Isaac
By the time I made it to Taylor’s office she was already there and surprisingly waiting outside for me. Then again, maybe that shouldn’t have been surprising.
“Will I get towed if I park here?” I asked after getting out of my car. I was headed to the parking garage, but I couldn’t just let her stand out in the cold waiting for me.
“You won’t be here long enough,” she said.
Well, damn. “Are you asking me to leave?”
“That’s their job,” she said as she glanced behind her.
Taylor The police had been crawling all over the office and our houses for almost two weeks now. We had to spin a story of a jealous ex-husband hiring someone to kill me. As a favor for not letting his wife leave him high and dry, the chief of police ordered twenty-four hour surveillance for me. Yesterday he called to tell me the threat was no longer present so I should be fine. The surveillance had been a blessing as well as a curse. Aaron was forced to comply with the restraining order I had against him, but I might as well have had one against Isaac too. It was funny how I’d spent the last seven years of my life completely engulfed in Aaron, but it was Isaac I missed. Technically, I’d only spent a few hours with him. Well, technically, I should hate him. And technically, only a bottle of wine would solve these nagging problems. I locked my office and headed downstairs.
TaylorSomeone calling my name woke me up. I cracked my eyes open with a groan. Isaac was sitting next to me on the bed. “Come ride with me,” he said when he saw I was awake. Didn’t I let him sleep? Whatever happened to do unto others? I pulled the blanket over my head and he laughed. “I know you’re hungry, I heard your stomach growling in your sleep,” he said. “That would imply that you were sitting there watching me sleep…not creepy at all,” I said. “Why didn’t you wake me up?” he asked.&
TaylorMy pity party lasted until the following Thursday. By then Blakely was fed up and while I was sitting on the couch eating candy bars she used her key to let herself in. “Ugh, you look so damn needy. This doesn’t work for me,” she said as she took her coat off. “Screw you. Let yourself back out,” I said. “Come on, we’re going out,” she informed me as she stood in front of the TV. She was wearing a sexy little red dress that hugged her curves nicely. Her dark caramel complexion made red look gorgeous on her. Too bad she wasted an outfit. &ldqu
Taylor Someone was playing a bass drum inside my head. That was the only explanation for the pain I was in as I forced myself to open my eyes. I wished last night was a blur. I wished I didn’t remember everything I said or did, but I do, so embarrassment came with the memories. I kissed Isaac. Hell, I threw up on Isaac. He never said anything, but I knew he had to be mad. If the tables were turned I’d be mad. I glanced down at the foot of the bed and saw that he wasn’t there. That was where he was lying when I fell asleep. He didn’t even bother taking me home. Not that I could blame him with the vomit and all. Throw in the fact that Blakely had my keys, purse, and phone and it made even more sense. He tried to get me to eat some fruits - grapes or something - and take some medicine, but I pushed him away and refused. When he tried to get me to drink some water,
Taylor Forget him. This wasn’t about him. This was about me. Me being too caring, too willing. Me being too available…too damned stupid. I made the water hotter and tried to block her out, but this was Blakely we were dealing with. You could only ignore her if she wanted you to. She opened the door to the shower and stood there with her hands on her hips. “Don’t mind me, I’m just naked,” I said without looking at her. She reached into the shower and turned the water off before throwing a towel at me. “Get out of the shower, Taylor,” she commanded. I wanted to tell her to get out of my house, but it would be pointless. She’d leave only when she was ready. I threw on some tights and a t-shirt and got in my bed. “Covering your head doesn’t keep you from hearing me,” she said as she lay next to me. No, but it kept her from seeing if I cried again, which I hoped I wouldn’t do. She tried to pull the blanket from ove
“That’s impossible,” I said. Isaac was with me last night. Wasn’t he?“It’s not impossible, this is what he does! He was bleeding internally; they kept him in surgery for hours while you ignored my calls! This is the monster, the scum you’ve decided to spread your fucking legs for!” he yelled.“Aww, what’s the matter, Bryan? Mad she wouldn’t spread them for you?” Blakely asked as she stood next to me.He stared at her in silence.“You’re no longer needed here. You can leave now,” I told him.“I’m not going anywhere. This happened to him because of you. I’ll be damned if I leave him alone with you now,” he said.“Then why even bother calling her? Pack your pride up and take it with you,” Blakely said with an irritated wave of her hand.“I called her, not you! Why are you even here?” he asked as he mo
Damon The door wasn’t locked and the house was dark and quiet. Blakely called me and said she needed me. It sounded like she was crying, but she hung up and wouldn’t answer when I called her back. I checked every room downstairs before heading upstairs. A soft sniffle and the glow of a light led me to the room at the far end of the hall. I spotted Blakely sitting against a wall. She aimed the gun at me when she saw me, but quickly lowered it when realization set in. I jumped as the gun clattered to the floor. Getting shot, no bueno. “Dame, I’m sorry. I didn’t know who else to call. He hit me and I got the gun,” she said as she fell into my arms. I held her at arm’s length to see her face. Her eyes were swollen and bruised. Bloo
Blakely Two months had passed since the news of Jacob’s death began circulating and the authorities still had no leads. They wouldn’t find any. I was initially a suspect, but Isaac managed to place me at the movies at the time of death. Witnesses even corroborated my alibi. Jacob’s decapitated and charred remains were discovered among the ash of our burnt down home. I didn’t know how, but I managed to be okay with this situation. I should have been losing my mind. I should have been a total wreck, but I wasn’t. I was almost perfectly fine. A distant voice told me I should report everything to the cops, but I ignored it. Instead I focused on Damon. There was something about him; something that pulled me in, no matter how hard I tried to resist. When nightmares woke me up in the middle of the night – almost perfect - it was him I called and him who wo
