Kai woke up that morning irritated, usually this was as a result one thing, His inner wolf.

It was even worse as he was unable to figure out what the problem was.

“Fuck!” He cursed getting up from his bed and staring out the window.

"knock knock"

He growled at his door, ready and in the mood to tear down whoever it was.

Everything got on his nerves that morning.

“Come on in.” His low husky voice grumbled.

“Good morning Kai.” Rune greeted.

Rune was a lost lycan turned friend who had lost his family to those filthy monster, houndras.

Terrifying monsters that had troubled the mundane and the lycan realm for years.

“What do you want?” He asked.

Rune knew Kai all too well.

“I am sorry to disturb you , but I brought the annual report just as you requested.” Rune said bowing slightly, handing the tablet with the yearly report to Kai.

“Hundred years!” Kai thundered as he flung the tablet against the wall.

"the fuck?" Rune ducked quickly as he avoided being hit in the head.

“I am sorry sir, but we need you to be calm for this sir, we are almost at the verge of being discovered here, the houndras are on our trails and there are rumours of their sightings around the city.”

Kai's anger softened.

“A hundred years after the prophecy, still no mate, no saviour. I am starting to think that we are doomed!”

“We are having another Gala today, hopefully you find the one that you seek.” Rune answered.

“But you can't do that, not in this mood of yours.”

Kai's eyes burned with rage but he could not deny the fact that Rune was making sense.

He had given up a long time ago about finding this mate but he pushed on because of the prophecy.

“Fine!” Kai said as he got dressed, “I will be going for a run in the woods, I will be leaving my phone here to ensure that I am not disturbed.”

Rune mumbled under his breath and that caught the attention of Kai.

“What is it this time?” He asked

Rune hesitated to speak.

"I do not have all the time I'm the world!"

“you can't go to the woods, that's the exact place where the rumored sightings have been said to happen.”

Kai's inner wolf was not having any of it, he craved some sort of relief from this rage.

“Drive me to the countryside instead.” Kai requested.

“That should be better my lord, but I seriously advise that we do not leave the safety of the pack house…..”

“Enough!”

“Yes my lord.” Rune said. he turned his back and rolled his eyes in displeasure.

Kai was a stubborn wolf,he would rather jump into danger, and he meant to do so this time around literally. there was nothing more he could do about the matter than to get the car ready.

They made their way out of the pack house in a couple minutes and took a long road away from the woods out to the countryside.

Kai's inner wolf was still troubled, something was amiss. To make things worse, there was a could stench in the air, like blood and rotting flesh, one major indicator that Houndras are in the area.

“What exactly is it that you want?” Kai muttered as he asked his inner wolf what the problem was.

“Is anything the matter lord?” Rune asked with his eyes still focused on the road.

“Nothing,just drive.”came Kai's snappy reply.

the car drove in silence till Kai was certain of what his senses were saying.

“Houndras!” He growled.

“Huh?” Rune said, confused, there was none in sight, at least none that he could see.

“Stop the car now!” Kai ordered, “turn it around.”

Rune did his absolute best trying to stop a car moving at that speed and at such short notice but all he did was swerve and stop a few inches in front of a car being attacked by houndras.

Kai's rage flared, he absolutely hated those creatures, everything about the. made his skin crawl.

They had destroyed lives, homes, civilizations and now they had made their way into his own city after years of keeping them out.

“Unlock the door!” he commanded

Rune obeyed immediately and Kai stepped out to fight when he was hit with a scent different from that of the houndras.

The scent was like a symphony of wildflowers on a warm summer breeze – sweet, yet subtle, with hints of honey and rose petals.

The aroma wrapped around him like a gentle caress, awakening a primal longing within.

As he inhaled deeper, the scent of vanilla and caramel wafted up, mingling with the musky undertones of skin, leaving him breathless and yearning for more.

Rune stepped out to join Kai in the fight “Is anything the problem?” he asked as he noticed Kai's reluctance to fight.

“There is a human around here, find her.” Kai ordered.

He immediately transformed into his Lycan as he charged at the houndras.

"A Human?" Rune repeated, wondering why a human would be out here all alone in the woods.

They were no match for Kai and In a Matter of minutes they were all dismembered.

“There's more of them here my lord.”Rune called out.

Kai moved like lightning towards the human and let out a loud roar that drew the attention of the houndras around her.

Just like the previous ones, he defeated them easily and rushed to the human lady.

She was drifting in and out of consciousness.

“Thank you…” she muttered.

He felt his breath freeze.

This was a human, he was certain that she was.

Humans didn't have the ability to see otherworldly creatures.

“How did she?” Kia asked Rune who was still in his human form.

Rune shrugged his shoulders, a sign that he was just as confused as Kai was.

The woman let out a loud yelp as she fell into Kai's hands.

The world was full of surprises but nothing would have prepared Kai for what would happen next.

“Mate!” His inner wolf cried as it growled in satisfaction.

He could feel the pull, the connection that held them both together.

He should have known for the moment he could smell her from a mile away.

His wolf wanted her And it wanted her now but he didn't.

She was human.

He held her tightly in his hands, still confused on what to do.

His wolf never lied, but what is he to do with a human?

Kai hated humans, if there was anything else that he hated after houndras, it was humans.

And there he was, holding one in his hands and to make it worse, he was mated to this particular one.

“Should we be concerned that she could see the houndras and you in your form?” Rune asked.

Kai's head was in chaos, “we need to get her to safety first, she's been wounded and she ” He said, “find out something about her, she should have her id in her bag or something.”

