I was woken up with a sharp scream coming from outside, it was no doubt that it was Vivian seeking attention. Nolan stood up from the bed panicking, he didn't even bother to put a shirt on as he ran out of the room. I rolled my eyes as I followed him to the guest room. He walked towards Vivian's bedside and held her in her arms. She looked like a scared little cat, even I could have been fooled by her act, were it for us not growing up together. She wore a silky red night gown which exposed her body, she was curled up her head touching her knees as she mumbled something. Her thighs and her back were exposed and this infuriated me. Nolan held her in his arms as he mumbled something to calm her down. How cute. I stood by the door as a statue. As if remembering something Nolan looked up at me, “ shouldn't you be sleeping?” He asked flatly. I wanted to say something but my words didn't come out. “Go and get some sleep, I'll take care of her?” He commanded. “But Nolan, she looks fine to me, she's a grown woman for christ sake,” his eyes threw daggers at him like what I had said infuriated him. I didn't want to argue and walked out of the room and went back to our bedroom. Nolan didn't come back the whole night. I paced on the bed but sleep didn't come. Early in the morning he came back, he didn't say a word to me and didn't even spare me a glance. I felt like my heart was being squeezed into a tiny ball. “Did you sleep with her?” I asked in a shaky voice, well aware of the answer but I wanted to hear it from him. “Vivian had a bad dream and was scared, so I stayed holding her as I comforted her.” I laughed inwardly, scared? What was that bitch scared of? And Nolan didn't even have any shame and just blurted it out. My husband slept with another woman under our roof and didn't even care about how I would feel, because she was scared. He walked into the shower, took a long bath, which made me even wonder what it was that he was washing off for ages. He then came into the room, picked out a white shirt and a black tailored suit. He went into the dressing room and put it on, like he was afraid that I would see him naked. My eyes burned. He didn't say a word after that as he walked out of the room. I stayed in my room until midday when I remembered that someone was growing inside me and needed to be fed. I went to the kitchen to prepare myself something. But then I found Vivian, still in her nightgown ordering the servants around as if she was the madam of the house. “What do you think you're doing?” I asked between clenched teeth. She looked at me and curled her eyes into a mocking smile. “Can't you see, your servants are lazy and I'm teaching them how they're supposed to act.” “Oh really, and who told you that you could do that?” I asked. “Well, you should be more worried about yourself, did you catch a cold from sleeping alone,” she said in a pitiful voice. I laughed, same old ways, pretending to be pitiful just to get attention, which I had to hand it to her, she was doing great. And everyone always bought her act. “I don't have time for this,” I said as I walked past her and made my way to the kitchen. She seemed annoyed at my response. “Don't worry, they're not here to watch your act,” I told her, Nolan had gone to work and if she wanted to pretend that I was bullying her, no one would come to save her. I made myself a sandwich and devoured it. I walked back to my room, I took a quick shower, changed my clothes, I wore a simple black loose dress and tied my hair into a bun. I didn't want to hurt the baby with tight clothes. I wanted to go back to the hospital, I had many questions for the doctor and yesterday he had told me something and I was so shocked I didn't even inquire about my diet. I sat quietly in the chair as doctor Hayes went through a file, my hands clasped tightly in my lap as I tried not to overthink, he then turned his gaze towards the screen. “Your baby is growing healthy.” He began. I let out a breath I didn't realize I had been holding. This was my first time being pregnant and I had been living a lie knowing that I was infertile, so I guess it was okay to overthink a little. “At six weeks, your baby is very tiny,” he continued, “ about the size of a lentil, but this is a very important stage.” A lentil, well that's tiny. I almost let out a chuckle but my throat tightened. I let my hand drift to my stomach, like I could feel something. My small lentil. “Right now, the brain, spinal cord, and heart are forming,” he continued in a calm but steady voice. “So what you do from this point really matters.” My chest tightened at his words, I was already going through a lot with Vivian now in my house and my own husband acting like her husband. That stressed me out. Doctor Hayes continued talking about my diet and some vitamin supplements, I nodded to all his words. After what seemed like eternity I finally walked out of the room, I felt rejuvenated, like I was going to start a whole new life with different habits. After coming from the hospital I went to the mall to look at baby stuff and their prizes. I was determined to do this and also inform Nolan, I didn't care about his reaction, but it couldn't be that bad. Mark drove me back to the villa later that evening. The house was quiet when I arrived, I figured that Nolan wasn't back yet, and that bitch Vivian, I didn't care where she was, she could rot in hell for all I cared. I walked to my room and I heard mumbling coming from the master bedroom. I frowned, this was supposed to