William was still catching his breath as he got home. He looked at where Brieanna always park her rented bike but there's nothing he saw. So he tossed his head up, frustrated that he couldn't find her!
Why would she say have a good life if she won't do anything? She could've said good night! He thought. Ugh! Where could she be?
William was about to go when at the far side of the next cliff he saw her spreading her arms. It looked like she was feeling the wind on her face. Her hair was being blown. He sighed in relief that he finally saw her alive and standing.
He closed his eyes and looked down for a moment to finally catch his breath. The moment he look back at where she's at his eyes widened, she was nowhere. He frowned at her sudden disappearance.
Have a good life, William.
He heard her voice again in his head. No! As soon as he realized what she was trying to do after all those going around the town he rushed to where she saw her.
"Brie!" He screamed as he run as fast as he could to that other side.
Reaching the edge he saw some drop of blood and a blade on the side. "No," he murmured and looked down. He won't let her die! He fucking needs to save that stupid lady.
Without any hesitation he dived in to the water and swam deeper. The moment he saw her, the eager he was to save her. He saw that she was a rope tied to her bag, he immediately untied her and pull her up to the surface.
He swam to the shore with her on his harm. As soon as they were on the sand he checked if she was still breathing but no, she was unresponsive.
So what he did was open the airway by placing one hand on the forehead to tilt her head back and use two fingers from the other hand to lift her chin .
Taking his hand from her forehead, he pinch the soft part of her nose. Allowing the mouth to fall open. With her head still tilted, he took a breath in and place his mouth over her moth forming a seal. He blew into her mouth for one second, until her chest rises. He took his mouth away and watch the chest fall.
He gave her five initial breaths before starting the CPR. After it, he started to do thirty compressions, interlocking his fingers making sure it was in the middle of her chest and not hitting any ribs. Then gave two breathes after every 30 compressions. He kept doing CPR but she was still not responding.
"Come on Brie! Breath! Fucking damn breath!" He yelled as he kept pressing down hard to a depth of 5-6 cm.
He was getting hopeless and tired until she coughed and opened her eyes. That gave him mixed emotions and he tilted her to recovery position. He also hugged her because she was shaking. Yeah, recovering someone from drowning ain't as easy as seeing it on TV.
Then he thought of hypothermia. He immediately lift her up in a bridal carry position and rush her inside his house. He put her on the sofa. He didn't want to do it but he could see she's getting cold and weak. He went to get a blanket and made her take off her wet dress and wrap her up with a thick warm blanket. He took a towel and dried her hair at-least.
Also he remembered her cut, so he went to get his first aid kit and treated that deep cut. He went in his room and changed his clothes as well then hurried back to her. He saw she was still closing her eyes but at-least not shaking and shivering anymore. He sighed in relief, he almost lost this stupid lady.
After few moments of monitoring Brieanna he finally saw her being okay. He decided to make a hot chocolate drink for her. Once he was back, he saw her sit up but still covered with that blanket.
He sat down in front of her, looking at her grumpy face. It looks like she really did not want to be saved at all. But whatever, he already did. He handed her the chocolate drink. "Drink it and let's talk once you're all okay."
He was about to go and gave her privacy when she spoke.
"You shouldn't have saved me," she said not looking at him.
That made William frowned. "So you wanted me to just let you die and drown?"
Brieanna didn't respond to him. So, he went back to sit down and stare at her.
"You're really stupid aren't you?" He asked her again.
"You're stupid! I almost had it! I was already in it and you jumped to freaking save me! I didn't ask for you to save me!" Brieanna yelled as her tears fell down. "Ending my pain isn't stupid!"
"You sound stupid to me," William uttered, looking straight at her eyes. "What were you thinking? That you're the only one who has issues? That you're the only one who is suffering from life? Look around you Brieanna. I almost thought I lost you! I almost gave up pressing hard on your damn chest! Seeing you like that pains me! And I know we are strangers but I don't want to see you die like that."
Brieanna continued to cry and she thought about what Fred told her. "Somebody once told me that he couldn't save me anymore. I can't save myself too, nobody wanted to."
"I saved you. I want to save you so those people who didn't do it could go fuck theirselves!"
Brieanna continued to cry. "I didn't want to be saved. There's nothing more for me to live for."
"Yeah? Then what about last night? Didn't those light felt magical to you? Didn't it give you hope and taught you something?" He continuously asked. "If you want to find something beautiful then you gotta look at awful side first, Brie. Look for something beautiful in those scars of yours."
Brieanna knows he's right but she's just too lost to find anything. Her scars aren't just scars, they are what is still hurting her inside.
William tossed his head back and sighed. He doesn't like seeing her tears. He moved to her side and cupped Brie's face. He then wiped her tears away and hugged her.
"I'm here for you. I'll jump off a cliff a thousand more if that means keeping you alive," William whispered to her.
Brieanna eyes went round. She has never felt so comfortable and relieved for the past almost six years of her life. For the first time in those years, she found a safe place in someone's arms. A stranger's embrace.
