Chapter 1

Hailey:

"Do I look okay in this dress?" I asked, as I looked at myself in the mirror.

I pulled at the bottom of the dress. The dress was stuck to my body in places I did not want it to be. It showed skin that I did not want it to show.

Maddison turned around and smiled at me, her smile did not look real.

"You look perfect, Hailey," she said.

"Just trust me." The word perfect did not sound right to me. I looked like I was trying too hard to fit in. The dress was too small and too short. I did not have any other choice. All I had were servant clothes and hand-me-downs that made me look poor and the worst part was that I didn’t even have money to get new dresses.

Maddison reminded me of the rules.

"Remember, do not go near the triplets. They do not like people in their space. Do not look them in the eye. Do not talk to them unless they talk to you first.. Please do not embarrass me."

There were always rules. These rules felt like they were choking me. I had to be careful what I did. Said. I had to remember my place.

I wanted to say something mean. I did not. I had wanted to go to one of the triplet alphas’ parties for a time.

When I was the beta’s daughter, I could dream about them but now, I am a nobody.

When we got to the party it was loud and fun. The lights bounced seductively off the large walls, bathing the laughing and dancing bodies in dim light.  The air smelled like alcohol and rich pretentious people and this made me feel I didn't belong.

It has been four years since my life changed. Four years since Alpha Thorne died and his three sons took over. Four years since my father, Beta Marcus was accused of doing something wrong and thrown in jail.

They said they had proof, but I knew my father would never do anything bad to Alpha Thorne. Never!

The triplets did not care about the truth. All they cared about was swift and merciless justice, the type that was given to my father.

One day I was Beta Marcus’ daughter, next in line for a position in the pack hierarchy and then the next day I was stripped of everything, my title, my home, and my future.

Now, my family was the pack’s tale of action and consequences and I became their slave, forced to atone for sins I did not commit or even had anything to do with.

"Come on " Maddison grabbed my wrist, her nails digging in slightly.

"VIP section." The crowd parted for her like she was royalty. I guess she was in a way. Her father was the pack's head warrior and she had grown up alongside the triplets. She clearly belonged here while I knew that as of now, I did not.

The VIP lounge overlooked the floor separated by velvet ropes and the kind of exclusivity that made my skin crawl.  Eyes turned toward us as we entered, toward me specifically because I felt their gazes like lingering sweaty fingers, assessing, judging, and dismissing me.

As we continued, the whispers followed.

"That's her. The traitor's daughter."

"Can't believe she has the nerve to show her face here." Another person said.

"Probably hoping the Alphas will take pity on her. Pathetic." Each word, a new dagger between my ribs but I couldn’t let them break me so I kept my chin up and my expression blank not giving them the satisfaction of getting to me, even if they did.

Then I saw them, Royce first. The second triplet, all charm and dangerous smiles, leaned against the bar as he owned it, which technically he did.

His dark hair fell perfectly across his forehead and his ice-blue eyes swept the room with interest.

It didn’t take long before Maddison launched herself at him. It was so shameless but I watched, frozen as my supposed best friend threw her arms around Royce's neck, pressing her body, breast first against him with a familiarity that made my stomach turn. He caught her easily, his hands sliding down to her waist and then down to her ass as she whispered something in his ear that made him laugh.

Then Killian appeared, the third triplet, he might have been quieter than the other two but he was no less lethal. Where Royce was fire, Killian was ice. Calculating. Patient and Deadly.

Maddison did not hesitate. She pulled away from Royce long enough to throw herself at Killian with the same desperate enthusiasm, her fingers tangling in his shirt as she pressed a kiss to his jaw.

The rage hit me fast and I could not breathe.

She knew that was what made it hurt the most!

Maddison knew I had had feelings for the triplets since we were teenagers. She knew because I had been stupid enough to confide in her back when I thought friendship meant something. Now she was parading herself in front of them, touching them, trying to claim them, and all the while I stood there in this ridiculous dress she had chosen specifically to humiliate me.

It was now very clear she wasn’t trying to be nice when she encouraged me to wear this ugly dress, she just wanted to humiliate me and put me in the place she thought I belonged.

I guess girls like me did not get endings with boys like them and she wanted me to know this.

My cracks were showing, I was breaking and I needed to leave. I took a step back, then another but nobody noticed, but then again, why would they? I was, after all, a nobody.

I rushed to the bathroom where the cold tile and harsh fluorescent lighting had become my happy place and that in itself was sad. I gripped the sink and stared at my reflection, at the girl who used to have dreams, used to believe in fairness and happy endings and mates who actually wanted you.

"I hate this, " I whispered to myself.

"I hate all of this." I  hated being a slave, and I hated scrubbing floors while others danced. I hated serving wolves who used to bow to my father and definitely hated the pitying looks and the cruel whispers and the suffocating reality that this was my life now.

The bathroom door slammed against the wall as I angrily opened it, my vision still blurred with angry tears. I had things to say. I took one step forward. Slammed into a wall of solid muscle.

The impact knocked the air from my lungs. I stumbled backward, arms windmilling uselessly as gravity claimed me. Strong hands caught my waist before I hit the ground, steadying me with strength.

"Careful " a deep voice rumbled above me.

I looked up. Axel. The first triplet. The oldest. The most dangerous.

His silver eyes locked onto mine as the world shifted and heat exploded across my forearm suddenly and searingly. I gasped, clutching my arm as three crescent-shaped marks burned themselves into existence on my skin glowing with light.

No No no no!

Axel's gaze dropped to my arm, his expression transformed from surprise to horror in the span of a heartbeat.

His grip on my waist tightened painfully as he grabbed my marked arm yanking it toward him to examine the proof blazing across my skin.

"No!" His voice was ice.

"You cannot be our mate." He started pulling me, not toward the exit but rather deeper into the VIP section.

Toward his brothers. His fingers dug into my arm hard enough to bruise and panic exploded through my chest like shrapnel.

“Let me go, please..” I begged.

They would reject me. In front of everyone. They would make a spectacle of my humiliation of the moon goddess. What a cruel joke this was!

Paring the Triplet Alphas with a traitor’s daughter.

I could not let that happen. I twisted violently using every trick I had learned scrubbing floors and avoiding unwanted attention.

My arm slipped from his grip, slick with the sweat of terror. Then I ran, and behind  me, Axel’s roar shook the walls

"STOP!"