be my room and Nolan's, or was it the servants cleaning, but at this hour of the day, I doubted. The door was slightly ajar, curiosity got the better part of me and I leaned my ear to hear what was going on. “We need to tell her,” I heard that familiar voice. It was Vivian. Tell me what? I pondered. “ Give me time, I will tell her when the time is right,” came Nolan's deep voice. “Right time,” Vivian complained, “ and when will that be huh? When the baby is five?” She said. I frowned, a baby? What baby? “Nolan I'm pregnant for you, and if you don't tell her I will.”Lily I walked out of the door and got into my car, tears welled in my eyes. My heart twisted painfully in my chest, three years of marriage and for what. I twisted the key and the engine roared to life, I knew where I was going. I was going to see the person who never stopped loving me and caring for me, even though sometimes I got stubborn. I drove into the hospital's parking lot and took the elevator to my mother's room. She was on the fourth floor. The elevator's door slid open and the smell of detergent and medicine hit my nose. I walked hastily to my mother's room door. I hesitated at the door for a few minutes before tightening my fingers around the door handle and finally pushing it open. The room smelled of antiseptic and silence. It was quiet, not peaceful, just quiet which made my heart shift painfully in my chest. My mother laid there, tubes running through her mouth and nose, the machines were the only things that dared to make a sound. “Mum,” I called out, my voice
LilyI blinked at his words, I had been waiting for him to say the words but I didn't expect them to hurt this much, my heart twisted in my chest, he didn't even bother to explain how this all happened. I wanted to know when he began to cheat on me, when he and my sister decided that it was best for them to have an affair.“Divorce,” I said gulping, “ alright.” Something like confusion pasted in his face but it was long gone a second after it appeared. Was he expecting me to beg, I would never, infact I would never stoop so low to their infidelity and beg, all that I had experiencef in this marriage was scorn, not forgetting how his mother had mistreated me for being barren, and now this, I think it would be best if I leave.“I'll have my lawyer draft the papers and sent them to you, make sure you sign them,” he said in a deep voice. I nodded my head and made my way to the stairs when his voice stopped me. “And by the way, Vivian is sleeping in the master bedroom, please don't do anyt
LilyThe whole night there was no sign of Nolan, he didn't even come up to check on me. I stayed up all night contemplating of my next move, but I knew that bitch Vivian has a lot of schemes up her sleeve. Saves me the trouble. In the morning I woke up, I went to the mirror and saw a ghostly figure staring back at me. I was pale and my eyes had bags for staying up all night. And I had starved my baby yesterday. I needed something to eat as my stomach grumbled.I walked out of my room and headed for the stairs, just then Vivian appeared In front of me, it's like she had been waiting for me to come up from the room. She gave me a wide smile and without saying a word she screamed, “Lily no, please let me go,” she made to fall down the stairs but I held her hand, she pulled me making the both of us to roll down the stairs together. The pain was incrustating, I held my stomach, trying to protect my baby, while Vivian cried so loud, drawing the servants attention. I didn't know Nolan was a
LilyMy bag slipped from my hand and fell on the floor, making a thud sound. It caught their attention. I closed my mouth with my hand as tears welled in my eyes. I felt like someone was chopping my heart into many pieces.I heard Nolan's heavy footsteps walking towards the door. I panicked then picked my bag in a swift move then ran from the door and headed down the stairs.I could hear Vivian's irritating voice calling Nolan. I ran out of the house and walked outside the gate. My hands were shaking and my feet were trembling, they almost gave me away.I shoved a taxi and got in, I let out a wail, making the taxi man raise his eyebrows. He stretched his hand to the back of the taxi and gave me a wipe. “Thankyou,” I mumbled in between sobs.“Where to ma'am?” He asked in a concerned voice. “ Celestial apartments,” I said. He nodded then drove off. I stood outside the grey door, my eyes burning with tears and my nose blocked. I rang the door bell, within a few seconds the door opened.

Lily “What the fuck are you doing here,” I said between clenched teeth.Nolan stood from his chair as if not expecting me. “Lily, what are you doing here?” He asked unbothered by my outburst.“ Well you should tell me what she's doing here?”Vivian rolled her eyes, then she stood from the chair that was across Nolan's, she wore a red dress that hugged her curves, her mouth was red with exergerated red lipstick “ hello dear sister, long time no see, what? Aren't you happy to see me?” She asked, her voice feigning being wronged.“Happy, are you out of your fucking mind, what the hell are you doing in my husband's office.”“That's enough,” Nolan shouted, I looked at him with disbelief. He looked unfazed. “ Lily what are you doing here,” he asked in an irritated tone, as expected.Nolan had never really seen me as his wife, he always acted so cold towards me for reasons unknown to me. And now he was protecting my stepsisters feelings not caring about how that made me feel.“ I wanted to