Rune dashed to the car and in a matter of minutes he was back.

“There's nothing.”

Kai sighed. He did not want to take this human back to his pack.

“I know what to do, go on, start the car.”

They all hopped in as they drove away from the scene.

It was only a matter of time before the human rescue services arrived.

“Rune…” Kai called, “I need you to find out everything about this lady and no other person should know about this” he ordered.

“Yes sir.”

All through the drive, Kai was torn between the longing of his inner wolf to have a mate, his hatred for the human species, the ability of this human to see him in his Lycan form and what he was going to do with the already fulfilling prophecy.

Back at the pack house, the wolves were safe. The house had little to no damage, thanks to Akira's idea of meeting Orion far away from the pack house before he even got there. Tony was in the Infirmary now. “I did all I could, I have done everything magically possible to ensure that he survives and he surely will. Now we wait and let mother nature do her thing,” Rune had told her, “only thing is that she's painfully slow but she is really good at what she does— most of the time” he joked. She laughed at how he spoke like he knew her personally. Rune on the other hand was glad to see that she could still smile. She had excused herself to be alone. She knew that she had a lot to do but first she was going to gather her thoughts. The battle with Orion had destroyed a lot of things but In the same vein, that destruction brought its own revelation along with it. For example, the growing stump of life inside her. The sun rose to meet her waiting for him at the balcony of the pack ho

Orion felt the cold steel on his neck and he went ahead to press his neck to it.He wanted this horrible reality to end as quickly as it started. There was no more righteous fury to drown his sense of reasoning anymore. There was only clarity, Raw and Merciless. It did not pander to the reason why he did those things. He blinked, his five senses soaking the destruction that laid bare before him.The air smelled like ash, iron and blood, human blood. He followed the scent instinctively, with his eyes following the lead of his nose to the source.“Tony—” he muttered. “He is not moving.” He said aloud to Akira.“Really? I didn't notice” Eliza scoffed, her eyes burning with anger.Orion tried to move but was pushed back by Eliza, “move and you'd wish you were him.” She warned.Orion shivered in horror.Tony's body lay twisted unnaturally near the fractured edge of the chasm, his left arm bent beneath him at an angle that no living limb should hold. Blood had soaked through his sleeve an

“Whoa,Dad!” The tires of the jeep screeched to a staggering halt.In front of them was a large ditch, “this wasn't here last week was it?” Cain asked.Eliza shook her head. “Orion must have done this.”“Damn, that's one powerful wolf if you ask me. I mean I knew he was powerful but not to this extent”“I know, that's not what we need at this moment.”“Then we better get moving, I think I can scale this,” he said pointing to the ditch, “in one jump, you?”Eliza smiled, “I am not a wolf pup dad, I think I can manage.”He reached over and brought her closer with a bear hug, “ensure you get back alive and in one piece.” “I will, you better take your own advice too dad”“Definitely, it's just a couple of Houndras, those things are like cake.”They remained in that position for a while before Cain broke it up, “let's go, we have to ensure that there's a pack returning to.”Cain took the left while Eliza took the right. She jumped across the ditches with ease, her eyes peeled for any hound.

The cracked earth created a chasm between Akira and her comrades.“There, far enough to interfere but safe enough to watch how things unfold” Orion taunted, “place your bets, people. Who is emerging victorious tonight?”Akira but back her lips. It was too late to run now and she was grateful, now she had no other option than to put an end to all of this. Her weapon, Kestrel's Filament, slid down her arms swiftly like some living serpent and straightened to form a staff, “bring it on?”Orion chuckled, “it won't be fair to bring it on when you aren't sure of your footing, I mean, take a look at you—” he waved his hands and the earth under Akira’s foot shook, causing her to stumble in the process. She used her cord to maintain her balance eventually.“That should not be your problem Orion. I said, bring it on!”“Akira be careful!” Tony shouted as she lost her footing. The floor tilted this time around after Orion waved his hands. Gravity seized her and she fell. She struck the stone alon

“Where do you think you're going?” Kai asked, his strong hands gripping Akira tightly by the wrist. “Did you not hear a word of what he said?” She responded, her anger, clearly visible in the tone of her voice. “You're not going to face him alone are you?” “I don't. We have to give Rune some time to catch his breath. He's the only fire we have that might stand a chance against Orion.” “You're still trying to talk to him? That wolf has gone mad with rage and hate.” “And who's fault is that?” She hated that she had brought that up but it was necessary to remind Kai that they were in this mess because of him. He went too far and he dropped the bar to hell with the way he went about to cover his actions. “Look, Kai. As much as I would like to put the blame on you and scold you, I am afraid I can't, not now.” “You've done enough for the pack as it is. That was why I was brought here in the first place, no? I was brought to save this pack from the path of destruction that you alre

“Is that why you are here?” Akira asked, her countenance expressed anger and disgust so strong enough to keep the most dangerous predator away but Kai was more stubborn than a wolf in heat.He knew what he was after and he was going to get it one way or the other, all he wanted was a conversation.“Hmm” Tony moaned, “thanks Kai, this is nice.” “What is he still doing here?” Kai thought. He had hoped that something somewhere would cause him to leave..His eyes trailed to Tony's moving lips, “that toast is not for you!” He muttered.“You said something?” Tony mumbled with his mouth half full.“Oh it's nothing.” Kai said with a fake smile, “enjoy!”In reality he just wanted him to choke on the next bite.He could do it manually; it takes him nothing to snuff the life out of that human but he would rather wait for him to die of natural causes. He suddenly remembered that he was still in a conversation with Akira.
