"Here, change your clothes with these for now," William said handing her his big clothes and his boxer.
Brieanna took the clothes he handed. She cleared her throat and looked at the side. "Thank you," she said shyly.
"We'll get you new clothes tomorrow. More comfortable ones than my old clothes. Also you can change in that room," he said and pointed a room. "My room is in the opposite side. You're staying with me while you're in this island."
She couldn't say anything, it's embarrassing that she's going to stay in William's place.
"I'm going out to get us food. Don't try to kill yourself. Be good and feel at home." After saying that William left.
Brieanna was still wrapped up in that thick blanket. She stand up and made her way to the room that he said. Inside, she took off her underwear and put the dry clothes on. She was hesitating to wear his boxer but whatever she thought. It's better than wearing nothing under the big shirt.
She looked at herself in the mirror and then smiled. "You're so brave to have really done that. Now, why don't we give life a second chance? Who knows it might be a little better now."
Brieanna thought it was embarrassing to live with him for free. She thought of going home but she's not ready nor could she go. She doesn't have any money nor an identification card to go wherever. Her identity is drowned deep down the ocean. It's like, she jumped and left her past together with her belongings deep under. It's like a fresh start for her in this island.
Her gaze accidentally focused on the view outside her tinted window- she meant his tinted window. She gasped when she realized this was the place she...
The moment when she asked him if he comes to the place often came back to her.
"Ugh! He lives here that's why he said yeah!" She yelled and collapsed on the bed. She took a pillow and hugged it while she toss and turn.
William went to the night market to buy them both food. He know he could've been at his resort but he doesn't want to tell her that he owns that place. He bought different foods and when he was about to go he saw a stall who makes different personalize bracelets.
He smiled when he thought maybe he should get her one. So he went inside.
"Hey," he greeted the guy vendor who had few tattoos on his arm.
"Hello, good evening sir," the vendor greeted back. He seemed friendly, he thought.
"Yeah you too and uh... I'd like to buy a personalized bracelet for my... uhm."
William doesn't know the right word to describe Brieanna at the moment. All he knows is that he likes her and that he wants her to live.
The vendor grinned and chuckled at him. "I know! It's for someone you like," the vendor said and took a paper and pen. "Draw how you want the bracelet to be and what's written in it."
William isn't good at drawing but it's whatever, he wanted this. So, he wants something that is thin and light. A black string laced into braids and will be connected to a rectangular shaped varnished coconut shell with a width of an inch and half and length of a fourth of an inch.
The words carved should be 'lost souls' with a rose at the left side of the other bracelet and right on the other one. He wants two, and that's for her and him. He wanted it tied in a adjustable knots.
After finalizing everything, he gave his drawing with the details to the vendor. The guy stared at his drawing. Then after few minutes he put his drawing down.
"This design is really plain but very deep. Alright, tomorrow come back here with her. It should be all done tomorrow and you could show her the place," the vendor said and smiled.
William did the same and waved goodbye to the vendor. He thought the vendor wasn't going to accept the design he wanted.
On his way home he thought of what happened. She is really capable of killing herself and he bet nobody thought she would do it. The harder he pressed her chest, the eager he is to save her. Maybe, maybe they could be more than two lost souls.
"I'm home."
Brienna heard William yell. She stopped tossing and turning hearing his voice. What the heck is happening to her?She got up and walk out of her 'room' because she knows, if she doesn't go out, he will come inside.
"What took you long?" Brieanna questioned.
"I talked to townspeople for a while," William answered as he took the foods out of a paper bag.
Brieanna licked her lower lip and bite it as she saw the foods he bought. She never felt so excited to eat!
"Can I eat now?" She asked him being all impatiently cute.
William puffed out a breath and then secretly smiled. He nodded and she dig in with the food. Then he thought she must not be eating well this past few days. Staring at her as she eat and indulge with the food he brought makes him happy. She could watch her eat all night.
"Calm down, you might choke," he told her but she didn't pay attention at all.
Then his eye caught the bandage he put on her cut. It was filled with blood, he needs to dress it up again.
"When we're done eating, I'm going to dress your cut with another bandage," he told her.
Brieanna just nod. She might look like a pig in front of him right now but she doesn't care! She's really hungry!
After eating, they stayed in the living room to replace her bandage. William slowly took out the old bandage filled with blood. Then he took a cotton and filled it with a sanitizer and cleaned the side of her cut.
"Why did you even decided to cut when you're just gonna go drown? Either way you die," William asked.
"I cut so I won't feel scared to jump off the cliff," she answered honestly.
As he put anti infection to her wound, he noticed the scars on her wrist all the way up to her arm.
"Do you cut your skin often?" He asked as he put new bandage.
"If twice or thrice a week is often then yes I do. Sometimes it's every night... Cutting helps me to calm down, just like how smoking weed relieves stress though I don't smoke. I don't like drugs especially the other type of drugs."
That answer Brieanna gave him just made his entire body freeze for a few seconds. Now, how could he tell her that the man she is with right now was a drug addict?
