Seraphine stood beyond the security gate, drenched in white from head to toe — trench coat, gloves, boots — but it wasn’t the clothes that made Anais stop breathing.

It was the stillness. The terrifying calm in her stance. The way her eyes, a cold shade of violet, locked straight into the security camera like she knew exactly where it was.

“She knows we’re watching,” Anais said, her voice low.

Cassian didn’t reply. He was already at the console, typing in a silent override code to stall the alarm system. His hands moved fast, but his jaw was tense — clenched in that way that usually meant one thing: he knew more than he was saying.

“I need you to talk to me,” Anais said, stepping beside him. “Who is she, really?”

Cassian didn’t look at her. Not right away.

“When we were still part of the program, before you were reassigned, Seraphine was one of the control agents,” he said. “She wasn’t like the handlers. She was off the books — someone they sent in when compliance methods failed.”

Anaïs stood in the hallway, motionless. The news report on the TV behind her kept playing on loop, but she didn’t turn to look at it again. She couldn’t. The words were already burned into her head — “Folu Alade, political analyst and civil rights activist, is in critical condition after a violent assault…”Her phone slipped from her hand, clattering to the floor. She barely heard it. What echoed in her mind was the message — If you don’t return what you stole, someone you love will bleed for it.Folu had bled for it.The air felt thin in her lungs. Cassian had stepped in behind her at some point, quiet but alert, his jaw tight and his body still. He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to. The way she was standing — rigid, too still — told him everything.Anaïs finally moved. She turned away from the TV and walked past him without a word. Straight into the bedroom. She opened the wardrobe and reached for the box at the top. Her fingers trembled, but she forced them to work.Cassian followed

  • Twice His Wife   Chapter 87-A BLADE BETWEEN THE RIBS.

She couldn’t hear the anchor’s voice anymore. Just the sharp ringing in her ears, like a fire alarm that wouldn’t shut off.Anaïs blinked once.Twice.The words were still there, in that bold crawl at the bottom of the screen:BREAKING: FOLU ALADE ATTACKED. CONDITION UNKNOWN.Her knees went out.Cassian caught her just before she hit the marble, gripping her shoulders hard like he was anchoring her to reality. But his voice—his voice was shaking.“What is it?” he asked. “Anaïs, what—”She turned the screen to him.His eyes widened. And for one terrifying second, even Cassian—the man who never cracked—looked afraid.“No,” Anaïs said. “No. No, no, no—”She broke free from him, snatching her phone, bolting into the hallway like a woman possessed. She didn’t care that her shoes slapped the marble. Didn’t care that her dress was falling off one shoulder. She just needed to see. She needed proof. She needed to know this wasn’t real. She called Folu. It rang once.Twice.Three times. No answ

The message glared back at her, black letters sharp on a white screen, burning like acid through her chest. If you don’t return what you stole, someone you love will bleed for it.Anaïs didn’t move. Couldn’t. Her hand stayed frozen mid-air, phone trembling in her grip as her eyes stayed locked on that sentence. The room around her went still — Cassian’s footsteps had stopped behind her. He was watching her, waiting, and she knew he’d seen the change in her face. The flicker of something icy and sick washing over her.“Who was that?” Cassian asked quietly. She locked the phone and turned it face down on the table.“No one,” she lied.“Anaïs.”She stood. “It’s nothing.”But it wasn’t. And they both knew it.The walls of the apartment suddenly felt too close. The sound of her own heartbeat crowded her ears. She could feel her breath trying to escape faster than she could keep it in.Cassian took a step forward. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”“No. I’m fine,” she said too quickly. “I

They say silence is golden, but the silence that followed the message Anaïs received felt like lead in her throat. The text was simple. Untraceable. No sender. Just:“We have the ledger. Tell Cassian, and you both fall.”She stared at the screen as if the message might vanish. As if she could will it out of existence. But it stayed — blinking in the soft light of her hotel room.Cassian hadn’t said anything since she walked away from him outside. Maybe he was giving her space. Maybe he was bleeding in a way she couldn’t fix. Either way, she knew this: the storm wasn’t coming. It was here. And the storm had teeth.Anaïs didn’t sleep. The night dragged itself across her body like barbed wire. She paced, she drank cold coffee, she scrolled through encrypted files from the server drive she had stolen — the one they thought would give them leverage. Except now, the real threat had leverage over her.She had burned too many bridges to run to anyone. Not Julien, not even Maris. Not now. When

  • Twice His Wife   Chapter 84-THE KIND OF SILENCE THAT BURNS.

I wish I could tell you that Anaïs was fine the morning after. That the bruises were only political, that the betrayal hadn’t cut into bone. But if you’d seen her then — the way she sat with her back against the hotel room door like she was trying to keep the world out with her spine — you’d know better. She hadn’t slept. Not really. Just stared at the edge of the coffee table for hours, unmoving, while Folu typed furiously on a burner phone, trying to clean up whatever pieces they still had left to work with. He didn’t say much. Not even when the reports started rolling in from every network and every angle. Anaïs Onyx: The Fall of a Billion-Dollar Lie.The air was stale. The windows were locked shut. No light came in. Not even the kind that makes you feel alive. And Cassian? Gone. She hadn’t tried to call. She didn’t know what to say. Didn’t want to hear how his voice would sound if it broke. The silence wasn’t peace. It was punishment. But silence never lasts.Folu looked up from h

  • Twice His Wife   Chapter 83-THE HOUR AFTER THE FIRE.

You ever watch someone keep smiling while everything around them is falling apart? That was Anaïs. She sat on the edge of a sleek conference table in an unfamiliar high-rise downtown, legs crossed at the ankle, hands folded too neatly in her lap. She looked like a woman about to give a pitch, not someone whose life was burning from the inside out.Cassian stood beside the window, facing away. The view outside was breathtaking, all steel and clouds and silence, but it wasn’t what held him there. He couldn’t look at her.“You don’t have to say anything,” Anaïs said softly, voice like paper tearing. He didn’t turn. She took a breath. “I already know. You’re furious. You’re—”“I’m not furious,” he cut in. His voice was steady, but it wasn’t calm. “I’m trying not to hate you.”That made her blink. Her fingers clenched in her lap.“I didn’t plan it like this,” she said. “Angela going public—none of us saw it coming.”“That’s not what I’m talking about.”He finally turned around. And the loo
