Our second visit to the Northlands was just before the blood moon season. We have decided, by we, I mean Saraya, to always make sure we were in the central Northlands during the blood moon. I really could care less. Saraya had turned it into a mating season, where instead of meaningless killings and violence, debauchery was welcomed. Every single creature was allowed to mate with anyone they wanted as long as the other party was in agreement. We tried it once and it worked – at least to some extent. Mated humans wanted a chance to cross-breed with other creatures which led to a few fights between the clans. About three dozen human males were killed and if I had to compare it to the deaths of the previous ones, I would say it was an utter success. Saraya didn't think so. She wanted a peaceful mating season. And because I didn't have the heart to tell her there was no such thing. I kept my peace. "Dane?" Saraya called coming down the stairs of the cabin. "Mmm…" I grunted, craning m
"Dane!" she screamed as the disintegration was almost to her head. "You, my love you are a fucking goddess! Fight! Fight, damn it! Don't you let them do this to us! Fight!" I yelled with anguish. "Find me…" I thought I heard her say, but I couldn't be sure. I saw a shimmer in the air right at the back of where she stood and then she was gone. My heart tightened so hard that I fell to my knees. The pain. Oh! Heavens! The pain was profound. "Selene!" I screamed in pain. The very core of me was burning. "Selene!" I continued to yell for the goddess who created me, showed me what living meant and sentenced me to damnation. The anger was slow, but it came like a poison vine and it wrapped its claws around my soul. Now that the only reason I had wanted to live was taken from me, what was there to live for? I stood up, grunting like a wounded beast, I broke off the charm necklace around my neck and threw it aside and slowly let the animal in me out. Like a volcano, I busted out of t
"I am not a witch!" Saraya cried in distress but none paid her any mind. I looked back to the portal and saw the shimmer was no more. I looked down at my hand thinking of the best way to get her out of there. My heart thudded faster than normal and when she screamed again, my head snapped up and I shapeshifted immediately. I howled loudly, causing the crowd to stop chanting and turn in my direction. The grounds grew deathly quiet and then a woman screamed and then another. A loud boom sounded and I felt something hit my chest, my skin blistered and immediately regenerated. I charged forward, swatting humans out of my way to create a pathway through the crowd until I got to her. Snipping the thick rope holding her to the stake with my sharp nails, I ignored the heat of the fire, scorching my skin and pulled her off the burning pile, yanked her into my arms, and dashed away into an alleyway, not looking back. If I was in doubt that she was my Saraya the feel of her body nestled in my
I let out a string of expletives and darted my gaze about in the blasted rain but she was nowhere in sight. I shut my eyes and inhaled deeply. Wisps of her floral scent filtered into my nostril despite the rain. And since the guardian was already hovering and knew where I was, I shut my eyes and growled, "Find your mate!" I felt my beast surface and took over. He howled loudly and stormed down to the eastern side of the grounds. Now, I just needed to get to her first before they got to me. I saw her running about a quarter of a mile away, she looked back, saw me, let out a loud shriek and then tripped. I scooped her up, summoned my pegasus, regressed and straddled it. I need not tell him where I wanted to go, and within seconds we were in the air and behind the clouds. It was one hell of a race and I was not prepared to be caught. Saraya clung to me, shaking in fear. I buried my face in the nook of her neck and whispered, "Don't be scared of me. I would rather slit my own throat th
After we both cleaned up in the river, I realised she must still be unsure of me because she seemed embarrassed by what we shared and turned her back to me when we bathed. We stayed by the river for a while longer before my pegasus took us back to the cabin. The state of it seemed to get to her but she didn't say a word. I went straight for the charm necklace and wore it. I felt her watching me and looked in her direction but she quickly looked away. I smiled to myself. "You can go upstairs, I will tidy this place up," I said. She simply nodded. Folding her arms against her chest, she did as I asked. I spent the next hours fixing the front porch, not resting until I was done. Then I strolled to the nearest stream to wash up before returning to the cabin to make food for her. When I climbed up she was lying on the bed with her back to me. Her breathing was irregular so I knew she was pretending to be asleep. "I made roasted beef with vegetables just the way you like it," I said.
The second time she was taken from me, there was no warning. I left her in bed after making love to her and came back to find golden shimmers of dust on our bed, without thinking I threw some clothes on and walked through the thick mirage of the liquid-like gate she left behind and found myself in a hospital. My inside was in knots and I was scared shitless of what I would find, knowing she was pregnant with our son. I walk through long hallways with humans giving me curious gazes. I really didn't care what they saw. I just needed to find Saraya. Mercifully her scent led me into a modern operating room. Her cries made me barge in through the revolving double door. She just delivered a baby boy – my son. Only the baby was still and unmoving. He was stillborn. He had come too soon. Saraya cried loudly, begging the doctors to give the baby to her. "Did anyone come with her?" the female doctor in the blue getup asked. "No, she came alone and was in labour," an average-height nurse re
Regardless of my lack of recollections of our time together, and our incessant quarrelling since we reunited, I could somewhat tell how much Dane cares for me. it was in the way he looks at me even when he is angry with me it was still there in the depth of his eyes. So then I knew if the food was left untouched, he would be back. I refused to eat the food he asked the maids to bring up to the room and turned them back as soon as they brought it. Yes, I was hungry, but would have preferred very much if he had stayed to eat with me. Hoping I was right in my deduction, I stood by the window and waited. Soon enough, I heard his angry huff and I could hear him coming up the stairs. My heart skipped a beat and thudded rapidly as the door was pushed open. I felt his presence to my very core. It was surreal. I closed my eyes and inhaled his manly scent. And for some reason tears filled my eyes. I could only imagine how intense whatever we might have shared must have been and I wished to rem
He reached for the neckline of my dress with one hand and tore it off of me. "Oh lord," I whispered at the violent passion in his exotic eyes. Running urgent hands over my body, his massive chest heaved. His breathing was loud and laboured. He slowly lowered to his knees and placed me on the bed, smoothing my hair away from my face as he gazed longingly into my eyes with a dark hungry gaze. "For all the years you were there on earth, I stayed away from you to keep you safe. I had to think about you… I had to put you first. " "And all those years I burn for you, Dane!" I cried, knowing he was doing it again, trying to talk himself into not touching me. "Saraya… I don't want to lose you again damn it!" he growled. "You will not lose me. You said it yourself. It is happening differently this time, Dane. Please make me yours!" "Saraya… " he growled. "You have made me wait for you all this time. Take me now, Dane!!" I urged in tears. "You think that I am mad at you now. If
