All boxes are unpacked. Finally, I’ll be able to settle down. Not too soon either as I start my new job tomorrow. I’m so excited! I’ll be working for a big video game company in downtown Montréal, joining the marketing team.
This is a dream come true! I’ve always enjoyed video games ever since I was a kid. Mom and dad where a little sad to see me go away but I’m only a half an hour drive from their homes so it’s not like I’m never going to see them again.
Looking around, I can’t help but feel proud to finally live on my own. At twenty-five, some of my friends already moved on their own. But I wasn’t in a hurry to move, life was good living with my parents. And as their only daughter, they didn’t put any pressure on me to go away, we were getting along just fine.
Walking around my apartment, everything was just as I wanted it. A big open space which serves as a dinner and living room, a modern kitchen and finally, my bedroom. I put a lot of time in picking paint and decoration in every room. My bedroom was the one that I liked the most. You could just feel the calmness envelop you as you’d walk in.
I sent a quick text to my mother to say that I was fine and went straight to bed.
The next morning, I got up fresh and ready to start my first day at work. I put on a pair of black pants and a blue blouse. I think it looked professional and cute. That should do a good first impression at work, I thought to myself.
I lived only a few blocks away from the subway. In total, it took a little less than half an hour to get to work, not bad if you consider that going by car would be longer because of the traffic hour. The subway stopped right by the interior parking lot of my work. From there I just had to take an elevator to the fourth floor.
Arriving at the reception, a young blond woman greeted me.
“Hi, welcome! Can I help you?” She asked.
“Yes, I’m Sarah. The new employee in marketing,” I answered.
“Oh welcome! Please take a seat, I’ll call Marissa right away to pick you up,” she answered with a big smile, while replacing a strand of hair that had fallen on her face.
I sat on the big red visitor couch as I waited for Marissa to come. Marissa was the marketing’s department boss. I’ve met her during the interview for the job. She seemed serious and a little frightening but then again, who is not frightened at least a little bit when doing a job interview?
I didn’t have to wait long for Marissa to show up. She was wearing her brown hair up in a ponytail, with black pants and a beige cardigan on top. She was pretty; I would say she was about the same age as me. But her gaze was cold as she walked to greet me. Although she was less scary than during the job interview, still, I didn’t feel comfortable being alone with her. Even her handshake felt cold.
Thankfully, as soon as we walked through the employee’s door, I was greeted by lots of friendly coworkers and immediately felt welcome. Everyone was eager to meet me, it felt great!
The day was going on real fast. I had lots of meetings in the morning and had so many things to learn! I also had a few documents to read and sign from HR. I took a look at past events then company held and even tried some of the video games the company produced. Time really flew by.
I sat with the marketing department at the cafeteria at lunch time and got to know them a little bit more. I met a few people from sales. Zach was Marissa’s cousin, he worked in the sales department. He was a tall blond guy with blue eyes and a broad chest. I thought he was kind of cute. He seemed like a nice guy.
Who knows, maybe I’ll get to know him better one day. I had been single for quite some time now. I wasn’t particularly looking for someone. My friends had been trying to get me to date some guys, but I was very busy with my studies. I always thought that when I’d met the good guy, I would know it. So I never worried about it.
As I was preparing to leave at five, I got called last minute in a meeting with the R&D team to talk about the latest game development. I was already tired and could not wait to go home but I wanted to make a good impression for my first day of work. I put on my best smile before walking in the meeting.
A few people were already in the meeting. I looked around the room as I entered and then I saw him. I almost stopped breathing when I spotted this guy, sitting at the back of the table. He was tall, maybe about six feet’s tall, with dark brown hair and green eyes. You could easily guess his muscles under his shirt. He was dressed elegantly.
I could feel my cheeks blush. I guess I was staring because he raised his head and looked up at me. I immediately stared at the floor to hide my embarrassment and found an empty chair to sit. When I looked back at him, he was still looking at me, with a light smile on his face. I’ve never felt drawn like that to someone before.