"You sure you're okay wearing that?" William asked Brieanna for the 8th time now. Brieanna rolled her eyes as she closes the car door. "I told you it's fine. You helped me too much." "You help me more," William uttered and started to drive away. Brieanna doesn't know how to act around him anymore. She's quiet shy that she's indebted to him. At some point, she thinks they were destined to meet. How does a stranger save her like they already knew each other? "Do you surf?" He asked all a sudden that snapped Brie from thinking. "Hmm...no, I don't really." "Well, know how to?" He asked again.
At the house Brieanna immediately changed her clothes. She hasn't returned his clothes because she wanted to wash it first before giving it back to him. After changing, she went out and head to the dining table. She sat down facing William who was already eating. She remember what Dianne told her.New girl William brought...She continues to think about it, totally forgetting that William was in front of her."You know you can ask me if it's really that bothering," William uttered, snapping her out of her thoughts.Brieanna blinked thrice and cleared her throat. She took some hotdogs and bread completely disregarding what he uttered.
"So you basically did that?" William asked Brieanna. "Duh," she said and rolled her eyes. "I did so many crazy things but yeah that video just posted online on itself and everyone thinks I'm a slut and that's just fucked up." William chuckled, thinking that there was really more to this girl. He wish he could bring back the Brieanna she was just talking about. They just finished the fifteenth round of the game and now the sun is setting. "So what about you? How come you're living alone?" Brieanna asked. "I'm all grown up. I'm twenty four for Pete's sake," William cooly answered that made her raise a brow and gasped. "You're five years older than me!" She exclaimed. Not in her wi
"Took you long to get some drinks," Brieanna said, eyes narrowed at William. Being all alone and waiting in a crowded place isn't her favorite at all. "Sorry, I was caught on something," he replied, sitting beside her and handing her the water bottle. "You look like you were enjoying the lanterns though." "Yeah, they do look nice. They seem to light up everything in this night market." "I bet it makes your heart melt." Does it? Well it kind of, she thought. She was used to dark places. The ones that she can think clearly while the soft breeze touches her face or the ones that makes her lonely is her favorite. Something like this feels new to her since it has been a while.
It was time to be on her own. Brieanna took a deep breath and blew it out. Yes, she met everyone already and they all seemed nice but it's a job. It all starts nice.As she enters the kitchen again she keeps a nervous smile, nibbling her lower lip as she makes her way to the big sink. She was not alone, she will be closely working with a married woman in her 30s or so, named Veron."It's okay to get all shaky and slow at first," Veron tells her. "I used to think I'll break every plate here. I ended up my first shift with five expensive plates broken."That does not help her at all. If she breaks a costly plate, that is probably going to cost her five days of working. She should be extra careful. And so Veron taught her everything she needed to know. She was also told not to throw every left overs. Veron told her to segregate it, from the foods that should go directly to waste and the meats and rice they can feed stray animals."Wow, the
Dinner was quiet and after it William waited for Brieanna to finish washing the dishes. He already prepared a contract and the rules they needed to abide in his house. When she finally finished, she gaze down the papers as she sits in front of him. "What are these for?" she asked him. "I forgot to give you the work contract and this on my right are the few rules I would like you to follow. Also if there are things you want me to follow you should list it so we can talk about it." Brieanna looked at the contract first, reading it as if she understands. Then she took a glimpse at William and to the pen he prepared. She reached for it and signed the contract. "Didn't take you the exact time to read it," he uttered. "Well if I did, I would still not understand all of it," she told him, putting the the contract and taking the rules. The first rule was not to enter the room that is not yours and never enter nor open t
Finally, Brieanna's shift has come to its end. She has done a terrible work today and she earn herself a cut from the knife earlier too. As she walks out of the resort, she decided not to go home early. There was nothing to do there, she will just get bored laying and gazing at her ceiling. So, she starting wandering around the town. The town is sure a livelier place at night than at morning. Vendors were busy putting up their stalls at the moment, the street foods were already set up and tourists like she once was were busy taking pictures everywhere. Her stuffs crossed her mind. Should she go dive in the water and retrieve her stuffs? She's sure there were no damage to them since she sealed it with plastic. Problem is, she will probably run out of air before getting to the bottom. Brieanna deeply sighed. If only that cold William didn't save her she wouldn't be in this town, thinking about how to live. "Ano... excuse me." When sh
Brieanna stared at William's hand. Has anyone ever reached their hands for her to take, like this stranger in front of her? Has anyone ever waited for her to catch up to them? She slowly raised her head and saw how desperate he was. "Why are you so eager to save me?" "Because you haven't seen the best in life yet, Brie. You've only seen the dark side of it. You can't tell the devils nor the angels that you've seen everything down here when you're just exploring one side," he replied. "Please, Brie. Let's go home." They stayed staring at each other as if the cold didn't bother them both. She sees it. The way her eyes are when she looks at the mirror. His ocean blue eyes were the same as her hazel ones. Dull. Finally, she turned her body around and got off the parapet. She placed her hand on his and he pulled her into a hug that made her eyes wide. "Damn you, Brie! Don't make me hold my breath like that again!" He was breathing heavily, ti
