The Knock At The Door

Selina and Xavier quickly settled the bill at the restaurant and headed out into the street. As they walked, Selina couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching them. She looked over her shoulder, but the streets were empty. Xavier noticed her unease and tried to reassure her, but it did little to calm her nerves. The air seemed thicker, the streetlights a little dimmer.

They reached Xavier's apartment building, a tall, nondescript structure that seemed to blend into the cityscape. As they rode up the elevator, Selina could feel her heartbeat quickening. She knew she should probably turn back, but something inside her urged her to keep going. The elevator doors opened, and they stepped out into the hallway. Xavier fished out a key and unlocked his apartment door.

"Welcome to my humble abode," he said, trying to lighten the mood.

" Thanks!" She faked a smile, and he pushed the door open and ushered her in.