Then I looked at everyone else in the room. When I met Marissa’s eyes, she was looking at me with daggers in the eyes. “What the hell did I do to get her angry?”, I thought, but decided to brush it off.
Soon after, the meeting started with a round of introductions. I hate those! It always makes me nervous and I never know what to say. Everybody was looking at me, so I got up.
“Hey! I’m Sarah, just started today in the marketing department. I’m really eager to work with each of you!” I said with a big smile.
It wasn’t that bad, and I think I got a good impression.
Everybody presented themselves and I got to learn a few things. It turns out that one of the software developers, Keven, was Marissa’s boyfriend. He was the lead developer of the new game. I also learned that the beautiful guy at the back of the table’s name was Sam. He was the director of the R&D department and Marissa’s cousin.
He didn’t seem a lot older than me. I guess they have young directors here since him and Marissa are directors but neither of them look to be older than thirty at most.
Keven presented the new video game currently in development. It was a first-person game about werewolves and vampires.
Marissa looked at me and said, “You, my dear, will be the one responsible for all the marketing of the new game.”
I looked at her in surprise and gaped. I mean, I was happy, make no mistake. But this was my first serious job after finishing marketing school and it was also my first day! This felt like a huge responsibility.
“Wow! For real?” I asked her.
She smiled and answered, “Of course! If you need any help or advice, I will be there for you. The same goes for the other members of the marketing team.”
It was the first time I’ve actually seen her smile. She did look a little less frightening like that. Maybe she just had a cold personality?
The fact that the team was behind me in case I needed help with the project was reassuring me. I’m sure that I’ll be able to find incredible ideas for this game and I couldn’t wait to get started! In the meantime, I would get to meet with the developers as often as necessary to get early peeks at the game.
The rest of the meeting was about other details that didn’t concern me. It was dragging on. Some people were always asking questions when I thought we were finished and I was really starting to get hungry.
When it finally did finish, I was eager to go home. I picked up my notes and got up, but a hand fell on my shoulder as I was about to start walking. I felt tingles coming from that touch. When I turned around, I saw Sam with the biggest smile on his face. “Hey! Sarah, it is, right?” He asked with a deep voice. “Yes, it is, and you’re Sam?” I asked him in reply, as if I didn’t remember his name. I mean the guy is gorgeous! I had a hard time concentrating the whole meeting, my eyes just kept coming back to him all the time. I was trying not to drool on the desk. He laughed a little before answering, “Yeah that’s right. So… I couldn’t help noticing you looking at me earlier.” Oh crap! I thought to myself. And here I managed to make myself look like a fool on my first day. So much for a first impression. I tried to make it as if it wasn’t true, even though it must have been so obvious.
What a day! Finding my mate was never something that worried me. A lot of my family found their mates early on. Some of my friends were teasing me as I was getting older. I knew that one day it would come. But I didn’t expect to find her today! I still remember waiting in that meeting for everyone to come. When I smelled her, I just knew. One word repeated in my brain: mate. My wolf knew it was her, he wanted out. When she came in the room, she looked at me. Her brown hair coming at her shoulders. She had the most beautiful hazel eyes. From the look she gave me, I knew that she felt it too. She was human, I couldn’t smell any wolf in her. I would have to take it slow with her; I don’t know how she’ll react when she finds out what I am. But today was great! I didn’t expect her to accept going to the restaurant with me but I’m so glad she did! And that feeling when our lips touched, I don’t even know how to d
The day was going fine but the development of the new game was going slower than anticipated. I had to sit in with many developers trying to explain why we were behind schedule. Keven was the lead developer on that game. He was also Marissa’s mate. Keven was always a little distant, a little different from other wolves in our pack. But overall, Keven was a good guy, working hard on the software development team. “Listen, we just have a little more bugs than anticipated,” he told me. “The new dev, he’s having problems but he’s learning. Just give us a little more time and we’ll get the game ready.” He assured me. “Fine Keven, I trust you.” He gave me a smile and said, “Thanks, you won’t regret it.” And then he left my office. The day was coming to an end, when suddenly, I felt fear in my heart! Something was wrong with Sarah, our bond as mates was strong enough that I could feel it. I ran to he
