LOGINAria’s POV:
After talking with the press and confirming my divorce in public, I got in my car with Mira and returned home.
Instead of thinking of my court case, I was wondering why Liam Styles sat there and even had a smile on his face.
“Will you be okay alone?” Mira asked once we got to the sitting room, I stared around and felt so lonely, but I knew I was going to be okay, just as Ava said…it was just a phase.
“I will be fine, thanks for today, Mira,” I smiled at her, she nodded and handed my car key before leaving.
I sat in the sitting room for more than an hour before my phone rang, it was mother.
“Yes, Mom?”
“I saw the news, and I am glad it all ended peacefully,” she said, and I chuckled lightly, yeah…I was glad as well.
“Umm, Mom, is Dad back?”
“No, but he will be back in a few days, and I hope you will be home so you can explain things to him. You know how easy it is for him to misunderstand situations.”
Of course, he viewed life in a different light. Where everyone sees it as a suitable spot, he finds it as a bad spot because a place that is flooded cannot be a good place.
“Okay, Mom, gotta go.” I hung up and checked the time, and it was only 1pm.
“I need to sulk and then pick up from where I left.”
So I dialled Isa’s number, which got connected after a few rings. “Hello.”
“Oh, hello, Aria,” she said with a sarcastic or probably annoyed tone.
“So, uhm… How are the sales?”
“What do you think?” She questioned, and I brushed my hair with my fingers and sighed tiredly.
“Is there no way to make my books sell without including Caleb?”
“You took a break, and so did your book; when you are ready to resume, then we will find a way. So just....take a break,” she explained, and I pouted.
“I didn’t mean to be harsh the other day.”
“Listen to me, Aria, I love you, but this is business, and you have to up your game. The company invested a lot in editing and publishing this book. Did you see the billboards all over America? They had your fucking face on it because we knew this book was going to earn more, so tell me why we can’t even afford the editing f*e?”
“I am sorry, and I will refund; I will refund every expenditure if that’s what you want.”
“You are getting it all wrong. Aria, we need to sell these books and also get honest reviews on them, or else the name Aria Nicole won’t exist anymore.”
My cheeks tightened, and I placed the call on speaker before placing my phone on the table. “I didn’t predict that my ex-husband was going to cheat on me on the very first day I chose to release my book.”
“Yeah, you didn’t, but you could have fixed this mess only if you listened to me.”
“I am tired, okay? All I wanted was to be a writer and not some actress. I won’t act anymore, okay?”
Now I was really losing my cool; I don’t even remember what it feels like to be the real me. What it felt like to be Aria Nicole before I joined the publishing house.
I was just the best-selling author Aria Nicole with no real identity.
“Fuck you all.” I ended the call and pulled my hair frustratedly.
This can’t be it; I can’t be letting go of my career and marriage on the same day.
“Did I do this to myself?” I sniffed my tears; there was only one person who was going to be blatantly honest with me, and it was that stranger, Liam.
I logged onto the internet and did research on him; he had no social media handles, and the only news I could find on him was about his career and also his dad.
He has a case tomorrow; he dared sit back there and watch my case, so I will do the same… I wish to see how he defends a case against Caleb. Let me see just how good he is, as everyone keeps praising him.

I spent the night avoiding everyone’s calls; I didn’t want to talk about my divorce. So I woke up early, made breakfast for myself and bolted before I freshened up.
“Hmm, Liam Styles,” I muttered. Just how good was he at being a lawyer? He dared call me fake.
After I was dressed in a long blue dress with long sleeves, I applied makeup and got to my car before driving out.
Minutes later I arrived at the courthouse, but it was hard to find a parking spot. I kept searching until my gaze landed on the vacant spot at the end, and after parking, I fished out my makeup bag to touch up my face.
A car parked next to me, and I noticed it was Liam. He walked down the car with a woman who had a baby.
I whirled down my window and leant back; I didn’t want him to see me.
“I can’t go in with the baby; he is going to cry a lot, especially when he sees his dad,” the lady explained, and Liam rubbed the baby’s head.
“There is a nearby restaurant; go stay there with the baby, and I will come get you once we are done.”
“Are you sure he will be freed today? I had a lot of lawyers promise me they do return home with my husband, but they always come back empty-handed with a postponed case,” she kept saying while sobbing. I couldn’t see her face clearly, but from her voice, I could tell she must be in her mid-twenties.
And she must love her husband so much, and it feels like hell praying every day for your husband to be released from jail when he was accused of killing the minister’s son.
“No case is getting postponed today, and I will get Salmon out; you could even order a lot of meals at the restaurant while you wait,” he said confidently, and she chuckled.
Why was he giving her so much hope when he wasn’t the judge? He had no idea what Caleb was capable of; Caleb was the best lawyer in America.
