TERESA

The next day came so quickly than I expected it and to my greatest surprise, I had a free night.

It was only proper I wandered off to see Lynch since he had been on my mind the whole morning.

"You came," Lynch said and his voice broke through the shadows before I even saw him.

He stepped out from behind a crooked tree, his frame half-lit by the pale glow of the otherworldly sky.

His beautiful eyes glimmered with relief and it made my soft heart warm.

“I said I would,” I replied softly. “I will not go back on my promise. You know that, don't you?”

His lips curved into a crooked smile, the kind that didn’t quite reach his eyes. "I was not sure you would keep your word. People don’t, most times. So, instead of getting hurt. I make sure I don't expect much from anyone.”

“I’m not most people,” I corrected, with a frown on my face.

"No," he said, tilting his head as if studying me. "You are not."

He started walking, long strides carrying him across the uneven ground.