Sunbeams were coming between the curtains. I woke up and realized I was curled up in Sam’s arms. I smiled at that though. I could feel his warmth breath on my neck. His unique scent was strong, and it smelled so good. I was feeling safe and peaceful. My heart was beating fast for him. I couldn’t believe how nice and affectionate he was with me. What did I do to get a guy like him? I smiled as I remembered how cute it was when he called me “babe” yesterday. My hands started to roam his body slowly without me even thinking about it. A soft smile appeared on Sam’s lips as he opened his eyes. “Hey babe. Slept well?” I smiled back, “Your arms are the best place to sleep in.” He seemed pleased by my answer and laughed a little. He put his hand in my hair and gently played with loose strands. I brought my mouth closer to his and kissed him, biting his lower lip. His fingers slid on my skin, making goosebumps rise wherever they w
This last sentence made me smile, how sweet. He was right, I would be safer with him rather than alone. But I’m not five years old, I can take care of myself, right? I mean it’s not like I really knew how to fight. But there’s nothing at my apartment threatening me. Even if I felt frightened, I wanted to get home tonight. I will see him tomorrow anyways, I thought to myself. I wrote to him, “Well I want to get stuff at my apartment, and get my head together on everything that’s happening, so I think I’ll get home instead for tonight. I’ll think about you for sure, we can see each other tomorrow.” This time a few minutes passed before I received a reply, and I was getting a little worried if he was going to respond or not. “Okay baby, then let me walk with you to the subway before you leave at the end of your day. I want to kiss you goodnight.” I couldn’t hold a smile at that thought. “Of course, I wouldn’t miss th
“That’s why we always keep a change of clean clothes with us at all times.” Added Zach with a grin on his face. “But it usually doesn’t happen that often.” He added with a wink. “I’m sure you have a lot more questions that you want to ask.” Zach continued, “And I’m sure Sam would be more than happy to answer them for you. So, I’ll leave you two alone and see you tomorrow.” He turned around without waiting for an answer, waving goodbye and leaving me alone with Sam. As soon as Zach was gone, two strong arms encircled me. Sam was fully dressed now. “I was so scared. I thought I lost you.” He rested his head on my shoulder and gave me a kiss on the neck, letting his lips stay there a few seconds. I could feel his heart beating strong in his chest. I felt truly loved in his arms. I had so many questions, I didn’t know where to start. He broke the silence first. “Were you
We drove in silence to my place. Sarah was looking out the window, staring. I could feel she had a lot on her mind. I knew she needed this time to think so I just drove. The attack earlier was still fresh in her mind for sure, and it was fresh on my mind as well. I’ve never been so scared in my life, to lose someone so dear to me. My wolf was still feeling uneasy, I needed Sarah to be with me, to touch her, to feel that she was fine. I’ve been keeping my wolf in check, taking quick looks at Sarah while driving, a reminder that she was there, right beside me. It did help to know that she was coming to stay at my place for a few days. I prayed to the moon goddess that Sarah will want to stay with me more than just a few days. And I prayed that she wouldn’t reject me, now that she knew I was a wolf. So far, it wouldn’t seem so, but I hoped she would not reject me as a mate because of what I was. We arrived at my place
“Took you long enough,” Zach told me with a smirk when I opened the door. “Hi Sarah,” he added looking at her. “Hey Zach,” she answered while going to get a cup of coffee. Her hair was messed from our making out. It must be quite obvious what we were up to. I wished no one would see her that way other than me. As she passed in from of him, Zach took a smell of Sarah’s scent and a look at her mark. He looked at me with a big smile on his face. “Congratulations man! It’s finally official.” He said to me. “Thanks man.” I answered, “Couldn’t be happier.” Sarah went on to tidy up her hair and came back looking radiant, as always. I couldn’t believe how pretty she looked. “As long as you’re happy.” Zach continued, “This is not for me. I like to taste girls, I’m in no hurry to settle down.” I laughed a little. “As always, but you’ll see one day, you’ll find a girl that will tame you.” “I g
