Selena sat propped against her pillows, a tray of breakfast balanced on her lap, pushing scrambled eggs around with her fork like they personally offended her.

I sat in the chair beside her, close enough to help if she needed it, far enough to give her space. The doctor had just left after his morning rounds, and his words still echoed in my head.
