Lily
I sat on the cold steel chair in the hospital hallway. The whole time my thoughts were floating around me. People walked in the hallway, doctors rushing from one room to the other, while families carried bouquets of flowers and fruit baskets for their loved ones. They were the happy ones. I had been feeling unwell for a week and practically no one noticed. I gave it a thought and smiled bitterly to myself. Nolan didn't even notice my pitiful state, even though I laid beside him every night. He was always busy with work. “Mrs Thompson,” the doctor called out. I stood slowly from the chair, I walked into the doctor's office and sat on the black leather chair across from him. “ Congratulations Mrs Thompson, you are six weeks pregnant,” the words hit me like a sledge hammer to the head. My heart twisted in my chest as my eyes widened at his words. “ Pregnant?” I asked, just to be sure that he wasn't making a mistake, “ yes,” he nodded. “You should take good care of yourself now that you are going to be responsible for two people, don't stress out, especially during this first trimester, it is important to you, we don't want a case of miscarriage now, do we?” I just nodded at his words. How was I pregnant? If I remember quite well, I had checked with a doctor three years ago before marrying Nolan and the doctor had confirmed that I was infertile and had a zero chance to conceive. “Thank you doctor,” I said as I stretched my hand to take the medical report. “Don't forget about your monthly checkup and In case of anything odd, make sure to come see me,” he said in a serious tone. I nodded as I stood from my sit. I walked out of the door and stood in the hallway. I looked far ahead but my mind was blank. I placed my hand on my lower abdomen, trying to check if really there was a life growing inside me, the doctors can never been wrong. And I had asked doctor Hayes countless times to make sure that it wasn't a misdiagnosis but he was positive, I really was pregnant. This should be good news. A sudden idea flushed through my mind. I had to tell Nolan. He was the father of this child and it was his right to know. I walked out of the hospital and got into my black Mercedes. “ Let's head to the company,” I instructed Mark, my driver. “Yes ma'am,” he said while nodding his head. He brought the engine to life and we drove through the city to Thompson corp. When we arrived I got out of the car, “ wait for me,” I instructed Mark. I wanted to break the news to Nolan but I knew it wouldn't take me long, so I asked Mark to wait. I wondered what his expression would be, will he be happy and swing me around? Or will he act cold and distant towards me? Maybe he would ask me to get rid of it? The thought made me shiver a little. The news came in as a shocker to me, so I didn't know how I was supposed to react. Maybe sharing the news with him might turn out differently. “Mrs Thompson,” Leila, Nolan's secretary, called in a shocked voice as she made her way towards me. She wore a short black tight skirt, with a black blazer and a white shirt. Her stilettos clicked the marble floor as she walked towards me. “Mrs Thompson, how are you,” she asked as if out of breath. “As you can see, I'm great,” I gave her a warm smile but my heart was going through a storm. I made my way to the elevator when she suddenly walked past me and blocked the elevator's entrance. I raised my eyebrows at her weird behavior. “ Excuse me Lelia, I need to use the elevator,” I said with a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes. “Uhm, misses Thompson, you can't go up there,” she said as her hands blocked the entrance. “ And why can't I, I asked flatly. “Mr Thompson is in a meeting with a very important client.” Important, yeah right, who was this important client that made Nolan's secretary so uneasy to the extent I couldn't use the elevator. “Well I'm his wife, are you going to block me from seeing my husband? Besides I'll just wait for him in his office, or do you have a problem with that?” I asked sharply. Leila's cheeks flashed red with embarrassment. “ No ma'am, please,” she said as she moved and paved way for me. “ I thought so too,” I said flatly as I entered the elevator, I pressed the button, and the elevator clicked as it closed. The whole time I was quiet but my mind was racing. I was curious about this important client, but then I was anxious about Nolan's reaction to my news, it almost gave me a headache. The doors slid open and I made my way to the CEOs office. It was quiet, it seemed that Nolan was in the meeting room, maybe I should just go into his office and wait for him. I didn't knock, I just pushed open the glass door. My heart slammed on its ribcage as my eyes met Nolan and there was someone else, a woman, her dark hair was let down to her back, she turned her head and looked to my direction. Those familiar grey eyes and dark hair that I used to hate. “ What the fuck are you doing here.”LilyThe next day, I woke up early, Ruby was still asleep, her couch was quite comfortable since I didn't see the reason for me to walk all the way to the bedroom so I slept in the coach the whole night.I was hungry, so I walked into the kitchen and fixed myself a drink. There were bananas in the fridge. I warmed some milk and blended the mixture to make a smoothie. It was soothing to my stomach, at least it was nutritious and something I could go by.I was downing the nutritious drink when pain shot through my head like a lightning strike, it was sudden and unforgiving. I winced at the pain, I reached out my hand to touch my head when a sharp stab pierced my temples, making it hard to even think straight. It felt like needles pressing into my skull, each second worse than the last. This all came from the crying yesterday and the stress I was going through. I wanted to go to the bathroom and take some of Ruby's painkillers then I remembered doctor Hayes advice. I shouldn't take just
