Maria's POV By the time I managed to go back to the pack, it was crazily hot and the sweat dripped down the back of my neck, running down my spine. Elvira was waiting for me with a huge smile on her face and a bottle of cold water in hand. She handed the bottle to me as soon as I got to her and I drank the water hungrily, the cold soothing my belly. "You look like you just walked five hundred miles, why didn't you tell Elijah to send someone to get you? He told me he was waiting for you to get ready so he sent one of his men to pick you up" she said but I was still yet to catch my breath. "It wasn't a long walk, I wanted to give myself a little bit of exercise," I said and she nodded her head, her hands placed on the small of my back as she helped me into the clinic. It was a busy day today as the ghost hunters had attacked again last night. Even though no one was killed during the attack, a lot of soldiers defending the east side had gotten hurt. They didn't look displeased at al
Maria's POV I woke up nearly drowning in my own sweat and my heart slamming against my chest painfully. The dream had been so real and vivid, still sending shivers down my spine as if I was still captured in a world that I had no control over. It was hard drawing in the air as I clutched my chest and staggered to the bench. It was almost morning, yet the darkness threatened to overtake my life. I blinked severally and struggled to take in deep breaths as I slowly calmed down. Something had attacked the baby in my womb and suddenly my hair turned white with the brightest light spewing out of my eyes and mouth. It was horrifying and I had never seen myself in the light before now. A cock crowed nearby and I knew that it was nearing dawn, even much more than I had thought. I spat out the bile that had risen to my mouth and took in one last deep breath before making my way back to the house. If I was right, Alpha Leo would be here this week and my woes might just be beginning all over
Alpha Leo's POV I watched with keen interest as Lady Willow entered the room. Her eyes were bright and happy, the only indicator of a plan going well for her. I hated to be put in this spot but I had no choice but to comply. A lot was obviously going on right under my nose and I had been oblivious to it, but now, I had to do whatever it took to get out of this mess. Luckily, all it took was a few more days of pretending that everything was just the way it used to be. "Everything is going to work out. My plan is already in motion and soon enough, you would see things playing out for itself, just the way I have said that it would. Why did it take you so long to bring her here?" She asked me, her eyes suddenly tightening to a scowl."I don't know. You don't really like strangers" I said and moved to the window. My mind was in a mess, especially now that I had something else to worry about. "You have something else on your mind, my boy, I can feel it. Tell me about it. Why did you real
Sophia's POV I froze when I heard those words. The woman we had seen inside just now didn't look like she had the strength to walk on her own. I was sure that my mother's potion too hadn't flopped, so I held Leo, moving behind him to shield myself from whatever was coming. He didn't cover me as I expected, instead, he turned to face me. "What are you talking about lady willow?" Leo asked her, his eyes narrowing at me even though he wasn't talking to me. "Sophia, are you the daughter of Penny? Penelope Angus?" she asked, and bile rose in my throat. That was my mother's name, her maiden name, one that no one had called her in almost twenty years. "Ye... yes?" I stammered, the words forcing itself to come out of my mouth. "I've met her before. She used to be one of the women in the governing council, I knew you looked familiar. We were all terrified of her because of how stern and strict she was. You are welcome to my abode" Lady Willow said, her face breaking into a smile. "Oh," L
Alpha Leo's POV The maid couldn't speak, I hated that we had to wait for longer before we knew what was going on. It was hard enough that I didn't know what had spooked her so badly to this point, now I had to wait for longer before I got the full picture. "You have to take it easy. The doctor said that once she wakes up tomorrow, she will be better and we can now know what it is. For now, I want you to keep up the pretense that it is me in that room" she said to me and I nodded my head slowly in agreement. "Alright, you go to bed early. I'll stay awake for a while longer. Is your wine bar still stocked?" I asked her as her lips slowly spread out in a smile, I knew that in her eyes, I was still a child. That would always be what she would see me as. "Yes. My tired eyes are threatening to close. You should eat too. I had the chef make you, your favourite" she said and ruffled my hair like she used to do when I was 12. "Alright. Goodnight lady willow" I said and kissed her gently o
Maria's POVMy heart pounded in my chest as I made my way back to my apartment. My protruding belly didn't help my movements as I stumbled back to my place, my heart pounding profusely in my chest. I stopped a few times to steady myself and my breathing, willing myself to do whatever I could to control my breath. Suddenly, I heard footsteps behind me and hastened my steps in fear, the steps quickened and I broke into a run. The person increased their pace, I turned to quickly catch a glimpse of whoever was following me and found myself reeling down a hill. I struggled to catch myself, all to no avail as the little slope quickened my fall and had me tumbling in the dust. A pair of hands broke my fall and steadied me, helping me to sit. "Are you okay?" I heard Alpha Elijah's unmistakable voice. I heaved a sigh of relief, worried that one of Alpha Leo's henchmen might have seen me, considering that he was supporting to come to the pack the following week. "Well, I just rolled on the
Sophia's POV"Mother, someone might know my true intentions," I said, my voice shaking with fear. The reaction had been immediate, I knew it was the walls of spells that I had built around me that sent her into shock. If Leo should discover who I truly am, I knew that he would not take it lightly with me. "You must be wise. Now is not the time to give him space. We mustn't meet in the daytime like this anymore. I understand the urgency for us meeting like this but you have to be wise" she said and I could also note the fear in her voice. "Don't worry Mother, I made sure no one knew why I came here or that I was here. I told him that I needed to pick up a few things, and he wouldn't be coming here now. You can stay for a while longer" I said to her as her gaze softened. "I won't mind but that would be too big a risk for any of us to take," she said and made to leave but I quickly held her back. "What would you rather have me do now Mother? If I go back there tomorrow, I will defini
Alpha Leo's POVI was shocked to see such a reaction. I had not been expecting it, considering the puzzled look on Sophia's face. I could have sworn that she paled immediately, her color turning white. "Do you know each other?" I asked Lady Willow but she didn't say anything, instead, she slowly backed away into her house, pulling me behind her. I moved away from her and held her in place as she began to convulse in my arms. "Guards!" I yelled as her guards immediately found their way to me. Within minutes, we were in her room and the doctor had practically raced down here from the barn behind the house to attend to her. "Is she going to be okay?" I asked, even though my mind was filled with thoughts of all that could have warranted such a response. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, so I wanted to make sure that she was fine before moving to make my inquiries. "She will be. She is just in shock. You know, she is not as young as she used to be even though she can take on any fo
Alpha Leo's POV Things between Sophia and I have been shaky for the past few days. The dream had refused to leave my mind and it was the only thing I thought about all day. She had noticed it and tried to reach out to me a few times but the only thing I could do was to shut her out. I decided to go and see one of my father's oldest friends, Lady Willow. She was a good witch and a good woman. We were lucky to have her around as kids as she was a bright light in our dark lives. "Where are you going to?" Sophia barked at me. "I'm going out. I have to see someone" I said as calmly as I could. I was beginning to get too bothered about the disappearance of Maria. I could have sworn that I did not feel this way before. "Where are you going to?" She asked me, studying me carefully. "I just said I'm going out, I have someone I need to see" I snapped at her, angry that she was asking me so many questions. "You said that already and I asked again. Who are you going to see?" She asked and I
