Chapter 22

Ye Shaotang was startled.

He did not know what was wrong with himself.

Normally, he would stay late in the office and would only go home until he settled everything.

But today, he had rushed home straight away after work.

He did not even care about the work that was not completed; he just brought them back home.

When he got home and did not see Xu Yi, he felt a little disappointed.

Before this, Xu Yi would come up to him when he got home and put his slippers next to his feet. Then, she would help him remove his coat and tie.

But there was nothing today. There was no smell of cooking coming from the kitchen. Only dead silence.

Suddenly, the house had become cold and lifeless.

When he heard Xu Yi’s footsteps, he tried his best to control himself from opening the door for her.

However, he did not expect the war that was waiting for them in the end.

When he saw Xu Yi raising her thorns like a porcupine to defend herself, Ye Shaotang backed away voluntarily. “I came back early today. I haven’t eaten.”

“I’ll cook for you then.” When this sentence came out of her mouth, both Xu Yi and Ye Shaotang were shocked.

Xu Yi was vexed. She definitely did not intend to say this.

How could she have volunteered to cook for this frigid bastard?

Could it be that Xu Yi’s soul did not leave?

Rushing to hide in the kitchen, Xu Yi said quietly, “Lil Yi, Lil Yi, is that you? If that was you, make some noise. Say something. I would rather be the one who died. Please come back to life. I’ll give everything back to you. The man you love, the kitchen that you cook in, and the bed that you dream of. Lil Yi…”

In the end, Xu Yi squatted on the floor and sobbed. Her voice sounded so sad that even Ye Shaotang who was sipping his tea outside heard her.

Ye Shaotang walked to the entrance of the kitchen. He was about to knock when he suddenly turned around and walked away. Xu Yi might be gentle, but she was stubborn.

At this moment, Xu Yi must have wanted her personal space and would not want to be disturbed.

He did not know how long he waited outside. He had already completed all the work that he brought home to do. Xu Yi was still in the kitchen.

When he looked at the time, it had been an hour.

“Xu Yi, what are you doing?”

Ye Shaotang pushed open the kitchen door and saw the fridge’s door wide open. The food inside was being rummaged and there were some weirdly shaped tomatoes on the chopping board.

Ye Shaotang got angry. “Xu Yi, what’s the meaning of this? If you don’t want to cook, you can tell me. Why did you mess up the kitchen?”

Xu Yi finally showed her timid self in front of Ye Shaotang. She said in a small voice, “Um… don’t get mad. I don’t know how…”

Xu Yi wanted so bad to slap herself. The previous Xu Yi was a natural-born chef. And now, she was saying that she did not know how to cook. She was afraid that Ye Shaotang would think she was trying to argue for the sake of arguing and was being unreasonable.

Sure enough, Ye Shaotang mocked, “You don’t know? What do you not know? You don’t know how to cook? Xu Yi, wake up. I realized that you’re behaving more and more like An Xin after she passed away. But do you know how you’re impersonating someone but gaining the opposite of the desired effect? She does not know how to cook, so you’re going to pretend that you don’t know how to cook as well? Her name was An Xin, do you want to change your name to An Xin too? I know you hate to be apart from her, and you want to live like her to continue her legacy, but…Xu Yi, the best thing you can do is to not disturb her. Do you understand?”