LilyI don't know how long I had drifted to sleep but I was woken up by a nurse, she was wearing a pink uniform, her hair tightened into a ponytail, she flushed me a gentle smile as her arm tapped my shoulder gently. “ Miss, it's time for the patient's medication, you'll have to leave.” I woke up, and sat up straight, my eyes were red from all the crying and still sleepy, anyone who saw me would say I looked miserable. Although I had all the reasons to be. I nodded in understanding and took my bag. I stood up, gave my mother one final look and walked out. My head was aching, I guess it's from all the frustration, and my stomach growled in hunger. I almost forgot I had a stranger in there and he or she didn't care what I was going through and needed to eat. I walked to the hospital's cafeteria and wanted to order a coffee but I changed my mind. Although I was going through it, it was unfair to feed my child harmful food. If I remember correctly, doctor Hayes forbade me from taking ca
Lily I walked out of the door and got into my car, tears welled in my eyes. My heart twisted painfully in my chest, three years of marriage and for what. I twisted the key and the engine roared to life, I knew where I was going. I was going to see the person who never stopped loving me and caring for me, even though sometimes I got stubborn. I drove into the hospital's parking lot and took the elevator to my mother's room. She was on the fourth floor. The elevator's door slid open and the smell of detergent and medicine hit my nose. I walked hastily to my mother's room door. I hesitated at the door for a few minutes before tightening my fingers around the door handle and finally pushing it open. The room smelled of antiseptic and silence. It was quiet, not peaceful, just quiet which made my heart shift painfully in my chest. My mother laid there, tubes running through her mouth and nose, the machines were the only things that dared to make a sound. “Mum,” I called out, my voice
LilyI blinked at his words, I had been waiting for him to say the words but I didn't expect them to hurt this much, my heart twisted in my chest, he didn't even bother to explain how this all happened. I wanted to know when he began to cheat on me, when he and my sister decided that it was best for them to have an affair.“Divorce,” I said gulping, “ alright.” Something like confusion pasted in his face but it was long gone a second after it appeared. Was he expecting me to beg, I would never, infact I would never stoop so low to their infidelity and beg, all that I had experiencef in this marriage was scorn, not forgetting how his mother had mistreated me for being barren, and now this, I think it would be best if I leave.“I'll have my lawyer draft the papers and sent them to you, make sure you sign them,” he said in a deep voice. I nodded my head and made my way to the stairs when his voice stopped me. “And by the way, Vivian is sleeping in the master bedroom, please don't do anyt
LilyThe whole night there was no sign of Nolan, he didn't even come up to check on me. I stayed up all night contemplating of my next move, but I knew that bitch Vivian has a lot of schemes up her sleeve. Saves me the trouble. In the morning I woke up, I went to the mirror and saw a ghostly figure staring back at me. I was pale and my eyes had bags for staying up all night. And I had starved my baby yesterday. I needed something to eat as my stomach grumbled.I walked out of my room and headed for the stairs, just then Vivian appeared In front of me, it's like she had been waiting for me to come up from the room. She gave me a wide smile and without saying a word she screamed, “Lily no, please let me go,” she made to fall down the stairs but I held her hand, she pulled me making the both of us to roll down the stairs together. The pain was incrustating, I held my stomach, trying to protect my baby, while Vivian cried so loud, drawing the servants attention. I didn't know Nolan was a
LilyMy bag slipped from my hand and fell on the floor, making a thud sound. It caught their attention. I closed my mouth with my hand as tears welled in my eyes. I felt like someone was chopping my heart into many pieces.I heard Nolan's heavy footsteps walking towards the door. I panicked then picked my bag in a swift move then ran from the door and headed down the stairs.I could hear Vivian's irritating voice calling Nolan. I ran out of the house and walked outside the gate. My hands were shaking and my feet were trembling, they almost gave me away.I shoved a taxi and got in, I let out a wail, making the taxi man raise his eyebrows. He stretched his hand to the back of the taxi and gave me a wipe. “Thankyou,” I mumbled in between sobs.“Where to ma'am?” He asked in a concerned voice. “ Celestial apartments,” I said. He nodded then drove off. I stood outside the grey door, my eyes burning with tears and my nose blocked. I rang the door bell, within a few seconds the door opened.