Aria’s POV:It was extremely hard trying to lie to yourself, but it was even harder to make a stranger feel you can’t do without him.Right now, Liam was just another stranger in my life… someone I meet during one of my tough times, and we don’t bond, we don’t argue… We just go our separate ways.“I have no idea what you are talking about.” I cleared my throat and tried to switch the topic. “You said I was fake, so why read my book?”Liam picked up the book. “This is the only one I find interesting,” he stated, and it made no sense; I wrote that book years ago when I thought it was fun.I had no plans of publishing; all I wanted was to write a story and to appreciate the hero who showed up in my life during my darkest moments. It didn’t make much sense. “Okay. It seems you have no interest in paying up, so I will leave.”He nodded, his gaze on the book. He was back to his reading while I was still present; this was my cue to leave.I stood up and spotted his box of unpacked stuff. “Do
Aria’s POV:Liam stood there, dressed in casuals and also had glasses on… It made him look smart and soft; his hair was rough, and he looked so tired. His lips curled to a smile before he leaned against the doorway. “Burgundy,” he muttered in an amused tone.I cleared my throat; I didn’t come here to bond with him or entertain him.“You owe me.” I didn’t expect this to be the first word to leave my mouth, but it was a great start. I didn’t want him to have the wrong impression that I had come here for another reason.Liam chuckled and took off his reading glasses. “Come in.”“No, once I have my money, then I will be on my way,” I explained. There was no need for me to go in; we had no relationship… We weren’t even friends.“Come on in, Burgundy.”I breathed heavily before walking in; he closed the door behind me and returned to the couch… There was an open book on the table. And I couldn’t believe it; it was my book.It was the first book I ever published, “My Hero in the Dark.”A smi
Aria’s POV:I leaned closer to Sam and watched the video she was watching; it was just one of Liam walking out of court… He didn’t even say anything to the press.“Liar,” I scoffed. For a moment I thought he was really coming back to America.“I am not, okay? He didn’t say it directly to the press, but he posted it.”I rolled my eyes. “He doesn’t have an account.”I had searched everywhere but couldn’t find his account, so I figured he must not be a fan of the internet.“He has.” Sam scrolled on her phone before shoving it in my face.It was a Twitter account; the profile photo was Liam’s, but the name was not anything related to Liam Styles. It was Mr. Consegnare. In his latest post, he tweeted, “Going home for a break, no more cases.”He was coming back. Our path could cross again.Wait.“Umm…What if he meant home as in his home in Italy?” I questioned, and Sam laughed.“Why are you so interested in this man?” Ava asked in disbelief, and I pouted. Was it wrong to ask a question?“Do
Aria’s POV:Mother walked and sat next to me before she rubbed my back. “You know how upset your father gets at times, so stop crying, okay?”I nodded and cleaned my tears.Caleb stood up and scanned the sitting room; I noticed his eyes grow sore, but I didn’t want to be affected by it, so I looked away.“Umm…I will leave now,” he said. Neither Mother nor Gigi answered as he found his way out of the house, and I pulled my hair and stomped my foot on the ground.“I don’t want to move in, Mother.” Why was Father asking me to move in? I didn’t want to live with no freedom anymore, a life where he controls when I go out and when I come in.I didn’t want that.“What’s so wrong with moving in? You got divorced, and instead of coming back home, you chose to stay there alone,” Mother scolded with a frown. “If you think your family isn’t important and you don’t need us, then feel free to leave. It’s not like we could hold you back,” she scoffed and left. Now I had pissed off even Mother. My fa
Aria’s POV:I nudged at Mother, who shook her head and signaled I eat quietly. “Just come in and eat already,” I said with a loud tone, and Caleb nodded. He walked in and bowed slightly. “Good day, Father, Mother…Gigi,” he greeted, but Gigi scoffed loudly.Caleb pulled the chair next to me, and Mother pushed a plate towards him; she didn’t want to talk to him, but after all, she was a mother. We ate silently till we were done. I helped Mother clean the table, and now we were in the kitchen with Gigi, and I was drying the dishes.“I don’t understand why your father invited him over,” Mother said with an irritated tone as she passed the plate for me to dry.“This time around he really crossed a line.” She smacked her lips, and Gigi sighed.“Divorce isn’t a joke; the kids had gone too far,” Gigi muttered while staring at me, and I pouted. I didn’t go far. That was the best solution to this relationship.“Aria,” Father called, and I almost dropped what I was holding.I turned to Mother, w
Aria’s POV:One…two…threeIt was three days since I went my separate way with Liam; he dropped me at my place and drove off, and I am sure he must be in Italy right now.I was getting dressed to have dinner with my parents; Father was back and wanted to see me. I knew I had a long night, as it won’t be easy trying to explain things to Father. After staring at my reflection in the mirror, I brushed my hand through my hair… He said it was pretty, but maybe he is just a liar.I pulled my drawer and took out the scissors, gathered my hair in my hand, and was about to cut it, but it was hard.My hands trembled as the scissors fell off.RingMy ringing phone brought me out of my trance. I checked the caller, and it was Caleb.“What?” I scolded once the call got connected.“Umm…sorry,” he apologized, and I sighed heavily; I was just in a bad mood.“Why are you calling Caleb?”“Father called me; he asked I pick you up on my way.”My brows furrowed. Which father? Did his parents finally return
