too tired to move. Her bite became less painful as seconds went by so I relaxed into her grip. Many things went through my head at that moment. Why is she able to bite into my skin? Why does my neck feel hot all of a sudden? Who is she?"I have to say, you're really lucky," she breathed on my neck as she pulled away from me. "Had you not been the chosen one, you would have been one tasty dinner," she licked the remaining blood on her lips.My head began to swirl and I hit the ground. I stared at her as she got up and rearranged her clothes. "Well, let the battle begin."And then there was complete darkness.RussellI couldn't tell how long the journey to Cuba took, as I was too occupied with the thoughts in my head to bother about time. It was even easier keeping to myself since Diane was still pissed off at me and was concentrating on her laptop. Theo was equally occupied with some work files. At some point, I might have drifted into a restless sleep. I was awoken by the air hostess who brought lunch."Hi sir," she called softly to get my attention.Grumbling a response, I pulled off the headset plugged to my ears, as I checked her out. She held a glass tray and seemed to be saying something that I wasn't listening to. Her skirt was neatly pressed to her curvy skin and stopped above her knees in the typical hostess fashion. Her tucked-in, collared top had the same white as her teeth. The bronze-colored lipstick shaping her lips seemed to glitter when she smiled. The details of the human standing before me weren't helping the feeling of hunger that had suddenly consumed me. The voice wa
RussellI took a seat at one of the chairs at the back of the conference room. I could feel the weight of skeptical eyes on me. The hushed whispers among coworkers hinted at the exact thoughts in everyone's mind: was this reinstatement merely a result of favoritism, or did I truly deserve a second chance? And I was almost completely certain it was the former.Their murmuring came to an end as Theo walked in, taking his place at the head of the table. It was a rare sight—all the chairs now filled, a stark departure from the usual emptiness that had defined my time at this workplace. Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow and ushering in a shift in the room's atmosphere."I'm sure my Uncle was not the type to beat around during important meetings, hence I will go straight to the point," he adjusted himself on the chair. "I went through the company records and while so many products are doing exceedingly well, I noted that the face scrub that was released roughly two
My body dangled out the window. Theo held on to my arm like his life depended on it. "Let go, Theo!" He ignored me as he pulled me back into his room. I looked at my best friend. Seconds passed but no words were shared. He took one look at me and he knew. "I will never let them," he mumbled. I hated that he knew me so much, that he knew how cowardly I was. "With my uncle unconscious I have a say as the head of the Anderson pack. All they can do is keep an eye on you, and as long as you follow the rules, they'll stay far away," he placed his hand on my shoulder. I turned to look out the window and she was already gone. I probably shouldn't have trusted her in the first place. But when I couldn't see her I felt a sharp pain in my chest. Was I developing feelings for her? I had no idea but without a doubt. There was something magnetic pulling me to Maxine, and the next time we meet, I might not be able to resist.MAXINE'S POV"That little prick!" I yelled with gritted teeth. I was so c
It was 7:30 p.m. The air tickled my face as I moved forward. Once again I found myself in Theo's house. I needed to let him know what I had just done. I let out a sigh as I rang the bell. Besides the fact that I had to tell him what I did to his uncle, I wanted him to help me, I trained for almost a month but I still had no clue on how to control myself when I needed to. No matter how hard I try, whenever I hear her name...I lose control of myself."What are you doing here?" his voice brought me back to my senses."I don't know what's going on. I...I can't control myself.""What the hell man? I thought that was Maxine," he took a pause and raked me with his eyes. My shirt was spotted with blood. "F**k," he sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, pushing it away from his forehead. They must have called to tell him what happened to his uncle."Is he..." My heart thumped in my chest. I had nightmares for days after the hunt. Adding another person to my list of victims was not someth
My shirt adhered to my body like a second skin. There was no source of fresh air in the parking garage. Surely, I knew Mr Dean would throw a fit since I couldn't make the one week deadline but I never thought he would actually fire me.It was almost five and I stood by Mr Dean Anderson's car, sweaty and extremely frustrated. Every sound made me flinch. If Diane found me, she would kill me. It was bad enough that we lied to her, disregarding her was way worse. But I just couldn't bring myself to say anything. What would I even say? 'oh hey Diane, funny story, the night we went to see Theo I got bit by a vampire and became one. I'm also supposed to fulfill a prophecy but, no big deal'? Yeah that sounds stupid. My brows subtly hinted at surprise as Mr. Dean finally graced me with his presence. "I thought I told you to leave my building Russell," he said haughtily while walking towards me. Well, technically to his car."Sir please just give me one more chance, I...""Why are you always be
After several turns and guesses, I opened the 5th door for the night. Maxine gave the order that I was supposed to stay in her room and I had to obey. Memories of the hunt flashed through my eyes as frequently as I blinked and I was getting suffocated. Finally, I found the room, and all I wanted to do was wash off the evidence of the experience and feel normal. I walked into the bathroom which was at the corner of the room. I weighed my choices and got in the shower. I didn't have extra clothing but I was comfortable with using the bathrobe until I found something else. Getting out of my blood-stained clothes was my top priority at that moment. They screamed, bawled, ran, and jumped, just to get away from me. My body had embraced the darkness and I couldn't get out of it. There was no going back from this. How would Theo and Diane see me after I'd done this? "Fvcking hell!" I murmured as the water ran through my back. I took the bar of soap and scrubbed so hard I began to feel pain.A