"Here, change your clothes with these for now," William said handing her his big clothes and his boxer. Brieanna took the clothes he handed. She cleared her throat and looked at the side. "Thank you," she said shyly. "We'll get you new clothes tomorrow. More comfortable ones than my old clothes. Also you can change in that room," he said and pointed a room. "My room is in the opposite side. You're staying with me while you're in this island." She couldn't say anything, it's embarrassing that she's going to stay in William's place. "I'm going out to get us food. Don't try to kill yourself. Be good and feel at home." After saying that William left. Brieanna was still wrapped up in
"You sure you're okay wearing that?" William asked Brieanna for the 8th time now. Brieanna rolled her eyes as she closes the car door. "I told you it's fine. You helped me too much." "You help me more," William uttered and started to drive away. Brieanna doesn't know how to act around him anymore. She's quiet shy that she's indebted to him. At some point, she thinks they were destined to meet. How does a stranger save her like they already knew each other? "Do you surf?" He asked all a sudden that snapped Brie from thinking. "Hmm...no, I don't really." "Well, know how to?" He asked again.
At the house Brieanna immediately changed her clothes. She hasn't returned his clothes because she wanted to wash it first before giving it back to him. After changing, she went out and head to the dining table. She sat down facing William who was already eating. She remember what Dianne told her.New girl William brought...She continues to think about it, totally forgetting that William was in front of her."You know you can ask me if it's really that bothering," William uttered, snapping her out of her thoughts.Brieanna blinked thrice and cleared her throat. She took some hotdogs and bread completely disregarding what he uttered.
"So you basically did that?" William asked Brieanna. "Duh," she said and rolled her eyes. "I did so many crazy things but yeah that video just posted online on itself and everyone thinks I'm a slut and that's just fucked up." William chuckled, thinking that there was really more to this girl. He wish he could bring back the Brieanna she was just talking about. They just finished the fifteenth round of the game and now the sun is setting. "So what about you? How come you're living alone?" Brieanna asked. "I'm all grown up. I'm twenty four for Pete's sake," William cooly answered that made her raise a brow and gasped. "You're five years older than me!" She exclaimed. Not in her wi
"Took you long to get some drinks," Brieanna said, eyes narrowed at William. Being all alone and waiting in a crowded place isn't her favorite at all. "Sorry, I was caught on something," he replied, sitting beside her and handing her the water bottle. "You look like you were enjoying the lanterns though." "Yeah, they do look nice. They seem to light up everything in this night market." "I bet it makes your heart melt." Does it? Well it kind of, she thought. She was used to dark places. The ones that she can think clearly while the soft breeze touches her face or the ones that makes her lonely is her favorite. Something like this feels new to her since it has been a while.
It was time to be on her own. Brieanna took a deep breath and blew it out. Yes, she met everyone already and they all seemed nice but it's a job. It all starts nice.As she enters the kitchen again she keeps a nervous smile, nibbling her lower lip as she makes her way to the big sink. She was not alone, she will be closely working with a married woman in her 30s or so, named Veron."It's okay to get all shaky and slow at first," Veron tells her. "I used to think I'll break every plate here. I ended up my first shift with five expensive plates broken."That does not help her at all. If she breaks a costly plate, that is probably going to cost her five days of working. She should be extra careful. And so Veron taught her everything she needed to know. She was also told not to throw every left overs. Veron told her to segregate it, from the foods that should go directly to waste and the meats and rice they can feed stray animals."Wow, the
Dinner was quiet and after it William waited for Brieanna to finish washing the dishes. He already prepared a contract and the rules they needed to abide in his house. When she finally finished, she gaze down the papers as she sits in front of him. "What are these for?" she asked him. "I forgot to give you the work contract and this on my right are the few rules I would like you to follow. Also if there are things you want me to follow you should list it so we can talk about it." Brieanna looked at the contract first, reading it as if she understands. Then she took a glimpse at William and to the pen he prepared. She reached for it and signed the contract. "Didn't take you the exact time to read it," he uttered. "Well if I did, I would still not understand all of it," she told him, putting the the contract and taking the rules. The first rule was not to enter the room that is not yours and never enter nor open t
Finally, Brieanna's shift has come to its end. She has done a terrible work today and she earn herself a cut from the knife earlier too. As she walks out of the resort, she decided not to go home early. There was nothing to do there, she will just get bored laying and gazing at her ceiling. So, she starting wandering around the town. The town is sure a livelier place at night than at morning. Vendors were busy putting up their stalls at the moment, the street foods were already set up and tourists like she once was were busy taking pictures everywhere. Her stuffs crossed her mind. Should she go dive in the water and retrieve her stuffs? She's sure there were no damage to them since she sealed it with plastic. Problem is, she will probably run out of air before getting to the bottom. Brieanna deeply sighed. If only that cold William didn't save her she wouldn't be in this town, thinking about how to live. "Ano... excuse me." When sh
