Eva’s Point of View

I step into the hallway just as Sonia and Parker appear around the corner. Sonia’s hair is braided to one side, looking far too elegant for dinner in a training compound. Parker… well, he still walks like his ribs remember the arrow.

“You clean up well,” I say.

“Clean is a strong word,” Parker grumbles. “I found a questionable leaf in my sock.”

“That leaf saved your life,” Sonia adds with mock gravity. “You owe it respect.”

We make our way to the dining hall, teasing each other like we’ve done this a hundred times. It’s strange, the way this little group has formed around me. Stranger still that it feels… nice.

But the moment we step through the double doors, Parker stops dead in his tracks.

His eyes widen. His jaw slackens.

“Holy sweet mother of God,” he breathes. “I think I died and entered heaven.”

I blink. “Ah.”

Sonia lets out a bark of laughter. “Did you forget to mention something?” she nudges me.

“Apparently,” I mutter, trying—failing—not to smile

  • The executioner and the Alpha King   Chapter 112 – The Weight of Choice

Sonia’s Point of View There’s no air. At least, it doesn’t feel like there is. My lungs work, but the light presses against my skin like fog, heavy and too bright. When it clears, I’m not in the chamber anymore. I’m standing in the middle of a vast open field. The sky above me is silver. The grass beneath my feet is soaked in dew that clings to my boots like blood. Cold wind cuts through my robes. Somewhere far off, a bell tolls once—deep and low and final. To my right, I hear splashing. A lake glimmers there, sharp as glass in the strange light. A child is flailing in the water—small, maybe six years old, arms thrashing. Their face breaks the surface for a second. A mouth opens in a scream I can’t hear. Then they disappear again. I jerk toward the lake. But on my left—screaming. A different child, a little girl, pounding on the window of a burning carriage. The flames are already licking at the wooden wheels, black smoke billowing into the sky. Her small fists hammer at the

Sonia’s Point of View I didn’t sleep. Not really. I closed my eyes. I counted my breaths. I turned the pillow over, then back again. But sleep didn’t come. Just a tight knot in my stomach that’s still there now, as I stand outside my room, tugging nervously at the sleeve of my tunic. Eva’s already here, straight-backed and alert, like she always is. Parker shows up thirty seconds later, yawning dramatically and rubbing at his neck like sleep personally offended him. “Morning,” he mumbles, squinting at the light. “Anyone else dream about glowing swords and bad decisions?” Eva gives him a look. I almost laugh. Almost. I fall in step beside them as we head toward the dining hall. My boots make soft sounds against the smooth floor. Everything here is too clean, too peaceful, like the building itself is trying to calm me down. It’s not working. The dining room is already busy. A few girls from the training wing are scrubbing the tables with cloths that smell faintly of lemon. One of

  • The executioner and the Alpha King   Chapter 110 – Not Just an Executioner

Eva’s Point of View Dinner ends with laughter, and I don’t hate that. Sonia steals a second slice of cake and insists it’s for “ritual strength.” Parker tries to flirt with the Bone Breaker girls and nearly gets stabbed with a butter knife. Selene stays behind with the twins, talking to one of the teachers who already has Carol smiling, and even Lily looking curious. It’s peaceful here. Disarmingly so. We say our goodnights in the hallway. Sonia stretches like a cat and declares she’ll be asleep in two minutes. Parker, still walking with a slight limp, gives me a two-fingered salute before disappearing into his room with a theatrical groan. I push my door open. The smell of clean linen greets me. My boots thud softly against the floor as I cross the room. I untie my ponytail and sit down on the bed, just for a moment. Just to rest my eyes. But I never get the chance. Three knocks at the door. Sharp. Formal. I already know who it is before I open it. Elder Mason stands in the

  • The executioner and the Alpha King   Chapter 108 – The Huntress in the Drawer

Eva’s Point of View I leave Parker in his room, still dazed from our recent brush with death—or whatever version of it that forest arrow was trying to deliver. He’s been quiet since the healing, processing things behind that calm face of his. I get it. Sharing blood changes more than just chemistry. My room is still the same. Clean. White. Sparse. The kind of space where nothing lingers too long—not dust, not mess, not memories. I close the door behind me and toe off my boots. The silence wraps around me like a second skin. I walk across the wooden floor and stop in front of the nightstand. One drawer. I open it slowly. There’s a folded handkerchief, an extra hair tie, and an old pen that doesn’t work anymore. I brush them aside and feel the familiar cool metal against my fingertips. I lift it carefully, like it might disappear if I move too fast. A necklace. Gold chain, delicate. A single charm—Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. The only piece of my real family I have left.

  • The executioner and the Alpha King   Chapter 107: The Blood Bond

Eva’s point of view Next on my list are Parker and Sonia. I want to show them their rooms and go over the house rules before anything else. The camp might be hidden in the middle of nowhere, but that doesn’t mean we get to live like animals. Structure matters. Even in the woods. I start with Sonia, whose room is right next to mine. The door creaks as I open it—I’ll have to remind the groundskeeper about that—and Sonia walks in slowly, glancing around like she’s trying to map the place with her eyes. The room’s simple: wooden bed, small desk, fresh linens folded on the chair, and a window that overlooks the southern forest line. She doesn’t say much, but I notice her touch the curtains like they’re something fragile, something rare. Comfort, maybe. Safety. “Dinner is served in the main hall at six sharp,” I tell her. “There’s a bell. Don’t miss it unless you want to eat leftovers with the raccoons.” She cracks a smile and nods. That’s a good sign. Next, I walk across the c
